Rough Luxe Survey Results

First of all a big shout out to all of you for filling out the survey, leaving comments, and sharing your ideas for future posts.  You guys are the best! I can’t tell you how helpful it is for me in planning the coming year.  I suspected that many of my new subscribers and readers came here for more fashion and beauty and I was right, but the results also indicate that you want to continue to read design related posts as well. Without further adieu let’s dig into the Rough Luxe Survey Results.  I think you will find them interesting and fun.

The First Question was What Would you Like to Read More About in 2020

#1-Over 50 Fashion

I came into the fashion posting kicking and screaming but I am getting better about photographing myself. Your favorite fashion post this year was, How to Rock an Over 50 Travel Wardrobe Part 3.

#2-Ageless Style

Elizabeth and I really enjoy this series, so I am so glad that you do too.  We work hard to try to find interesting stylish women to interview.  We have some great ones in the coming year.  Your favorite Ageless Style post this year was that of the darling sisters Mona and Talena of Providence Ltd. Design.

#7 Project Design and Featured Interior Designers

Eight tips for Growing Beautiful Container Gardens

Project Design has morphed into not only design but group posts  about cooking, fashion etc.,  which means it overlaps with everything, so this one is kind of difficult to gage.

You weren’t particularly interested in DIY, gray hair care which is interesting, because according to the almighty google my gray hair posts are tops.

You might be interested to know where most of your fellow readers (or respondents) hail from. California, Texas, Georgia and Minnesota are in the lead in that order.

87% of you are 60 or older. 11% are 50-59.  I guess we have morphed into an “old lady’s blog”.  I say that affectionately!

Pinterest and Instagram are where you seek inspiration.

Your blog interests were super varied. Many added they read my friend’s blogs so I guess we know who they are!!

You overwhelmingly requested that I send out an email every time I have a new blog post.

I am so glad for this input because I never know if your inbox gets too jammed up!

There are too many suggestions for future posts to mention, but there are some great ideas I intend to follow up on.  One comment of note is that most of you have what you want in your homes now.  You have a mixture of antiques, treasures from our travels, and family heirlooms that you want to hang on to.  You enjoy learning creative ways to freshen your look but aren’t buying any major pieces at this age.  My takeaway from your comments is this. You are a vibrant, fulfilled, curious group of women that want to look and feel the best you possibly can.  That is why I love you guys so much.  You make blogging fun for me. I cannot thank you enough for all of your support.  You are simply the best.

If you didn’t have time to take the survey but would like to put your two bits in, please do in the comments below.  We all benefit from sharing.

You might enjoy reading last years results here What I am working on right now and survey results

Many of you have asked about how and where to buy things from past posts.  I am updating my shop pages this week to reflect all of my latest finds.  I am including a cheap chic decor finds, a shop my home page, and my favorite design books along with the two pages I already have.  Just click on the shop link at the top of the page.

Dear Cindy, Absolutely love your blog, especially outfits and home design. I,m sitting here in rather damp England and love the feeling of sharing with all your readers from Texas Georgia etc all with similar ideas and exciting plans for the future. What an exciting world we live in! I am 80 with 18 grandchildren and love dressing well and wearing lovely make up. Thank you andplease continue your good work. Best wishes Judy

Hi, I love the mix of topics you cover. Thanks to you, Mary Ann and Kim, I’m getting compliments on my ‘style’ at work from both people my age and the twenty-somethings. Thank you all!
I would have to respectfully disagree on the ‘old lady’s blog’ designation! My adorable twenty-something hair stylist just bought a new home. I suggested she check out your blog since she has a very collected look sensibility. When I walked into my last appointment, she said, ‘You look soooooo Cindy Hattersley!’ and we had a nice chat about how much we both learn from and enjoy your posts.
    Keep doing what you’re doing!

      Hi Didi

You know I always use the “old lady” term in jest. According to Google (which I don’t believe) I have mostly young men and woman who are sports and tech enthusiasts that read my blog. No go figure that one! Thank you so much for your support. We have a collected style (fashion) coming up next week which I think is going to be really fun! Kim, Mary Ann, Annie and a great group will be joining us!

Honestly, I have often thought that blogs like yours and the Contessa’s are a privilege to read and so excellent that readers should have to subscribe : ) Although I don’t often comment, I am unfailingly happy to see your posts in my inbox. It’s like going on a mini vacation/spa day/inspirational retreat… beauty that is captured, like lightening bugs in a jar. Your photographs and writing are the perfect match. I love everything and would be hard pressed to choose a favorite, but if I had to, it is your interior design and exterior garden/landscape posts that I swoon over. My only suggestion is this–do not change a thing. The unpredictable swirl of eclectic and aesthetic is the magic!

PS I work at a private club and Tom Scheerer is both the decorator-in-chief and a relative of a member… love his style : )

Cindy, I am sorry I missed the survey, but I agree with the results! I also love your fashion posts and your lists for travel. Of course Ageless Style is a favorite. Always you have the best taste here. One thing I’d love to see is more of your yard because it looks gorgeous. Everything you do interests me and you do it with style! xo

  5. Lee Lindsay says

    Cindy,
Please continue the posts on fashion for women over 50. I am always on the lookout for more casual, updated looks and I bargain hunt for the thrill of the find! And skin care! It seems I am in need of an effective, new moisturizer that does as well as the pricier jars right now! I look forward to all of your posts.

I love seeing your home and your entertaining and food ideas. I’m 57 and enjoy your beautiful garden posts too. Personal family posts are fun too. You seem very grateful for your blogging friends, it’s nice to be appreciated! Keep up the enjoyable blog!

I love your blog, Cindy. My favorite post ever was about your garden. I have made a couple of your recipes, and purchased some linen garments from a place to which you introduced us. By the way, it is “Without further ado,” not “Without further adieu.” Adieu means “goodbye” in French.

Please keep up the good work!

  8. Nancy says

    Cindy,
Another “old lady” from California here! central coast too. I enjoy your blog, your posts are a very nice mix of decorating, fashion, make up.

I love the blog. I eagerly wait for the ageless fashion person you and the Vintage Contessa interview. Each one is always unique but oh so sassy and stylish. I also enjoyed learning our age demographics. I’m finding that being a member of this kick ass old ladies age group is fun, challenging, and rewarding. Love love love your blog. One of my favorites posts was the different ways you wore the same dress….dynamite. My favorite decorating hints come from tours of your warm, eclectic, and classy home.

    Cindy,
I laughed out loud at your comment ‘I GUESS WE HAVE MORPHED INTO AN “OLD LADY’S BLOG”. As long as you don’t begin to advertise prescription drugs for the elderly! Hahaha. I think we’re (old ladies) a vibrant and interested group and I’m sure we don’t have the same interests as our mothers. 🙂
Keep up the interesting and fun to read posts. I’m a huge fan.
    xo,
    Karen

I ENJOY reading your blog so much!!!
I do have one request…maybe it’s just me, but, is there any way you can darken the color of the font? The color appears gray and it is often difficult to read.
Thanks for all the info you give us and the wonderful pics!!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Judy
I will contact my web design person and see what she can do. I want you to be able to see it!

  12. Lynn Reed says

Cindy, I know we are supposed to be commenting on the survey…..Your blog is hands down my favorite…but I have to ask: The black and white vase and red roses at the beginning of this blog post took my breath away. Any idea where I can purchase the vase?

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Lynn
That is old but guess what I found them on ebay. I am going to email you with the link! Enjoy!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Lee

Thanks for correcting me. Could I send each post to you first and have you approve? Just kidding, but I am not a writer, I honestly don’t know how I fell into this gig. I just kind of blab. Thank goodness for you readers that can. Please keep me on my toes!

  13. Leatha Vernon says

I’m another follower from Georgia and love all of your posts. The survey results echoed my interests (though I didn’t take part). However, as I’m in the process of letting my hair go grey would also love to see more on that subject!
    Thanks!
    Leatha

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Leatha

As I mentioned to Barbara, I need to do an update on my favorite gray hair products. There are so many more out there now. I love you Georgia ladies!!

  14. Barbara says

Cindy–I appreciate the way you listen and care what your followers think and want to see. Your posts are varied but always chic and fun, and isn’t that what we all want? Now about the gray hair…I’m 66 with very little gray, yet I still “like” seeing beautiful women like you who rock the look.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Barbara

I feel a gray hair post coming on! I really need to do an updated post, and since you pulled my arm… Thank you so much for the kind comment, I really appreciate it.

  15. Lou Ann says

Good Morning from beautiful Blue Ridge Georgia ! The mountains are breathtaking this morning , and I am happy to be reading your wonderful blog. I am enjoying retirement here and embracing my role as “La La” . I was pouring over the results of the survey , and as I was in Florida with family for the holidays, unable to respond ( 4 yr olds are BUSY😁). It is interesting to me , that the responses were honestly just as I expected. Although we are scattered completely across the country , our interests are very similar . It’s nice to be connected to so many amazing ladies. I always enjoy every post. However, you don’t mention entertaining on a regular basis. Here in the South, we LOVE to entertain! Whether it’s cocktails outdoors, lunches on the porch, or our annual gathering…. BISCUITS and BOURBON. We always enjoy having friends here, and a porch party is the ideal setting. Just curious about how you entertain ? Would love to hear some different ideas. Thanks for a look into how we all are embracing this wonderful part of our lives. I think we’ve never been better! I look forward to your new, inspiring posts for 2020. Come to the South for a visit! Would love to have ya’ll!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hello Lou Ann!

First I am dying to know if your grandchild called you La La or did you choose it? Summer still doesn’t know what in the heck to call us. I used to do a lot of entertaining posts, you have prodded me to get back to that. You Southerners do know how to entertain in style! Thanks so much for commenting and your support. It means the world to me!

  16. Marsha says

I love your design posts the most.
The way you see things is very important to me.
I know how to dress as it was my job to outfit pretty ladies for decades. And, here in Texas, we have our own style. AKA Lynn Wyatt.

    Sending love my friend.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Marsha

That is so sweet. You so inspire me with your style posts. You HAVE IT!! And you Texas ladies have style! I so agree. I feel very fortunate to have so many Texans that read my blog. I think that might have something to do with you and Joni!!

  17. Patricia Huber says

I like it all. Your blog inspires me to improve what I have and enjoy it. I love how you winnow it down to each beautiful post, quality over quantity–I know that takes a lot of effort and time as the writer! You are consistent in your style and trustworthy in your recommendations. Thanks Cindy!

    • Cindy Hattersley says
