WINE TASTING ADVENTURES WHERE TO GO AND WHAT TO WEAR

Happy Farthers Day to all the wonderful Fathers out there. We are going on a picnic (prepared by my son and daughter in law to Denner Winery. I will chat about that next weekend. Yesterday we meandered down to Santa Ynez. Let’s chat about Wine Tasting Adventures Where to Go and What to Wear.

OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

This week I thought it would be fun to do a cheap chic/ luxe chic version of the outfit of the week. The luxe version features the beautiful Somerset dress from Anthropologie, gorgeous Janessa Leone hat and hat bag (I will be featuring them soon), Sam Edelman sandals, amazon earrings, and Peepers sunnies.

SHOP THE POST

Quince makes a very similar dress to the above Somerset, also in cotton for much less. I accessorized the dress with a bag and sandals from Target, sunnies from Peepers, and the same earrings from Amazon.

WEIGHT WATCHERS ITALIAN TUNA SALAD

I am trying to get back on the weight watchers bandwagon. Whenever I pick up a few pounds (well this has been going on since covid), I can usually get back on track with Weight Watchers. This tuna salad is a great healthy lunch alternative that you can make from pantry ingredients. I usually add a few snips of fresh thyme or basil . I am sure dill or sage would be fine as well whatever you have on hand.

MATTEIS TAVERN AT AUBERGE LOS OLIVOS

Steve and I stopped to pick up our wine at Bien Nacido’s new tasting room in the Santa Maria Valley (if you follow me on Instagram you saw it in my stories) and then travelled over to Los Olivos for lunch. We had been planning to check out the new Auberge at Mattei’s Tavern so we made a reservation for lunch and explored the property a bit. “Established in 1886 by Felix Mattei and his wife, Lucy, Mattei’s Tavern was initially called the Central Hotel. The railroad terminal was directly across, so passengers only had to walk a short distance to find food and shelter while waiting for the morning stagecoach ride to Santa Barbara. After the Los Olivos Hotel burned down, Felix changed his hotel name to Hotel Los Olivos and eventually settled with Mattei’s Tavern.” We have followed it’s evolution over the years from a steak house to a world class Auberge Resort. You can read more about it’s history here. and here

The lunch was good and the setting superb. I love that they conserved the original architecture and didn’t try to make it something it wasn’t meant to be.

Love both looks. I have several black sundresses which I accessorize with turquoise earrings and black sandals but I am going to switch it up with the natural straw/raffia shoes and bag as you have suggested.
I make a tuna salad almost weekly so I am excited to try this new to me recipe. My weight doesn’t fluctuate much-I stay at a chubby 5’5” 150 pounds but I must have indulged too much these past few months because there were 6 extra pounds suddenly on the scale! Time to put the break on dessert after every meal. Dang!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mary Ellen

I love black with turquoise as well. I had kept my weight pretty stable (I have struggled since a child) until Covid. I need to drop 5 or 6 lbs and get in shape!

What a fun post. I have the black anthro basic one…not with the cutout….it’s so comfortable. It’s so great Quince has one for less. Can’t wait to try the tuna recipe!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mary Ann

Your sister sure looks darling in the white version. I tried the white on and it wasn’t flattering on me.I ordered the Quince one!

    Hi Cindy,
I’m so excited to be traveling in July through your area. I’ll be with family, but I hope to stop by a couple of restaurants and wine tasting stops during our visit. I love the dress, both versions. I’ll be checking them out.

      Hi Karen

Wish you could come by for a glass of wine…let me know if you have any time!

Cindy, you and I are wine country lovers at heart. I”m born and raised in San Francisco with a father who taught me about wine early in life. We often visited the numerous wine regions and believe I learned to taste and appreciate around 5 or 6 years old. My appreciation has only grown . In the past 15 or so years, your Paso area has become a top region for ready to drink cabs and outstanding zins which rival the best of the Napa Valley vintages. Before climate change, the region produced outstanding tropical chards and upcoming zins. Now it’s game on for many of the varitiI’m envious you live there now. I’m retired in Jupiter Florida but still explore the California emerging wine appellations. Moved here for the amazing snorkeling, warm waters and easy on the skin sub-tropical year round weather.

I’m going to order the Anthro dress in light blue. Going to San Jose Del Cabo in November and this dress appears to suit the ambiance and climate while giving off casual glam beach vibes. I am only 5’5 and 145lbs and hope in a medium the bust won’t be too tight in the bust as some have commented this dress runs tight in this region. I am unfortunately a 34 H bra size but othterwise an anthro size 6-8 elsewhere. (Bodyand height similar to yours but larger bust). Time will tell as online ordering is my only option as our local Anthro store does not carry this dress. Is a departure from my normal style but without diversity and experimental adventures outside out comfort zones, we often become stuck, yes?

Hope you truly enjoyed your celebratory weekend with your DH.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Katelyn

It sounds like you love wine as much as we do. This area in recent years is best known for it’s Rhone Varietals. There are still some Zins but they most often use them for blending. We are not big Zin lovers but there are some good ones (Turley for one) that are quite good. There are many East side wineries that are doing cabs as well (in our area). I hope the dress works out for you. I think it will. I tried it on in white in the store. I will post that in my stories. Thanks so much for commenting and I hope you travel this way at some time!

That tuna and chickpea salad looks scrumptious! Will be trying it this week. Thanks for sharing the wonderful recipes!

I have used the Elta MD UV clear sunscreen for years. I love it and wear it EVERY day. It goes on every morning right after my skin care. I also love the Peepers reading glasses and have 3 pair of them. I love that they are not too expensive but have high quality optically ground lenses. I am very sensitive to any kind of distortion in lenses. I am not a wine drinker, but I enjoy reading about your many travels.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Pam

I am a huge fan of the Elta MD sunscreen as well. I too wear it every day. I will be doing a peepers post on IG this week! Love them!

I had been looking at that dress from Quince for some time and finally ordered it. Based on the reviews, I felt I needed a Medium, but it was sold out, so I tried a Small in the red (which is actually a bright orange). I don’t wear black, but in addition to the orange they have recently added navy and light blue. Unfortunately, I was right about needing a Medium (lol), but the style and color were outside my comfort zone, so I returned it. That said, it is a beautifully made dress, especially for the price. Love Quince for the quality, reasonable prices, and generous return policy.

Hi Cindy, my husband and I drove up the road 45 minutes last month to spend the weekend in Paso for wine tasting. We are repeating the adventure this coming weekend to San Miguel. Be sure to visit Four Sisters Winery. The drive is lovely, the atmosphere delightful and the wine is great! Nancy

Cindy—Love to go wine tasting. We have a large number of wineries in Michigan that produce some great wines.
Is there a recipe for the tuna salad? Nothing came up when I tapped on the link. Thanks . . .
