A Sideboard Counter Crafted from Old Flooring and More

Today I am joining my pals Mary Ann and Annie for some Sunday fun. Let’s chat about a sideboard counter crafted from old flooring and more

Cindy LaFerle’s Life Lines

Cindy LaFerle is a freelance writer and author who started following me and I noticed that she too had a blog. Cindy writes ” pieces that inspire readers to appreciate and enhance their lives”. If you would like to receive inspiration in your mailbox, I think you would enjoy following Cindy LaFerle. I sure do.

Beautiful Countertop Crafted of Old Flooring

As I have said many times before the former owners of our home had great taste. There are very few things that we have changed. As you also know if you have been following here for long is I am not a big fan of anything sparkly. The countertop on our sideboard was a black granite with sparkles. When Steve was still building homes he often used old barn beams and flooring in some of the homes he built. Colin and Lauren used what was left for a counter in their kitchen. Colin knew I wasn’t a fan of the sparkly counter and surprised me for mother’s day with a new counter for the sideboard with leftover wood from his project. It compliments the beams and the flooring in our home and I am beyond thrilled with it. I shared it on Instagram, but here are a few snaps.

The cocktail mixers are housed on vintage silver tray. The painting is from Patricia Huber fine art. The labrador was a gift from Pat. The wicker covered bottle was thrifted.

You can see how nicely it blends with the beams and floors in this shot. The bar tools are from Pottery Barn here.

Lauren’s Yummy Meal

We were lucky guests of Colin and Lauren last week and Lauren fixed this Dirty Martini Dip from Food and Wine. She said it was quick and easy. It sure was delicious.

Dinner was Colby Garrelts’ Grilled Pork Loin with Green Bean and Arugula Salad from Food 52. They served it with Otto’s Olive Bread (local baker).

Outfit of the Week

I don’t know about you but I am loving the matching sets trend. I am not normally a huge pink fan but this pretty colorway has my heart. J Crew is also having 40% off Summer Favorites with many good offerings.

  1. Cindy,
First let me say Thank you, for the compliment and for sharing my post.
I love gifts from the heart and this counter made from old beams is one of the sweetest I have seen. How wonderful that your son and daughter in law made you such a beautiful gift and one that you will see and enjoy every day.
I love that green is having a “moment” it is such a happy color and looks beautiful with so many other colors as an accent.
I am off to read and sign up for Cindy La Ferle’s Life Line! Looks like an inspirational and uplifting blog.
Have a wonderful week Cindy and thank you again.

    1. Hi Elizabeth

I got the nicest note from Cindy LaFerle. She is so appreciative of all of you that are now supporting her!

  2. I especially love this post!! So much inspiration:) – time to shop to add some color in the closet!
Love the wood counters and beams.
Can you tell me what pain color you’ve used in the rooms – a very nice neutral white.

    1. Hi Martha

So glad to hear you enjoyed it! We did not choose this white the former owners did. It is Creamy Sherwin Williams.

  3. Hi Cindy,
I think I’m really going to enjoy reading Cindy La Ferle’s blog. I’ve subscribed. Your Mother’s Day dinner at Colin & Lauren’s had my mouth watering.
Your sideboard with the beautiful wood top is so pretty. I love your style, both decor and fashion.
    Have a great week.
    Karen B.

  4. Cindy, I really like the rustic easel your painting is displayed upon. Could you tell me where I could find it?
    Thanks!

    1. Hi Amy

I can’t believe it you are in luck. I bought those for table numbers for my son’s wedding 16 years ago. I just found them on Amazon. I have two sizes. If you want a painting that size to have very little showing you would want this one https://amzn.to/3XhoU2y
If you want it to look more like the one I have in my post on my living room post you would need this one https://amzn.to/4eevj4m
I am so glad you asked. I never dreamed they were still available. I put them in my amazon storefront so you can always find them.

  5. Love love the countertop! He’s so talented!
I also love the matching sets. We cannot wear long sleeves from June through mid- September –
TOO HOT! So maybe I will get in a fall color!? 🤔
I too may follow Cindy – nice post about popularity…!

    1. Hi Gray

I think you would enjoy Cindy’s posts. They are short and very inspiring.

  6. Great post … like the “old days”. Recipes now saved on Pinterest and on the hunt for a wicker-wrapped bottle!
    Thanks for your Sunday visits!

    1. Hi Holly

I found all of mine in junk shops. Keep searching you will find one. They also have them on Etsy

  7. Cindy! I love that new top on your built-in cabinet! You had it filled with so many things when I saw it, that I hardly noticed it, but now…,it’s perfect! What a thoughtful piece!

  8. I am following Cindy now, too. How sweet of your boy to make that countertop?! It looks great!

  9. My wedding present (in 1978) was a dining room table made from an old bowling alley floor. It was gorgeous. The marriage didn’t last, but the table still looks great, LOL.

  10. We used old flooring boards to top the kitchen island in our summer home on Whidbey Island, WA. That was some 25 years ago. Everyone raved about the results. Guess we were ahead of the curve. 🙂

    1. Hi Judy

Funny you say that. Steve was using old beams and flooring in his homes before it became fashionable as well.
