Natural outdoor Christmas decor brings warmth, authenticity, and charm to your holiday decorating without the extra cost. We have a lot of organic material to choose from on our property. By using elements like evergreen branches, pine cones, twigs, antlers, magnolia leaves and berries, I can create an organic display that feels natural and effortless. This collection of 1o ways to decorate outdoors with natural Christmas decor will inspire you to transform your porch, yard, and entryway using materials from nature. Whether you prefer rustic simplicity or layered sophistication, these natural decorating ideas will help you celebrate the season in style (even if you haven’t begun) while staying eco-friendly and budget-conscious.

#1 Fluff & Embellish Trader Joe’s Wreaths
I purchased two Trader Joe’s wreaths this year. I placed one on my fountain and one on my courtyard mirror. Give the wreaths a good fluff and stretch before embellishing with additional natural elements foraged from the great outdoors.

The TJ/s wreath adds some extra cheer to our courtyard fountain.

I added one of the TJ’s wreaths to my courtyard mirror. I embellished it with some cedar, pine, and juniper, and black and white ribbon.
#2 Repurpose and or Rearrange Favorite Decor

This vintage yard deer resides on our back patio area in the summer but as the holiday season approaches we move her to the courtyard.

This vintage ammunition basket is normally in our guest bathroom but I move it out to our entry gate for the holidays and fill it with seasonal greens.
#3 Create a Garland Out of Foraged Elements

This year instead of having the wonderful Magnolia Company gift my outside decor, I decided to just deck the mantel with foraged greens from our property, pine cones and add lights. You can see what my courtyard area looks like with their fabulous products in my post Beautiful Natural Outdoor Christmas Decorations here, and Five Ways to Achieve a Natural Collected Look in your Courtyard for Christmas here. You can see I don’t change it up much from year to year. The large vintage zinc pots are from Atelier de Campagne.
#4 Fill Pots and Planters with Greens

Adding fresh greens to empty pots and planters transforms them into “nature ornaments”.
#5 Add Greens to Existing Pots and Planters that Need a Little Holiday Pick me Up

In December I add fresh greens to all of my pots and planters to get them though the winter months.
#6 Repurpose Vintage Decor Items

In the entry to our courtyard I add a little color by bringing out some vintage Native American blankets and decor.

My back entry pots look a little tired this time of year so I add some fresh greens, pinecones and faux pomegranates. The twig Christmas tree (we picked up a few years ago) has twinkling led lights.
#7 Don’t be Afraid to Mix Faux with Fresh Greenery

Steve made this mirror for our wine cellar in our former home from vintage ceiling tiles. The sconces were thrifted many years ago.The mirror is decked out with a faux wreath and garland. This area is covered so I don’t have to worry about fading. We fashioned the light out of a vintage wine bottle carrier from Patine.
#8 Add Seasonal Lighting
We add Christmas lights to our citrus trees in our courtyard to keep them from freezing, sparkle to the courtyard, and to the garland on the fireplace. We also scatter candles and votives around the courtyard area for ambiance. We add
#9 Add a Little Vintage to the Mix

It is no mystery that I incorporate antiques and vintage in everything I do. The vine ball is from Atrium Mercantile, as is the lead bowl.
#10 Be Creative and Use your Imagination

I had two of these baskets at one time. I think I may have loaned them out and one wasn’t returned. I filled it with foraged greens, twigs, pine cones and magnolia, and and called it good! You can find a similar basket here. There are great buys on Christmas decor now if you want to grab a few treasures for next year. You can find all of my picks here.

Cindy I love your posts….it’s a super blog and today is no exception!
I can’t help but remember this post by the late wonderful Bill Geist as he joined Martha Stewart in making a wreath from items from his yard! I watch this video every year and hope my decorations look more like Martha’s and yours than Bill’s!
Please take a moment for a good laugh?
Happy holidays!
Oh my gosh Shari you made my day! Did you ever see the Martha video of her covering the pillars of her home with chicken wire and stuffing them with pine needles. Honestly it would take someone a year to do all that. Thank you so much for this I loved Bill Geist…I am going to share it on Sunday if you don’t mind!!
Thanks for the ideas, Cindy! After struggling to put together a five-loop bow, I see that
you’ve given me a way easier idea with a simpler ribbon (looks like folded to me )for
my foraged wreath for the front door. Lots of snippets and downed evergreen branches
here.
Hi Mimi
I am not a ruffles and bows person so I like to just keep mine simple!!

Hi Rory
Thand you so much!
Farm Rio Jacket-What size did you order ?
Hi Barbara
I debated and debated and ordered a medium, that way I can wear a sweater under it. My other Farm Rio sweater is a medium. I am sure I could wear a small as well. It is always a tough decision!!
