TEN PLACES TO DONATE TO HELP INDIA

My heart breaks when I hear of the tragedy in India.  We all become disillusioned with our country at times but are we lucky to be living in America, yes we are.  This Strategist article lists ten places where you can donate to help India now.

MANY CONSIDER THIS SALAD TO BE THE BEST IN THE WORLD

VIA CAROTA (I have never been there), I have only made the salad.  It is honestly one of those salads that seems so simple you can’t figure out why it is so good.  Here is the recipe for Via Carota’s Ensalada Verde.  Try it I think you will love it.  Let me know. This salad and a simple arugula salad I make are great when you already have a busy complex menu but just want something green to complement the rest.

JILL SHARP STUDIO ON INSTAGRAM

I am always in constant awe of Jill’s curatorial eye.  I am kind of in a black and white earthy mood, and no one does it better than Jill.  You can follow her here on Instagram (but I am pretty sure you already are).  I love these cute totes from Etsy

OUTFIT OF THE WEEK A BREAK FROM COLOR

I know many of you loved my interview with Deborah Darling on Friday for Ageless Style.  I thought this week we would shadow Deborah and do a little black and white.  Jennifer and I will be featuring black and white in our upcoming Fashion Edit as well.

This tunic from Anthro is supposed to be a coverup (if you are under 40).  I think it would be a great tunic with white jeans.  I am so happy that korkease has added some new styles to their sandal roster.  I have two pairs of their sandals that I have had for four or five years.  They are still in great shape and so comfy. This Etsy shop Akusas baskets has the cutest summer totes. I love this polka dot number. Love this straw hat from Madewell and the jewels are “cheap” from Amazon.  All items linked below the graphic.

SHOP BLACK AND WHITE OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

Many of you have asked for an extended-size version of the outfit of the week.  Here I added a Linen Cotton Tunic from Everlane in extended sizes and the cute frayed J Jill Crop Jean  (I think I need to try these). This jean comes in petite and tall as well. Gap also has a nice extended size big shirt here that is reasonably priced as well.

LOVE, love , love this post . You’ve knocked out of the park with the outfit of the week, very rough luxe . The natural textures against black and white feels like a summer vacation. I’d totally do an all white fragrant garden.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Liana

I am so happy you enjoyed the outfit of the week. You have such a great eye. I love the juxtaposition of the organic materials and the black and white as well. I love cork, raffia and leather with white it takes the edge off, both in home decor and fashion. I would love to try a white garden sometime as well.

ALL WHITE GARDEN WOULD BE GORGEOUS!
I STARTED OUT WANTING AN ALL FRAGRANT GARDEN!BOY IS THAT HARD TO DO SEASONALLY SO YOU HAVE SOMETHING BLOOMING YEAR ROUND!
VIA CAROTA was my FAVORITE STREET in FLORENCE…………….well outside the city walls!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Eliz

Fragrance where there is a strong breeze can kind of get lost. I love a fragrant rose but prefer form over fragrance, although both would be ideal!! I do not care for modern roses. I don’t think you do either.

Cindy this is a fun post. I know you must be super busy getting ready for that move! I love so much that you shared here. I have the J. Crew slouchy white jeans. I wasn’t sure if I liked them when I first got them, as they have a ballon sort of modern shape to the pant, but now they are my favorite, so comfy! They make everything look a bit updated. I LOVE Korkese and this style is adorable. I am going to order a pair.. Now to decide which color! I have the coverup in white, but wearing it as a tunic is a cute idea. WHY not? More ways to use our cute things sitting in the closet. I love Jill Sharp and everything she does! Good luck with the move!!. xo

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Kim

I know I just love those J Crew jeans the longer I have had them. I first purchased the white because my old gap ones were looking a little ragged, and went back and got the regular denim. I used to wear their jeans all the time. I feel like J Crew is really back on track. Just love what they do!! Korkease are so comfy and they LAST!! Totally worth the $$$$. Jill Sharp is a godess when it comes to styling. I am so in awe of her.

Too bad there is no access to the recipe unless one subscribes to the NYT. Sounds delicious though.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cc

I am so sorry I don’t know why sometimes you can link to them and sometimes not. I linked to a different site with the same recipe.

      Hi Linda

Aren’t those bags so fun? I would like to have three or four!

  5. Karen B. says

    Hi Cindy,
I love white gardens. I grew one in our last house. It was fun for a while, but eventually, I got bored with white only and started replacing some of ht white plants with pink, blue, and white. This salad looks delicious.
    Good luck with your move.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Karen

I am afraid that is what would happen to me. Our kids have pulled it off but they are super organized and like to keep things simple. I will be posting more pictures of their home and garden as it will have to be my laboratory until my fixer is fixed!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Nancy

Yes we have as good Americans do what we can. It is such a human tragedy.

  6. Nan says

Unrelated to black fashion options, wanted to share my recent eBay finds in a lovely dusty lavender shade you might love: Eileen Fisher’s silk georgette styles in the color “Luna”: wide leg cropped pant, cotton/silk shibori print scarf, and draped tunic, all new with tags and machine washable! I believe it was in her spring line of 2020, when none of us were shopping in stores. As for the white garden idea: it would offer visual tranquility, but prefer more colorful plantings. Enjoy the packing- and unpacking!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hey Nan

Great tip for our readers. I have a thing about sticking to natural fabrics so I rarely wear anything that isn’t, It’s not that I am carrying a banner for all things natural or anything but I just feel more comfortable in linen and cotton. But for those that don’t great tip!! Keep them coming. You know how I love Ebay!!

  7. Joanna says

I have a mostly “white” garden. I picked white popcorn rose bushes, hydrangeas, hellebores, pieris japonica, spirea and azaleas and roses. They really stand out at night amongst the trees, shrubs and hedges. I do have some colour in my lilac bush as the dwarf one, Miss Mini, only blooms in mauve and my wisteria has purple blooms. Of course, shrubs are in various shades of green, yellow, tinges of purple or pink to add variety and most importantly interest. All in all, a very soothing garden.
Jill’s room for her mother is wonderful. How delightful to be surrounded by things that are familiar, have memories attached, and add beauty, even in an assisted living home. It is as it should be for all who need care, not institutional.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Joanna

Your garden sounds wonderful. I believe you have to add a bit of purple and pink to keep a white garden “alive”. Would love to see pictures! I so agree about Jill’s space they created for her mother. It must be so comforting for her to be surrounded by the things she loves.

  8. Cindylou says

We planted a white garden when we landscaped our backyard seven years ago. We live on a hill so we have a deck overlooking the backyard. It is beautiful at night with the light reflecting off the white blooms. I couldn’t find white lavender so I have a few lavender plants in there. We have a white bougainvillea and white roses that bloom all year. It is very restful. I’ll have to check out Jill’s blog-I want to redo our family room in back/white and neutrals.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cindylou

First I have to tell you I love your name. My best friend in high school called me Cindylou my entire life, so I have a special place in my heart for that moniker. Your garden sounds heavenly. I think I may have to do a post on reader’s gardens. What do you think?

  9. Wren says

So nice that you and Kim have mentioned ways to help in India.
The artwork clear up to the ceiling and around the 4-poster bed is smashing!
What am I doing this weekend? Lucky to be in Cabo, reading your post poolside. 🙂

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Woo Hoo have fun in Cabo, dreaming of our trip to Hawaii in the fall!!

  10. Janet Arden says

Cindy– I actually planted a white garden in our side yard 4 or 5 years ago & I love it!. It’s somewhat shaded, so mostly hosts, astilbe & a few grasses. I’d like to add a few more bloomers the year I’m really looking forward to trying that salad & love, love, love the bedroom Jill Sharp created for her mother. Good luck with the move! .

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Janet

Such a good point about a white shaded garden. First of all no many colorful plants love shade and the white gives life to the shade. Would love to see your garden too! Wasn’t Jill’s mom’s space just wonderful.

  11. Mary Ann Pickett says

LOVE that black and white outfit! That is definitely something I would wear. And that salad looks amazing. How sweet is Jill Sharp’s room for her mother…I’m going to follow her. Also, I appreciate the ways to help India.
Wish I could help you somehow, Cindy!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mary Ann

You could totally pull that black and white off! You need it I think!! So glad so many loved the space Jill created for her mother. I thought it was so touching. Especially for those of us that have been there. You totally need to follow her!!

  12. Elizabeth says

I love Via Carota! When I am in NYC, I try to go there at least twice. I order all the veggie sides, and always delicious!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Elizabeth

So happy to hear that. I have never been there but know that if a cook of your stature recommends it must be fabulous!!
