House and Garden Spanish 20’s Villa
Preserving the integrity of a traditional Spanish villa while incorporating modern furnishings requires a delicate balance between honoring its architectural heritage and embracing a modern aesthetic. Martha Mulholland did just that for a young couple, featured in House and Garden and photographed by Shade Degges.

21 Spanish Recipes Every Cook Should Know
This roundup of Spanish recipes from Saveur popped up in my feed. I also found several I want to try. This Spanish Almond Chicken with Saffron Wine Sauce is calling my name.

Outfit of the Week
I know you all enjoy the splurge and save options so here you go. The dress in the first option is the Lily Pulitzer Amirita dress. In fact, I purchased this dress for two weddings I will be attending this summer. It is expensive. There is one on Poshmark here. I also paired it with the Janessa Leone tanner bag (it will hold your hat if you tire of wearing it), birdies raffia sandals, and a Helen Kaminski hat. The raffia earrings are inexpensive from Amazon. In fact, I see no reason to pay a lot of money for a pair of raffia earrings.
FYI you can find many Helen Kaminski hats (including this one) on Poshmark here, and Ebay here. A quality raffia hat can easily be reshaped. Eric Javits has great suggestions here. So if it has an upturned brim spray with water or steam and form it with a wet towel in the rim.

I spotted this great eyelet dress on Gap. And I am surprised it isn’t sold out. I paired it with a hat also from the Gap, a bag from Etsy, sandals from Nordstrom Rack, and inexpensive raffia earrings. Has anyone ordered this dress?

A Word on Sponsorships and Gifting
After receiving a comment that I recommended the Frank and Eileen dress because it was gifted to me, I thought I should clear up some misconceptions. First of all, I was not gifted that dress. Yes, it was expensive. That is why I offered a very similar (perhaps even better for some) $89 version from Nordstrom. If I (or any other blogger) am gifted something, I state that it is gifted. If I am getting paid to represent a product, I state it.
That being said I am offered gifted and sponsored items every day. In fact, I only accept or represent items that I would use myself, or companies that I believe in. I was recently approached by a company that I thought you guys would enjoy . They wanted me to show an outfit that I would not wear, nor did I think you would be interested in. I declined. That is my policy.
The Weekly Scout Report
Scout is growing like a weed and chewing everything within sight! He is on Steve’s schedule and sleeps 8-9 hours in the crate every night. Occasionally he will get up in the night but rarely. Furrie is tolerating him. They have the occasional standoff, but he isn’t all that interested in her so far. Fingers crossed it continues!

That’s it from my desk this week. Thank you so much for reading Do you love Spanish food, architecture, and stylish outfits. You can also find any Sunday favorites that you may have missed right here. Now let’s pop over and visit Annie and Mary Ann for their Sunday favorites.

Hey Cindy, you’ve been very upfront about items gifted etc. not only that you’ve suggested your followers going to eBay and Poshmark to get good deals. Maybe the person who commyhas not followed your blog. I think you’ve been very transparent. I love your eBay and other sale suggestions.
Thank you Sandra so much. We love our eBay finds don’t we?
Cindy,
I love the outfits and Spanish food recipe. Scout is so precious. My puppy is now one year and 4 months old. He’s tamed some of his puppy habits but it’s easy to love him, naughty or not.
Have a wonderful week.
Karen B.
Hi Karen
You were a brave soul getting a puppy as well!
Cindy, I love both these outfits. I can see why you bought that dress for the wedding. It’s going to look fantastic on you. I can’t believe people thought that the Frank and Eileen was gifted without you saying it. I think you’re really transparent -and why would you not say so?
I also love this house!! Have a beautiful week.
Hi Kim
I wish the dress were gifted!! Like you, I am always honest about gifting and sponsored products.
Hi Cindy,
Thank you for all the work you put in to give us interesting blog posts. Why would someone question your integrity, is beyond me.. And something that irks me is readers that expect bloggers to be everything to everyone and no I am not a blogger. We need to learn to make our own decisions and if that means doing our own research well so be it.
Hi Rita
Thank you so much for your support. I think sometimes people assume things because they have never had it explained. That’s why I said what I said today.
Love both dresses, Cindy! Can’t believe the Gap pricing … so good. The backsplash marble in that Spanish style house took my breath away. Wowza. Scout is adorable. I don’t envy you the puppy stage … I remember our well. You’re in the thick of it! xo
Hi Juliet
The Gap often has great deals. I just have to remember to check.
Hi Cindy,
The black Lily Pulitzer dress will look beautiful on you with your gorgeous silver hair. I love the way you accessorised everything.
By the way you are a consummate professional and I will not repeat what Laura and Elizabeth have already said. I’ve always respected what you have to say. Trust is everything. YOU shine way on the top of the list.
Thank you so much Katherine. You are much appreciated!
I always love your fashion style! I have looked at that Lily Pulitzer dress many times! I think it’s beautiful. I hope you post a picture of yourself wearing it.
Have a great day!
Hi Carol
I certinly will. Watch ebay and poshmark. I ordered mine at a discount but there is one on eBay right now!
Cindy, love the dresses! Why am I always attracted to black? But I love the bag and shoes too!
Scout has big feet to fill but he has wiggled into my heart already. Buy some Elk antler bones. Hide your shoes. Puppies love leopard loafers. I can attest to that. Three Dog Bakery has edible rawhide bones made with no chemicals. My pups love them. BTW, your Summer is growing up too fast!
Hi Marcia
I am as well!
I’ve always felt that you are completely upfront about gifted items. I do appreciate very much that you show items from all price points. I admit that I sometimes am skeptical about bloggers who show primarily high-cost (which I recognize is a relative term) clothing and shoes. But one can still use their examples as a guide for finding similar things at a more comfortable price point–or, better yet, putting an outfit together from what one may already own.
Scout is just beautiful, and what a wonderful addition to your family.
Thanks for all you do!
Hi Sarah
Thank you for your kindness. I have shopped resale my whole life, mostly out of necessity, but who doesn’t like a bargain? I love to hear peopole say they get inspiration and shop their own closet. That is the greatest compliment to me. You ladies inspire me to find different looks to share, so it is a win win.
Hi Cindy,
Gorgeous outfits, thank you for the post and lovely Scout !! Love the dresses.
I recently used Poshmark for the first time buying a dress for an upcoming wedding for a Tadashi Shoji dress that was a couple of seasons ago and sold out. One of those dresses you wished you had bought at the time! Well it arrived brand new tags attached, perfect. So happy !
And Helen Kaminski is deep in my hearts from our Australia days.
Happy week Cindy!
Hi Francesca
I have been a Helen Kaminski fan since my dear neighbor gave me two of her hats which I still own by the way. I think it was at least 15 years ago. If you consider cost per wear they are worth every penny!!
Hi Cindy! Scout looks so much like Beau and Bridger, such cuties!
Thanks for the spanish recipes. We are going to Spain in June and now I’m even more excited! Hope you all are well, Marilyn
Hi Marilyn
How is Nelson? How fun to be going to Spain. We will not be traveling anywhere anytime soon until Scout is fit to be left with someone!!
Oh I want that Lily dress in black. But no events coming. I even asked my daughter if there were any weddings coming. Apparently not yet. I did get that packable striped Etsy bag. That will be great for my trip to Santa Fe. So happy to see the Kaminski hats on EBay. I have three of them and adore them. You really have an eye for this Cindy. I’ll let you know if I break down and get the black Lily dress. Then we could be twins!!!
That dress would look fab on you!!
Cindy,
Blogging is hard work and a LOT of work, it is also expensive. Not to mention that there are RULES that we must abide by in this business. It irks me to no end when people question the integrity of bloggers. That said, there are a few unscrupulous bloggers that do not disclose sponsored posts or gifted items. YOU ARE NOT ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE. You are always honest, upfront, and write a beautiful blog and have for years. It is sad that people think you would compromise your integrity over a dress.
Rant over. Both of your outfits ideas look great. Although I will admit that I like the Lily dress more. Sometimes when you buy a timeless piece it costs more but you have it for years as I am sure that you will with this one.
Can’t wait to check out the Spanish recipes.
Love the Scout update, he is so sweet.
Have a great week Cindy.
Hi Elizabeth
You work extremely hard at what you do and you do it so well! I so appreciate your efforts and your kind words!
Thank you so much for the kind and thoughtful explanation of how you work with gifted products. I’ve had the same questions about expensive products, including Frank & Eileen. Many bloggers have been showing the Frank & Eileen line and I wonder, would you buy the item yourself? That is the most meaningful recommendation for me. I enjoy and appreciate your comments and blog.
Hi Laura
I forget sometimes how many new readers I have. I try to be as transparent as I possibly can. I want to stay true to my personal style and aesthetic. I am not going to go out and order new furniture online. I like to use what I have in new ways if at all possible. The same goes for my wardrobe. I love finding things in resale outlets for a particular look. That is why I cannot always link to some of the products.
Cindy – here’s another way to carry a hat hands-free. It’s a magnetic thingy that you put on your purse handle. So you don’t need a big tote.
& btw, I don’t say often enough how much I enjoy your content.

Hi Leu
I have seen those! Thank you for sharing!
Ahhh Scout. This is like owning a puppy without the work…so thank you 🙂 I was thinking of getting the Lily dress in green for Hawaii. Great outfits.
Hi Mary Ann
I love that dress in green! I think the length will be good on you too!!
