A Gray Hair Care Line I Think You Will Love

This post is sponsored by Hair Biology but the opinions are my own.

I was pleased when I was approached by Hair Biology.  I was anxious to give their Silver and Glowing Collection a try. I have been on the hunt for a silver hair care line with a more approachable price point. Let’s chat about A Gray Hair Care Line I Think You Will Love.

The Silver & Glowing Collection includes a moisturizing shampoo, conditioner, and serum. Its unique purple formula helps correct yellow tones so your hair doesn’t take on that brassy look. It is free of parabens and dyes and enriched with biotin (which I love).

My hair has been gray/silver for over 12 years as you can see here at my daughter’s wedding in 2011.  When I  went natural there were very few products on the market formulated for gray hair.  Over the years there have been many introduced and I have tried most of them.  Many of the products I favor are on the expensive side. That is why I was anxious to try Hair Biology’s affordable Silver and Glowing Collection.

They had me at “we believe in the power of celebrating age and the experience that comes with it”. I love that. Naturally, our hair changes as we age.  As our hair grays it becomes coarser and less manageable.  If your hair is silver like mine you may have trouble with it yellowing, as silver hair contains little or no pigment.  Chlorine and other chemical residues in water, sunlight, hot irons, and hair dryers can also give gray or white hair a yellowish cast. Note the vibrant silver of my hair direct out of the shower after using Hair Biology’s Silver and Glowing Shampoo and Conditioner (even under artificial light)

I just discovered recently that one of the products I was using to reduce frizz can actually increase yellowing.  I was happy to try Hair Biology’s Silver Shine SerumIt’s simple to apply, gives a nice subtle shine, smooths and softens, and seals in moisture.

Hair Biology’s Silver and Glowing Collection is specifically formulated to work with your “unique hair biology not against it”.  I am fortunate to not have thinning hair, but I do have issues with frizziness.  My hair is just wavy enough to cause me grief and tends to be a bit unruly. Here is my hair after shampooing conditioning and applying the serum.

My candid review?  I am impressed, to be honest.  I have not been thrilled with the more price-friendly brands I have tried, either the shampoo was okay and the conditioner so-so or vice versa. I really felt like all three of these products did the trick.

I know some of you shy away from purple shampoos.  If used properly you will not look like one of the lunch ladies from your childhood. Thank you for reading A Gray Hair Care Line I think You Will Love. I would highly recommend that you try the Silver and Glowing Collection if you are looking for great products to combat brassiness and restore moisture, softness, and shine.

Thank you to Hair Biology for sponsoring this post.

Thank you so much for your honest recommendation. My hair is pretty much the same color and length as yours, and I find the products I buy to be expensive. I’m anxious to try all of these products!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Demi

My products are expensive too. I don’t mind spending more since I am not spending money on color. However, if there are products that are just as good for less money why spend it? I found this line to work extremely well. I especially love the conditioner and serum.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Annie

My hair is pretty healthy (which I think has to do with collagen). It is unruly and can yellow however. These products are great.

  2. Vv says

I am totally white as you are and appreciate your comments on the hair products for white hair. I did not think you should use the purple shampoos every wash. I will give them a try, thank you.
Your outfit for the wedding is gorgeous!! As is your necklace. The white shirt with the pin is very pretty.
Would you have any info on where to purchase?
    Thank you!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Vv

I think for most people (unfortunately that is not me), once every two weeks or once a month is sufficient. I do not wash my hair more than twice or three times a week at the very most. I can use it every time without any bluish cast whatsoever, but I know I am unusual. My hairstylist suggested a really good clarifying powder. I will do a new post on hair soon!

Thanks so much for the information Cindy. I have looked at this product in rage store. I’/ve been using the products my salon sells and they’re pretty pricey, My hair is salt and pepper — more pepper right now but more salt all the time, especially a swatch around my face. I’m going to try these products! I really appreciate the research you do in your recommendations.
    Have a wonderful holiday!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Janet

I would give this line a try. I was really surprised quite frankly. I never promote a product I would not use myself. I just can’t do that. I particularly liked the conditioner and the serum.

  4. Gina Edwards says

This is off topic, but do you have the info of mother of the bride long silver skirt and white tie blouse included in the pictures of this post please? Thank you!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Gina

No worries. My daughter was married twelve years ago and I still get asked about the outfit every time I post the pic. The skirt was by Caroline Herrera. I found mine on Ebay. If you do a search I bet you can still find them. The shirt is by Fabrizio. J Peterman has a very similar one in their catalog.

  5. Jennifer says

I love that it’s free of parabens and dyes! Can’t be too careful with the stuff we put in our body. Your hair looks fabulous.

  6. Diana M says

Cindy, you have never led me wrong with hair products. With the price for all three of these items being only slightly more than my previous conditioner alone, I can’t wait to try them! Thanks and Merry Christmas!

  7. Sarah says

I use HB volumizing shampoo and conditioner, and they’ve helped tame the wiry gray hairs that are sprouting daily. Will have to try these as well.

    Merry Christmas!

  8. Holly says

Great recommendation! I just have grey at the temples (think Elsa Lanchester in Frankenstein – HA). But even that little section can get yellowing. And how great that they have a volumizing line as well. I have baby fine / thin hair so I need all the help I can get. Thanks again for the valuable tip! Happy Holidays to you and the family!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Holly

Happy Holidays pal! Give it a try and you might like the volumizing line as well! I can’t vouch for that one.

  9. Wren says

Thanks for this critique, Cindy. I stopped using a purple shampoo because it seemed to leave my hair somewhat purple and I do not care to look like the lunch ladies you mention! The serum in this line sounds especially interesting. Now I’m wondering where you buy these in our area? It looks like you’ve cut your hair even shorter and it’s very flattering.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Wren

I know that does happen with some. I have the opposite problem. Give the serum a try. It is light and seems to work quite well.

  10. Bette says

If Hair Biology is reading this (!), I hope they’ll consider a fragrance-free line of the same items. I’m desperate to do something with my unruly grays, but cannot find products that are suitable for hyper-sensitive skin. Thanks and happy holidays!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Bette

Thanks for weighing in. Hopefully they are! I am fortunate to not have sensitive skin. Maybe some of our readers who do and have tried this line could weigh in on that subject! Happy Holidays!

  11. Colleen says

I’ve used all three and love them, I can only use it once a month or the purple will turn my silvers a darker shade, love the shine serum to calm some dry ends and unruly bangs!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Colleen

Thank you for sharing that, as I have said I do not have that problem. Do you use a clarifying shampoo as well? I find that helps. I will share my new stylist recommendation on that in an upcoming post.

  12. Kathy says

I have not tried the serum but have been using the shampoo and conditioner for about a year. I like both. I use an oil by Glam Squad before using my curling wand. Is the Hair Biology a heat protectant also?

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Kathy

I do not believe it does. I have not found those products that protect against heat to be very effective. I wonder how others feel about that? I will check out your recommendation.

  13. Dena says

Cindy, it seems like I remember you mentioning that you get keratin treatments in your hair to control the frizz and I’m wondering about your experience with them. Do you still get them, what brand do you get, and are you pleased with the results?

      • Marie says

Cindy you have beautiful hair and a great cut!. Thanks for the recommendation – I plan to give it a try. I am also very interested in keratin treatment for frizz. Perhaps another topic sharing your experience with it.
        Merry Christmas!

        • Cindy Hattersley says

          Hi Marie

I will do a haircare post in the new year. I have a new stylist that is absolutely fabulous as well, but I think you will really like this line. Great products at a great price.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Dena

I do maybe twice a year. I get the Brazilian Blow Out. My new stylist does not think I will need them anymore. I hope he is right. My hair can get really frizzie. He will find out I guess! He really gave me a great cut.

    • Angela says

Same here. It is much more subtle than all the others I’ve tried and just like good skincare products, there are no nasties.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Sally

I tried that at one time and it didn’t seem to tame my brassiness but my hair tends to really yellow. I know the keratin does not help that! I know many people are fans.

  14. Judee Biggles says

Cindy, I am excited to try the Hair Biology on your recommendation, as the Revlon blow dryer you recommended, is my “go to”.
I think my hair is similar to yours, in that I have plenty, good body, and a bit of curl. Keep those recommendations coming!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Judee

Give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. Oh my gosh that Revlon gadget is the best! I could not do without mine.

  15. sandra says

Can you use it every wash or only occasionally? Some products will turn your hair blue if you use them every day.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Sandra

I do not think you could use them every day. I do not wash my hair every day. I try to only wash it twice a week. I wear hats a lot when my hair does not look it’s best. I can use it twice a week no problem, but as I have said, my hair really can get brassy. I would read the comments by readers that are using it above.

  16. Julane borth says

I’ve been using these three products for several months and love them. Ditto what you say about it Cindy. The serum leaves my hair looking healthy.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Julane

I am glad to hear that. I was really impressed. It is nice to have some products you can count on that don’t cost an arm and a leg.
