A Delicious Soup
I am sure you know by now, I am a soup fan. We had dinner at my friend Linda’s lovely home a couple of weeks ago and she fixed this delicious Three Bean Sausage Soup.

Sausage Three Bean Soup
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups white beans
- 1 1/2 cups pinto beans
- 1 1/2 cups kidney beans
- 1 lb cooked sausage italian, kielbasa, or whatever you like
- 1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
- 4-5 carrots coarsly chopped
- 4-5 celery stalks diced
- 1 onion diced
- 4-5 cloves garlic minced
- 6 c chix stock
- 2 T olive oil
- 1-2 cups water
- 1 T parsley
- 2 tsp fresh sage (1 tsp if dried)
- 2 tsp fresh thyme ( 1 tsp if dried)
- salt to taste
Instructions
- I use dried beans that can be soaked overnight and then boiled them for about 20 minutes in the morning. They are so much cheaper than canned beans and they taste better Throw everything in a pot and turn on high just to get the soup going and after it is boiling, bring it down to low and simmer covered for up to 8 hours if you like. You can substiture almost any herbs that you have on hand, Enjoy!
Outfits of the Week
I really had fun with these outfits this week. I hope you enjoy them. I am coveting that red lace top (on sale) and the off white blazer/peacoat (not on sale yet save the link). I love dressing up jeans, so it was fun to create two day to night outfits.

Outfits of the Week Extended Sizing
You asked I came through! Now don’t disappoint me now ladies. I have offered these options before and no one seemed interested. I see how you struggle finding stylish options with extended sizing. J Crew offers a lot of extended sizing options as do many more retailers. I will continue to work on this if you are interested. What I did find… many of the retailers that offer only extended sizing have many options that look sort of juvenile? Is it just me? Yes we are older and we may need extended sizing but do we want to look like a kindergartner? I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

This outfit offers the same jeans from Madewell, the same lace shirt from J Crew , a pretty blazer from Ulla Popken, with the same accessories. You could also substitute these fabulous faux leather pants from Ulla Popken for the jeans.

If the tulle skirt is not your jam you could substitute this pretty satin skirt from Ulla Popken , or these faux leather pants.

Cindy! I love your outfits of the week!! Love the mary Jane flats!!
I think the outfits you have collated look very stylish and sophisticated. Unlike others, I have taken a deep dive into the Mary Janes and bought a black pair of Rollies with tiny crystals on them. They jazz up my otherwise boring outfits and are super comfortable, so a win win for me.
Beautiful tulle skirts!
Thanks to ballet, I now have two in my wardrobe from performances. One is black and perfect for wearing to the theatre as a spectator.
The other we wore two weeks ago. It’s a soft amethyst and our instructor teamed it with a black version of the ivory lace top in your post. We wore fine black stretch cami’s underneath. She bought the tops at Temu for $A12!
We’re all in our 70’s but a very special American lady wrote to me and said: “You all looked beautiful, by the way! Like dusk, and plums, and elegance!”
What a lovely thing for us all to hear, as performance ballet is not for the fainthearted!
Cheers Cindy and thanks for a great post.
Prue! I wondered about those Temu tops! Your ensembles sound lovely!!
Lovely post thank you and I love the soup recipe especially! Happy Thanksgiving Cindy and family xo
Cindy, I love the tulle skirts you feature and wear so well. I’m pear shaped and afraid they will make my bottom half look bigger. Any suggestions to how I could wear one would be appreciated.
Cindy, I’m also petite at 5’1” and have found lately that the inseams are getting longer! Some petite inseams are 29 1/2” long. What are they thinking?! I’m too curvy for juniors and my sewing skills are not what they used to be. I have had some luck with Madewell. I’m a cool summer and can’t wear red so winter white on the cool side and my dark green velvet jeans are my go to this year. Have a lovely Thanksgiving Cindy!
Hi Cindy,
The red shoes that you show and the link for buying are not the same red shoes.
Would you please send me a link to purchase the red shoes that you are showing?
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Diane
Hi Diane
I fixed it so sorry! I am loving Dolce Vita for their pricing and the fact they offer wides!!
I can’t wear anything except wide shoes, so thank you!
Love all the outfit options you show.
Really like the versatility in mixing and matching. Please keep doing these, I so love and appreciate all your hard work.
Been following you for quite a while, and this blog gets better and better. I so look forward to it!
Cindy!
It worked to reregister. Thank you so much for your generous help. Sunday mornings would not be the same without charming creative YOU!
There will only be four of us gathering around our Thanksgiving table, so I ordered the round twig chargers you featured. A brown transfer ware vase, I saved when we moved, will compliment the chargers and be filled with Japanese Forest Grass, turned golden, from our terrace.
May you find moments of relaxation amongst all your Thanksgiving festivities. Now I’m going to study those “fab” holiday outfits with thoughts of red on my mind.
Hugs, Diney on Mercer Island
Hi Diney
YEAH!! I would miss your insightful comments!
In my opinion, it is not just clothing brands in extended sizes that offer many juvenile-looking pieces, it’s the majority of brands in all sizes. I am 5’4: tall and wear size 4 to 6. I do not have petite proportions, i.e., I have long arms , legs, and am long-waisted. I also turned 70 recently. I feel that baby doll dresses and mini skirts look incredibly childish on my body. I still have a figure that could in some people’s view get away with these fashions, but I choose to just say no! I don’t understand some designers’ obsession with pinafore-like shoulder ruffles, multiple tiers on baby doll dresses, super short hem lengths, etc. I do not like the look of these styles on any female over the age of 14. Why do designers want us to look like little girls? What message are they sending?
Hi Kathy
Oh boy you struck a nerve with me. I don’t personally like anything with ruffles, bows, or short skirts. There are some who look good in them, but I am not one of them.
Re: the ruffles and cutesy bows. I have bought a few pieces after checking to see if I can remove the cutesy bits without damaging the part of the garment that I like. So far, three for three!
Ordered the Madewell jeans on sale! Thank you for extended sizing!
Woo Hoo! I am going to order another pair before they go off sale!
I’m going to try the soup. It looks yummy!
I just can’t get behind Mary Jane shoes. SMH they remind me of kindergarten. Just my opinion. Loved the red blouse and the ivory lace one too.
Hi Mary
I totally get it. They don’t look good on me but I think they are darling on others.
I must wear petite clothing. ( I’m 4’11”) so please continue extended sizes! So many retailers have eliminated or shrunk the petite department. And juniors are cheap, long and narrow. Also too trendy.
Hi Susan
I completely understand!
Susan
I agree with you 100% Petite sizes are hard to find and when you do they are really not petite. My friend is 5’6 and can wear “petite” at times . I hate spending good money for an item and then have to have it altered!
When I do find a petite department the clothes are always matronly.
Designers are missing a large market
Looks like I’m gonna spend today shopping thanks to you Cindy and perusing Mary Ann and Annie’s posts as well!
Hi Nancy
I am so hppy you found a few things!
LOVE the outfits!!! And the soup sounds amazing!
The soup is amazing and healthy!!
