Three Enchanting Holiday Home Tours you Will Love

Today I am joining my pals Annie and Mary Ann and we are sharing our homes all decked out for the holidays. Annie lives in Connecticut, Mary Ann in Florida and of course I am in California, so this should be fun. Join me for Three Enchanting Holiday Home Tours you Will Love.

Let’s start at the front entrance. I did not have the front planters decorated for Christmas when I featured my courtyard in the post How to Decorate Your Courtyard for Christmas.

I filled the planters with twigs, foraged greens and large sugar pine cones. the wreaths on the pillars are unadorned home depot wreaths with burlap tassels that I have had for years.

Since you have already seen the courtyard, let’s meet me at the front doors. Come on in. These are the doors off our courtyard that you enter to get to the main house. These wreaths are the same Home Depot wreaths to which I added vintage butterscotch ribbon and bells from Amazon.

From the entrance you can view the large faux Terrain tree that I featured on my Sunday favorites here. These doors will have curtain panels to warm them up in the near future.

This year I wrapped the presents in simple gold matte and white paper with blue and gold ribbon.

I designed the nametags on Canva. The family name tags are from vintage botanicals. Summer loves tigers so I made hers with a vintage tiger print.

You can read my post on How to Create a Natual Looking Christmas Mantel here with all the details.

The dining area (a rug is one of my next projects) is part of the great room and off of the kitchen. I dressed the light fixture with a simple garland from Home Depot. Next year I would like to purchase a couple of faux ones from Park Hill Collection.

On the table is a large antique trencher (bowl) filled with faux pairs and foraged greens. I am always asked about my dining chairs. I had them custom-made and them made by my upholsterer and monogrammed by Trish from Cottage by Design (my long-time monogram guru). She is currently working on Summer’s room (watch for that in 2023). The table was made by Steve back in the 80’s. The base is an old quilting frame.

On the wall behind the table is a favorite antique stretcher-based table (found on a trip to Savannah) decked out for Christmas. On the table is an old Canada Goose decoy, a New England potato-stamped Native American basket (filled with faux pomegranates), and an old vessel (a gift from one of Steve’s former favorite employees carried back on the plane from a mission trip to the former Eastern Block). The mirror came from the Horchow catalog probably 20 years ago.

Last but not least is our cozy den, which we just love. You can check out my post How to Create a Globally Inspired Den here for the full tour and resources on this room here.

The tree was used in our lake house for many years. It is decorated with birds nests, quail eggs, birds, pussy willow balls and antler ornaments (from walmart). I used all of these decorations and more on a tree I did for a local Christmas show house many years ago.

  1. Merry Christmas and thank you for sharing your nature inspired Christmas decor. Can you share where you got the chairs flanking the fireplace? I’d love to have these in my home!

    1. Hi Teri

Oh my those chairs are old! They are from Lee Industries. They were in a clients home for years and then she had to get rid of them and I had them recovered in a Perrenials fabric for my family room in my Chualar home. I just checked and they are still available here. You will have to find a retailer that can order for you though.

  2. Hey Cindy,
Thank you for your blog. I am always inspired by your style, especially the way you use and re-use your collection to create a fabulous decor. Your hike and garden are gorgeous. Christmas wishes to you and your family!

    1. Hi Helen

Thank you so much. I am so grateful for all of your support as well. You keep me inspired!!

  3. Hi Cindy,
I know they’re probably all out, so I’m inquiring for next year. Can you give me the name of the tree from Terrain? Hopefully they will carry it next year also. Its stunning!

    1. Hi Judy

I just checked. The page isn’t even listed. I hope they do too. We got lucky it was a great price point and it looks great. It was unlighted though. Steve may have to figure out a way to make that work next year so he doesn’t have to hang the lights year after year!

  4. Hi Cindy
I have been enjoying going back and reading your old posts, for instance the one about growing up on Lake Shafer (and I knew I liked you, I’m an Indiana girl too, and spent fun vacation time on Lake Shafer.) Anyway, wanted you to be aware that there’s a tech issue with some old posts. I tried to click on your “year-end posts wrap up” in 2016 and all it does is take me back to this most recent post. I would love to keep reading your old posts, so hope there is a fix. It has happened a number of times.
Love your down to earth style, especially your unique style / fashion posts. We all need someone like you lighting our way at our age!

    1. Hi Cyndi
So glad to know you are a fellow Hoosier! Since I have been blogging so long some of the very old posts are missing pictures and don’t work properly so they have been redirected to my home page.  I have been blogging sine 2011 so some of those posts are now nearly blank dear to outdated photo storage etc.  There is no way to bring them back, unfortunately.  Thanks so much for reading!
      Fondly, Cindy

  5. Cindy,
Everything looks so pretty and festive. Yay! Christmas is almost here. Have a wonderful time with family and friends.
I wish you a New Year filled with good healthy and lots of fun.
    Karen B.

  6. Cindy, your home is so beautiful! I love seeing how you put things together including the antique and vintage pieces.
I’m going to steal your idea with the pears and greenery for my dining table. Would love to find faux pears that looks so real. Do you recall where you got them?

  7. Would you please tell where the rug came from in your den. I would love one in your colors for my home.

  8. Dear Cindy,

You and Steve make a marvelous team. How wonderful you share an aesthetic that fills your home with hunted “finds” as well as treasured heirlooms.

Your nature foraging enhances the beauty of your collected home. Everything feels natural as well as welcoming

    A Joyous Christmas,
    Diney on Mercer Island

  12. Thank you Cindy for all your marvelous posts this year l have loved all of them! Have a wonderful Christmas in your new home, peace and love to you and yours.

  13. Your house is decorated beautifully. I live in Tampa and we are headed to wine country the last week of January, staying in an Air B&B house rental with two other couples for one of my friends 50th birthday. We’ve never been so any tips would be great. I’m sure it will be cold but we are very much looking forward to our trip.

  14. Your Holiday look is wonderful and fits your house beautifully. Love your blog
and the great variety of things to gain inspiration from! Merry Christmas to
you and your family. Summer will add so much joy to the day. Look forward
    to next year!🎅🏻🎄

  15. What a delightful share! I love that your holiday decor incorporates so many of your decorative pieces with your own history. I have found it fun and challenging to decorate a new house this year. Although I actually have more space to decorate, I have been a little more deliberate in what I use. (Use the best & pass along the rest?) Happy Holidays!

  16. Cindy…I am new this year to following a blog. I would like to thank you for your informative and inspirational ideas. You have moved to my area and I have learned about some new places on the central coast, love that. Happy holidays from Arroyo Grande! Visit our AG Village because it is festive for the holidays.

  17. It all looks very festive.I love the natural look of your Christmas decor.
How do you protect your dining chairs from Summer’s little hands? I had six chairs custom made and bought an antique chenille fabric, that I fell in love with, shipped to them to complete. Now I’m fearful of the little ones staining them.
    Have a Merry Christmas Everyone!

    1. We have three grandchildren under five. The youngest is still in a high chair ( which we place on the hardwood floor as it is easier to clean than our wool Indian rug) The 3 and the five sit in the dining room chairs ( only the seats are upholstered) which we cover with a seasonal towel as little hands will always wipe themselves on the seat and not use a napkin! Our dining room set survived their father, uncle, cousins and other tiny human visitors. Not sure a fully upholstered chair would be practical but the mahogany chairs with upholstered seats can be recovered easily as a DIY project. There are lovely fabrics available now that repel dirt and stains. Mary Anne has mentioned them in her blog.

      1. I spent so much money on the fabric in 2010 ( over 1K) that I don’t want to replace it. Like you, I have been putting towels on the chairs with the young kids. I was hoping for a better solution.

        1. Hi Joanna

My fabric is a performance fabric from Sunbrella. I have had these chairs for at least ten or twelve years and the spots from greasy little hands are easily cleaned. All of the fabrics (other than leather) in my home are now performance. I do cover the chairs with a towel when Summer sits on them though just for safe measure!

    2. Your home tour is such a treat! Just beautiful. I always love reading your posts, and especially the entire holiday season. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas!!
