Stylish Comfortable Sandals Women Over 50 Will Love
It’s time for my annual updated and all new post on stylish comfortable sandals. I try to do this post every year. Fortunately for those of us over 50 and beyond comfortable sandals are in. It takes a bit of research but there are a lot of options available now. Many more than there were a few years ago when I first penned a post like this. Personally, I want my sandals to be durable, supportive, and as stylish as possible. Who says comfort can’t come with style? Let’s take a look at Stylish Comfortable Sandals Women Over 50 Will Love.
Many of us suffer from foot pain caused by plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, bunions, and a host of other problems. The good news is there are many brands available now that speak to these issues.
Stylish Comfortable Sandals Women Over 50 Will Love
I admit it, I want it all. I want my sandals to be supportive, stylish, sturdy, and comfortable so that they can be worn all day.

Cushion is Key
Sadly our natural padding and cushioning decrease with age. Our joints and knees can be painful, or we suffer from heel pain. A cushioned footbed with shock absorption is a must. Many sandals now offer a cushioned insole in the form of latex footbeds, memory foam or cork.
Non Slip Soles
There is nothing worse than walking shoes with a slippery sole. A durable rubber outsole will offer good stability and traction.
Arch Support
Vionic and Naot are brands that are your friends when it comes to arch support. Many of their sandals have too much arch support for me, but they are definitely brands to look to if you have high arches.
Strap Happy
If you need stability, the right straps can make all the difference. Look for styles with adjustable straps that allow you to customize the fit to your foot. Plus, straps can add a fun stylish element to your sandals. Velcro straps work well for sportier looks.
Versatile & Fashion Forward
The best sandals are the ones you can wear everyday with practically anything in your wardrobe.
Here are the sandals I own that keep my feet pain free. The Eric Javits sandals were gifted to me, but I love the molded foot bed and the comfortable wide width that accommodates my bunion. I purchased the Seychelles Note to Self this year. I wanted a dark brown option.I have ordered the cross fit flop sandal to replace my ratty looking Tutsis. It is not as heavily padded but I wore them walking miles in Savannah. The Bueno Dawn is a little more lightweight with elastic ankle straps. The Korkease Tutsi is the most comfortable pair of sandals that I own. The Eileen Fisher Bond goes well with almost everything in my closet. The Reef Flip flop is a great lightweight option for packing with a cushy footbed. The Madewell Natasha is new to me this year and I am loving them. The Olukai Ho Opio has been a favorite for years. It’s a classic thong style that has a sleeker look than many of the others. They too have a contoured footbed.

This Tutsi sandal by Korkease is absolutely the most comfortable sandal I own, aside from my flip-flops. They even have a small platform. There is something about the Korkease sole. It is lightweight and molds to your foot.

The Olukai Ho Opio in leather has been a favorite for years, but the leather version is now hard to find.Mine are getting a little ragged. I have ordered the Olukai Tiare and the Fitflop Gracie as replacements. Let me know if you own either.
For a beach sandal the Reef Cushion Court is hard to beat. They are light and can easily be tossed in your suitcase for travel.

I wear these Eileen Fisher Bond Crossover Sandals more than any I own other than the Korkease Tutsi. They are comfortable and go with everything.

I just bought two pairs (gold, and blue) of EuroSoft Genalyn sandals. They have a Birkenstock look to them, I think, but they are a thousand times more comfortable. I tried to break my Birkenstocks in for over a year, and I give up. They’re just too stiff for me.
Hi Annie
I have not found Birkenstocks to be comfortable either. I have very little padding and the skin is thin on my right heel due to my burns. My daughter loves them, but they are not for me. I will check your recommendation out!
me thinks new sandals might be in order after reading this post. i will not tell the hubs i got the idea here. 😉
Hi Nancy
I will never tell!!
Hi Cindy,
On your great recommendation, I just ordered my first pair of Korkese Tutsi’s! I’ve been looking for a new sandal to wear on an upcoming trip to The Netherlands. Have you tried Vessi or Taos sneakers? I hear good things but would trust your review.
Thank you for all of the great recommendations!
I have taken Taos sneakers and one of their sandals to Europe and found them super comfortable and easy to walk in.
Hi Tracie
Yes the Taos sneakers are comfy! I don’t have a pair right now, but I have in the past.
Thank you so much, Tracie! I think I’ll give Taos sneakers a try!
Thank you so much, Tracie! I’ll try them, too!
Hi Nancy
I have not tried Vessi. I will check them out. The Taos are comfy, and you will love the Tutsi. The most comfortable sandal I own.
I have worn Taos sneakers on two week travel trips and they are super comfortable all day long. Like Cindy, I have a bunion problem. I want to order the Tutsi’s but since I wear a 5.5 I’m leery of ordering the 6 (their smallest size) Comments say they run wide. Any others tried these that could help?
Great post, Cindy!!!
Cute and comfortable shoes are my Holy Grail. I purchased 2 pair of Fit Flops gladiators after your recommendation earlier this spring and the Eric Javits last year. I’m heading in for the Reef flip flops and the Madewells. next.
I love your style, and while my body type can’t rock everything in the same way, your inspiring blog has absolutely helped me to enhance my looks, especially the accessories.
First email I open on most days!
Hi Elaine
I refuse to wear uncomfortable shoes anymore. There are too many stylish comfortable options!
Cindy thank you so much for your recent posts! We leave tomorrow on a cruise and it seems as though everything has changed in the last year! Your tips have been very helpful in preparing for this trip!
Hi Kathy
Enjoy your trip! Tell us about it when you return!!
I own an embarrassing number of FitFlops. Different styles but particularly love Lulu and FMode. I wear them 90% of the time and get a little irritated when I need to wear dressier shoes. 😏
Hi Deborah
I have the Fmode on my list!
I love ABEO sandals. Most are adjustable to narrow feet and they are very supportive.
Hi Susan
I must try the ABEO. Thanks for the tip!!
I bought my first pair of Kork Ease last year and they still look great. Just love them. Soooo comfortable and easy to walk in. The leather is soft but sturdy. I have the Myrna style. I need a strap around the back of my foot as I can’t walk well in slides. Comfort is #1!
Hi Ann
I cannot believe how comfy korkease are. I have three pairs and love them all. The tutsi are especially comfy. Have you tried the tutsi slide? I wonder if it is wide enough to cover a bunion?
Mine are fairly wide….might work!
okay thanks Elaine!!
Great choices, Cindy. My decision making for stylish summer sandals is suddenly taking comfort into account. Ha! Imagine that. I think I’m going to take the plunge with those Eileen Fishers! xo
Hi Juliet
Welcome to “old age” ha ha…You and Kim still look like 30 year olds! I love the eileen fisher slides. I wear them all the time.
Great post! I know they are costly, but Finn Comfort Sausalito sandals saved my life with bunions, neuromas, and foot cramps, pre-surgery,, post-surgery and now are my best summer shoe. Come in several colors and leathers, moldable cork insole with fantastic arch and metatarsal support. Adjustable front and back. Will also check out many you described.
Hi EP
I think those of us with foot issues do not mind spending the $$$. I have another friend who swears by them. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Cindy,
What an excellent information you shared . Like you and several readers many of us have some sort of issue we have to deal with our feet. The only shoe ( sneaker) my feet can tolerate is the Hoka Bondi 7 extra wide. I have no padding left on balls or heels of my feet. My feet are a mess.
I was wondering what style of FitFlop did Steve’s doctor recommend to him? I’m familiar with them, they have many styles as you know.
Thank you.
Hi Katherine
I just ordered the Hoka for Steve. He is finally out of the boot. Steve’s doctor actually recommended the Hoka. There is a physical therapist on youtube who had an andle replacement. He recommended the surfer. He is just wearing them around the house so far as he just got the boot removed on Wednesday!
Cindy, I knew you’d have so many great choices! I love those Eric Javits! They re so cool and chic- and look comfy too. I also have the Olukai in the rubber footbed and love them. The Tory Burch with the molded foot is also great.
I also like the look of the tan fit flop .. classic !
If you haven’t gotten Birks yet, I recommend you try some. I like the adjustable straps..so that you can really get your foot comfortable.. You would love the braided leather ones they have now and also the linen looking versions!
Now I am off to check out the Javits!
This was fun! Now if we could just get more sun.
xo
Hi Kim
Really enjoyed your chic choices! I love the Eric Javits and they are on sale. I will check out the birks you suggested. I didn’t see the braided version. I could never wear linen I would get it too dirty I am afraid!!
Good morning, Cindy. Thanks for this! I was going to request the topic. The perfect cute and comfortable shoe is my Holy Grail. It’s wonderful that certain comfort looks are now considered fashionable.
I ordered the Eric Javits after seeing them in one of your posts.
Two other recommendation are Kork-Ease, (remember them from the 70s!?!) and Bared. Pricy but ticks all the boxes.
Thanks again for the wonderful fashion and lifestyle inspiration.
Hi Elaine
I am thrilled that comfy shoes are now “fashionable”. I am wearing the korkease tutsi in one of the pics…love them! I have two other pairs and am tempted to order the slides. Need to go try them on locally.
Thank you for your extensive research on so many topics, Cindy. I always look forward to your posts and find your personal style inspiring. I have a slightly narrow and long foot so sandals are a problem. I have had good luck this spring because I joined a Facebook group called Travel Fashion Girls and, with almost 100,000 members, it is crowdsourcing for any travel issue, with shoes, luggage, and packing being popular topics. https://www.facebook.com/groups/travelfashiongirls
Whoops I commented to you under Sarah. I love the travel fashion girl blog. I actually link to her quite often. She does a great job.
Buying stylish and comfortable sandals (or, really, any shoes) when you have narrow feet is a frustrating endeavor. I have a closet full of medium width shoes that are destined for wear only when I know I won’t be walking much. If you’re in the shoe industry, there’s a market for narrow shoes! I know, because every time I find a pair online, they’re sold out.
I’ll try some of the suggestions from your narrow-footed readers.
I hear you Sarah. I have the same problem. My favourite hiking boots were by Timberland. The style I bought three years in a row were narrow and hugged my foot beautifully. Then I went to buy another pair and was told they no longer carry them. I wrote the company and was told the amount of people with narrow feet was too small to be profitable. Most ladies have medium to wide feet. We are in the minority. So, the hunt continues.
Hi Joanna
Isn’t it irritating that they change the styles constantly…especially hiking boots!!
Hi Sarah
I understand your frustration as I have the opposite problem. My mom had narrow feet and there were many more options years ago. I love the travelfashiongirl. I link to her quite often!
Thanks for the great article on sandals. I have plantar fasciitis and have found Taos sneakers and sandals to be very comfortable. Always looking for other options!
Hi Lauren
I wish my local store handled Taos. I tried one pair that was too narrow for me. Would love to give them another try.
Hi Cindy!
Boy, did you get ahead of the linen craze! I have been buying it in the 3+ years since I’ve been following you, so I have quite a bit, myself!
I, along with quite a few others, obviously, love your style!
Hi Kathy
I adore linen and embrace the wrinkles!
For women who like a firm feel underfoot, I recommend my favorite sandals, the Bed Stu Soto. Link here:
https://www.zappos.com/p/bed-stu-soto-tan-rustic/product/8511184/color/10384
These sandals either fit you or they don’t — there’s no points of adjustability. If they DO fit, I find them supremely comfortable. And being all leather, they will mold to your feet and become even better over time.
For your narrow-foot readers — I love the Naot Norah! The entire Elegant Flats line from Naot is for narrow-medium width feet, and IMO, the Norah is the best.
Hi Bette
Thanks so much for sharing! Since I have the opposite problem, I cannot showcase any narrow shoes!
Currently wearing a pair of Fitflops myself. I love them, they meet the support my feet seem to need now.
Took delivery today of a new pair of Dune sandals in the hope they’d be comfortable, admittedly they were a soft leather but they are being returned as I need more underfoot support.
It appears feet become more finicky with age.
Hi M
Fitflops are going to be my new go to. My husband has just had his ankle fused and I have ordered a pair for him that were recommended for that surgery as well.
I love all this info on sandals Cindy but wish you could distinguish which sandals would be for a narrow foot. I have neuropathy in my feet and almost nothing helps the pain but I keep buying hoping to find the “perfect” pair. I hope if any of your followers read this they might recommend some comfort narrower sandals.
Thanks so much for the work you do on your blog!
Hi Carol
I have read that Vionic tend to run narrowly. If you read the articles I have linked to you might find them helpful. I personally have the opposite problem because of my bunion. I will do a little investigating and let you know.
Hi Carol, I have similar issues as you do. I have found some cuter sandals by Munroe that run in slim and narrow sizes. They are very comfy! Also, Naot, take a look at this brand and they run narrow in some styles. I have also had luck with Mephisto for a more supportive thong type sandle. Good luck! I understand the frustration!
I’ve sworn by vionic flip flops as my casual go to for a decade now but just bought my (two) first pairs of Reefs. stay tuned and I’ll let you know once we get back from the galapagos with them. going to check out the ones you linked above bc a girl cant have enough comfy sandals in my humble opinion. 🙂
Hi Nancy
I have a pair of reefs as well that I just love, perhaps even more than the Olukai Ho Opio. They aren’t leather and are more casual looking but they are amazing. I understand what you mean.
Cindy:
Excellent Picks of Sandals, I am so happy ya included Olukai, Yay now I will place my order.
I still like the Fisherman Style Sandal, love all
Oh and yes the “ Ugly Traveler Sandal” one of many names they call them.(Birkenstock).
Thank you, for all the research, time
🩴🩴
Hi Karen
I like the Fisherman Sandal as well, but I am never sure if I can personally wear them due to my bunion. My daughter loves the “ugly travelers sandal” so I am trying to embrace them! I do think the narrower strap version is more attractive. They sure are popular right now!
Cindy:
Just got my Birks The Boston ones from Nordstrom, as Birkenstock direct were on back order..and they did not have an date as to when restocked.
Omg Love Nordstrom, order all my shoes from them usually.
(Miss the Flagship store in Big D.) Oh and Flip Flops omg Love Love them, but major upgraded them, also hounds loved them too.
Thank you
❤️❤️🩴🩴❤️❤️
Cindy – first time responding to a blogger – read you everyday with that first “cuppa” coffee – just wondering after reading this, have you ever tried Pikolinos – I wore their “Cantabrias” for 3 weeks in Europe – cobblestone streets, hills, etc. and never had a problem – I bought my first pair of Piks years ago in your lovely state – love your blog – do some fashion for those over 70…thanks, Linda
Hi Linda
Welcome and thank your for joining the comments! I have tried Pikolinos sneakers, but they were a little narrow for me, so I have failed to try them again. Do you find they run narrow? Carol is looking for a pair suited for a narrow foot.
Great choices, Cindy. I like them to have a back strap and sturdy soles for travel on cobblestones…I see a few here!
Hi Mary Ann
Good point about traveling, and needing a back strap! When we went to Italy several years ago (early Spring the year they had snow). I packed a pair of haviana flip flops for the shower etc. Lo and behold the weather changed and I ended up wearing the flip flops for many days!
Flip flops are a summer standard for me. The style of sandals that have a strap across the foot but no way to stop the foot from slipping forward don’t usually work for me. I need the kind where your first toe is on one side of the strap and the other four toes on the other.
Some of your choices look great. I’ll be shopping for sandals later today. Thank you.
xo,
Karen
My favorite is Island Slipper. It’s made in Hawaii and I can walk miles in them.
Hi TE
I am going to look for the Island Slipper. Thanks for sharing.
flip flops are extremely unhealthy but love all the others for a good walk
Hi Rena
Do you think the supportive flip flops are still unhealthy? I find I am most comfortable in a shoe without a back that has support, with all my feet issues!!
Cindy, All these are so good! I think the black Reefs are a classic that always look chic and I think I need a pair. Also the Gentle Souls are so pretty and that to me is the perfect shoe for travel, or being on your feet all day. I love that brand and have them in the strappy red version. This was just in time for refreshing our summer sandals. Always love your style and picks! Hope Hawaii was fun. xo
Hi Kim
Aren’t those black reefs great? I agree the gentle souls are the absolute best when it comes to comfort.
Omg I use to be the Flip flop queen, low to high end. Still love them to this day, So love the sandals, Birdies, ………….
Thank you
This is Awesome, sure helps when searching for them
Hi Karen
I love a comfortable flip flop too! There are many more choices that offer support now.
I love the Yellow Box sandals… comfortable, feminine and priced economically! And available on Amazon as well as their website. Also Daniel Pleiner… very comfortable. Please remember, the more of your foot that shows, the thinner your legs look!
Hi Bev
I like yellow box too. And I love their prices! I have to remember that tip!!
I have never, ever liked the Birkenstocks on me. They always looked so “clunky” and I have tried to wear them several times. However, I stumbled on a boutique that carried them, specifically in narrow. My shoe size is a true 7 and not at all narrow and I do have bunions. I tried on the new version in a saddle color with the big gold buckle, not expecting much, and I LOVED them, I think the look of the normal width just threw everything off for me, particularly at the toe. The strap across the toes was plenty roomy enough and didn’t rub my bunions at all. They just looked really nice on my foot and not at all “clunky”. The owner said that she sold almost exclusively narrow Birkenstocks and has a big following. Who knew that the narrow would make such a difference! Needless to say, I will be purchasing the black with the silver buckle! You might try these and I hope as pleasantly surprised as I was.
I bought a pair of Birkenstocks for this warm weather season, and I was also surprised by how comfortable they are! I usually have to buy a wide shoe because I broke a toe years ago, but in the Birks I just bought my regular size. No rubbing, just comfort.
Hi Nancy
Great to know. I wondered about that.
Hi Cassandra
You are encouraging me to give them a try!
You will be pleased to know there is a whole store dedicated to these kind of sandals in SLO. I’ll give you the tour when you’re ready!
Hi Wren
Yippee!! Can’t wait!!
Funny to come across a comment from me but I see it’s from last year! I like the Fitflops you show. There is a store in Paso that you have mentioned. Do they carry any of your choices? I’ve been a flip flop-wearing surfer girl my whole life! Need to class up my act from Havianas to something nicer.
Hi Wren
I rewrite this post every year, because it is always a favorite. In the blogging world, if the post is a successful one, we rewrite it rather than starting over. Google likes it better ha ha!!
Cindy! This post is perfect timing! You always do your research so I now know what sandals to buy! a
xx
Hi Annie
So glad to hear that!
I have several pairs of Vionic’s and find them vey comfortable with a good arch support.
Hi Sandy
I have not tried them and I think I need to. I hear so many good things about them.
I love Clark’s flip flops, so cushy. I bought my first pair right before we were going to Hawaii, didn’t really had the time to break them in or so I thought. Put them on the first day, walked myself silly. They were so comfortable that I never wore any of the shoes I packed. I love the color selection as well.
Hi Melanie
Will check out Clarkes! Thanks for sharing!
