Best Stylish Blazers for Women Over 50+
Nothing beats the versatility and timeless appeal of a great blazer. They can elevate your wardrobe with minimal effort. Whether you’re heading to a casual lunch, a formal event, or just amping up your jeans game, the right blazer is the key to looking effortlessly chic. I am joining my friend Kim from Northern California Style today for our monthly Signature Style Series.Let’s explore some of the best stylish blazers and jackets for women over 50+.
Blazers are a great extra layer for skirts and dresses, and they can give a pair of pants polish. I am a jeans girl, but I do like to dress them up with a simple tee or a great shirt. this year.
Key Features to Look for in Blazers
Fabric
I prefer natural fabrics like wool or a heavy cotton this time of year. I do have a ponte knit blazer or two that I love. The fabric is not the most sustainable (tencel or recyclable polyester are more eco friendly options) but it doesn’t wrinkle and lasts. When it comes to buying blazers buy the best you can and you will wear them for many years.

I purchased this military jacket from Rag and Bone last year on sale and I love it. You can find it on eBay here. I love the interesting buttons and fitted silhouette.
Structure vs Relaxed
For my physique I prefer a more fitted silhouette. My waist is still “smallish” compared to the rest of my body. Depending on your body shape you might prefer a more oversized fit.

I love the casual look of the Slade blazer from Rag and Bone. It is a favorite classic blazer. It comes in multiple fabrics. I own it in the ponte in camel and the green wool. I love both of them. You can also find them on eBay here, and Poshmark here.
Colors and Patterns
Herringone and tweed are very popular this year. I have had my eye on this one from Ralph Lauren (on sale at Dillards) here. Colorful options are very popular as well.

I admit I do not have many blazers with patterns, but the J Crew leopard above has been in my closet for many years. It is lightweight and has some stretch. I like the single button closure, and I sometimes wear it with a belt as well. You can find j crew leopard blazers here on Poshmark, or more j crew leopard here on eBay. The plaid blazer from J Crew was also an eBay find.

Classic Black Blazer
What is not to love about a classic black blazer? I have owned this blazer from Peruvian Connection (they brought it back this year)for probably ten years and I LOVE it. A classic black blazer never goes out of style.

You can see me wearing it over the years above.

Double Breasted Blazers
Double Breasted blazers are classics and are really enjoying a moment. I may invest in one this year. I am especailly loving this tailored peacoat version from J Crew.
Blazers with Unique Details
The best place to shop for blazers with unique details are Etsy, and the resale sites eBay, The Real Real, Poshmark, Thred Up and Velstaire Collective. I will share more about that in an upcoming post. You might also enjoy my post How to Score the Best Deals on Ebay and Poshmark here.
6 Blazers I am Coveting

I am loving the colorful options this season. All of these blazers are from Boden and J Crew except the Ralph Lauren blazer with pockets. Most of these are on sale. The chartreuse Boden jacket is corduroy, the hot pink is a nubby wool. The pale pink is boucle, the off white a heavier wool, and the Ralph Lauren has great equestrian styling. The J Crew faux leather blazer has been a reader favorite since the beginning of the season.

I agree your blazer collection and is amazing, Love the idea of changing buttons or using broaches!
I am also not receiving your mailing, hummm…could be me?
I have a years old J Crew navy blazer that I will wear till it falls apart.
My favorite blazer. hack is this – I love the Veronica Beard blazers, but am not interested in spending that much – Mango had a knock off that was almost exactly the same – down to the fabric content – that was $99. I got the black blazer and it was great, but had hideous buttons.
I ordered a nice set of brass blazer buttons from England, and basically got the same blazer for $200 as opposed to $695. 😀
Hi Gray
Replacing the buttons is one of my favorite tricks too! I don’t wear gold so gold buttons turn me off on certain blazers. I don’t understand the obsession with Veronica Beard but what do I know!! Those that love them claim it is the fit and fabric ha ha…
I truly like most of these selections ( I just know a couple wouldn’t look as good on my size – 12/14). I wonder how I can get on your list? I saw a person asked about that and I thought I too would like to be included. I so enjoy the classic style of this post for women my age who dress casually but want a little more when headed out. Thank you!

You always look so nice. You have a special touch for putting outfits together. Also love your hair.
Thank you so much Susan!
Great styling. I have a beautiful bright red one double breasted one from the 90’s that I inherited from my mother. But it needs to be shortened to get the ratio right. I think if I bought any that you’ve showed, it’s the bright yellow one.
Hi Prue
I love that yellow one too!!
Yellow looks nice but yellow does not look good on me. I like red and at least hip length. Would like black, navy, red, white, camel. Do you have recomendation for place to shop for them at larger sizes. I love the military button looks. I am over 70 am I to old? I just bought 4 colors of straight leg stretch cords. Was that a good purchase?
Cindy! I am not getting your mailings separately as in the past. Should I reregister? I just don’t want to miss your wonderfully written and inspiring postings.
Happy Thanksgiving from Mercer Island,

Hi Diney
I emailed you last week regarding this. You must not have gotten that email either…how weird. I checked with mailchimp and it shows that you unsubscribed, so it will not allow me to subscribe for you (to protect your privacy). If you https://cindyhattersleydesign.com/newsletter/and resubscribe you should be fine. Let me know and I will check again! I am so sorry. You are one of my favorite readers!!
Cindy, Great tips and you have the best jacket collection. You have such a great sense of how to style them too. I love all these tips. I agree finding these pricer jackets online at resale is smart. They can be found if you are willing to wait and what a great way to build your closet with better items!
I love the Slade blazer, also flattering. My friend found her checked version at The Rack! I always have my eye on the good pieces. Keep them on your radar, and know what they are and you can snap them up when you see them right?
I am excited to go look at your colorful jacket linked here. Feeling I need more color now..
xo
Hi Cindy,
Love all your jackets and how you pulled them all together is simply fabulous. It helps if you are “Wonder Woman” in styling everything. Thank you for sharing.
Have a beautiful day. It’s going to be 80 degrees in Arizona today and will be baking.
