Beautiful Natural Outdoor Christmas Decorations

I am joining some of my favorite creative pals for some holiday inspiration. I like to embrace the spirit of the season with creative ideas that incorporate natural elements from the “great outdoors”. What better way to embrace the festive season? We have an abundance of plant material available on our property. Using natural materials like pine branches, pinecones, rustic accents, and twinkling lights, I hope to create a warm, inviting ambiance in our courtyard that celebrates the simple beauty of the season. Let’s take a look at Beautiful Natural Outdoor Christmas Decorations.

Beautiful Natural Outdoor Christmas Decorations

We have a lovely entry to our home, but most of our friends and family enter through the side door. We dressed it up a bit a couple of years ago. You can read about that in my post Simple Ways to Amp up Your Home’s Fall Curb Appeal here.

The console table is home to two planters that are normally filled with succulents. I added a few branches, twigs, pinecones and faux white berries for the holidays. We purchased the twig tree at the Well in Santa Barbara the first year we lived here. I added greens to the base. There is a good reason the small Christmas wreaths from Trader Joe’s appear everywhere. They are so versatile. This year, the perfect place was on the shutters above the console table. I added the pretty velvet ribbon from Terrain.

If by chance you enter our home through the front door (most don’t) this is your view. It was a little gloomy the day of filming.

The large pots on our columns are normally filled with succulents. For the holidays I add pine branches, pinecones, and twigs.

Vintage Artillary Basket filled with greens, magnolia and faux berries-Cindy Hattersley Design

Last year (in lieu of a fresh wreath I adorned the gate with my vintage artillery basket filled with pine branches and berries. I liked it so much that I repeated it this year. I filled it with various greens from my yard, magnolia from Trader Joe’s and faux berries I have had for at least 20 years.

Once you enter there is another (what i would call entry).

When we have parties we set this console set up as a bar. Friends can grab a drink when they enter. You can see how we do that here in this post Host a Casual Cocktail Party for 30 with these Stylish Tips.

Steve made the above mirror for our wine room in our former home. It is decked out with a realistic faux cedar wreath and garland from Terrain. All available items will be linked at the bottom of the post.

The pièce de résistance in the courtyard is the fabulous Magnolia Company Fresh Bunches wreath and garland. Their product line is absolutely amazing. They are a small company with deep roots to the land in central Florida. If you order from the Magnolia Company you are investing in a small US business. You can read about their history here. The Magnolia Company has generously offered my readers 15% off any order through December 15th with the code Cindy15.

Console table with Deer and Magnolia Company Wreath

To the right of the fireplace is a console table Steve made out of old flooring and a base we ordered from Etsy. On top is a vintage concrete deer, candlesticks made from old balusters, a home depot mirror and a smaller version of the Fresh Bunches Wreath from The Magnolia Company

I love this fountain area in our courtyard. It is a lot of fun to style for the holidays. The wreath is from Trader Joe’s. I just added some greens from the yard. The basket came from Atrium Mercantile and is made of old tires. You can also find them on Amazon here. The vintage watering cans I have had for many years. The vintage zinc planter came from Patine, but you can find them on Etsy here as well.

The bowl came from Atrium Mercantile as well as the root ball that we converted into a light. All other available items are linked below.

Front doors with wreaths and bells

On the front doors are two Trader Joe’s wreaths. I added greens, magnolia and bells to enhance them. I didn’t have time to add greens and magnolia to the wreaths so I photoshopped them in (cheater). I will replace this picture with a new one once it gets light!

By incorporating natural elements like greenery, rustic items, and festive accents, you can create an outdoor display that feels both welcoming and timeless. I will be back on Thursday or Friday (depending on when I complete my decorating!) to share the inside of my home. Now let’s pop over and visit my talented friends to see what they are sharing!

  1. The natural looks great with your house.
Love your house and house you sold. I love the natural look but for Christmas I go with colors.

    1. I love the look of bringing in the natural and using it everywhere as well as the ticking ribbon. Can you explain how you tie the ribbon so it isn’t a bow?

      1. Hi Susan

So sorry this is late. I wire the ribbon to the wreath and trim the ends with scizzors..very simple!

  2. So beautiful Cindy – love all the natural elements! The unexpected magnolia and non traditional colors are stunning. I’m inspired to go out of my comfort zone!

    1. Hi Barb

The homes I have lived in have not been red friendly. I love red at Christmas!

  3. Wow. I’m in the Christmas Spirit just seeing your home decorated. Thanks for the great ideas.

  4. Your house looks absolutely amazing and can only imagine the beautiful smells of the greenery. One of my most memorable Christmas’s was in Washington DC and I went to the Midnight Carol Service in an old church in Annandale. The Church smelt like Christmas should and as we left, it started snowing. It was truly magical. I keep forgetting the bit where the brother in law forgot to out anti freeze in the car and the car would not start. I do not use fresh greenery here (in Oz) as the weather is too hot and after a couple of days it would be very sad looking.

  5. Cindy- I love everything you do!! What a beautiful home you have and so many great outdoor vignettes!! Love it all!! My outdoor pullers in our Colorado home remind me of yours!!

  6. Cindy, I love your beautiful Christmas decor. The natural elements foraged from your surrounds with faux elements added in look beautiful! I have been doing the same outside by foraging in the woods, the yard and using a few of the thousands of pinecones that fall each year.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home! Merry Christmas and a very happy and blessed New Year.

  7. I love the way you steer clear of the cliched red and green, Cindy. The natural green, magnolia leaves and tan leathers etc – so perfect.
I wish we could go berserk outside but prior to Christmas, climate change is causing heavy rains and humidity and the dampness leeches right into outdoor furniture, greenery and everything goes very limp.
I haven’t even done anything inside yet. Christmas is literally one day for us as we’re in the middle of summer and we traditionally just want to get on with summer holidays, boating, swimming and beaches. Well I do, anyway. I mean golly – what if Christmas is the most perfect boating day ever and we’re stuck on land around a table eating too much food?! Enthusiasm for summer holidays though is 100%.

    1. Hi Prue

This house with all of the bronzes and golds is just not a red and green Christmas house. My former home wasn’t either. If I lived where you live I would embrace the Summer!! On my bucket list!!

  8. Cindy, your outdoor spaces are amazing … your flair for decorating containers and bowls is a talent I wish I possessed. And those wreaths, especially from Magnolia Company. Stunning. I’m going to check them out right now. Thanks for organizing this holiday decor collaboration with so many inspiring women starting off with YOU. Wishing you the very happiest birthday week! xo

    1. You are so kind Juliet. The Magnolia Company products are beyond amazing. I have never seen better quality and they are a small family owned company so I love supporting them!

  9. Cindy, as usual EVERYTHING is over the top extraordinary. You have such a gift to create natural beauty.

  10. Hi Cindy… I’m new to your site. I just love your use of simple natural elements for your holiday decorating! Thank you for your inspiration!

  11. Absolutely stunning at every turn. Your touches using natural elements are so perfect for your home. I love it all Cindy!

  12. Cindy your outdoor spaces belong in Milieu magazine!! They are stunning and I imagine this took a lot of work. It’s all so fresh and pretty though. You have a knack for throwing branches and ribbons together and making it look like a million dollars. Love the bowls and baskets too. Appreciate the tips for planters too and will try this! What a stunning entrance you have too. Fun doing this with you all. I pinned everything. xo

  13. Cindy, all of your details are so beautiful! I love the look of decorations that reflect a home and its locale. (Ex: For me, beachy Christmas looks are best at the beach!). You do a superlative job achieving that. I only wish I could stop by for a glass of wine and see it all in person.

    1. Oh Beth I wish you could too!! I completely agree. A home should reflect it’s locale inside and out and not compete with it.

  14. Cindy, good morning from the NW Coast,

Thank you so. much for your kind remedy which enabled me to receive your amazing blog again. It is like an early Christmas present.

Your creative use of gathered greens from your property is extraordinary. It draws us into the natural beauty of “Mother Earth” while inviting us into the serenity of the season. It also inspires me to walk my environs with an eye out for boughs and berries to create similar simplicity in our retirement apartment and terrace.

With love for a “happy birthday,”

  15. Wow! Cindy, this is gorgeous. I love seeing the same spaces with the space pots etc that were filled with succulents and now filled to the brim with evergreens, magnolia leaves, pinecones….it’s all so beautifuL! I think it’s great to show such variety in sources and how you use the material. So inspiring!

    1. Thanks Annie…the succulents are still there the strong survive! I just add pinecones and greens to the bare spots!

  16. Beautiful and so inviting! I just bought my TJ’s wreath yesterday. I love your ribbon choices and bells. I have been using magnolia leaves in my pots the last couple of years , they dry beautifully and I re-use them… Cheers!

    1. Robbie I reuse mine too! That is what I love about Magnolia…you can purchase it in the fall and it makes it through the Christmas holidays!

  17. Wow! Gorgeous, Cindy, I saw a bunch of pinecones on the ground in a park that I think I should go “clean up” and add to my planters. This is go welcoming for guests!!
