Discover the Power of Relationships, Aging Beautifully and More

Happy Sunday everyone. It is hotter than you know what here. Today I am joining my pals Annie and Mary Ann for our Sunday Favorites. How do you feel about the importance of relationships as we age? Do you maintain your old friendships, and have you made new ones as you have matured? Let’s Discover the Power of Relationships, Aging Beautifully and More this week.

MAYO CLINIC MAINTAINING HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS AS WE AGE.

Steve and I are traveling to Indiana for my 50th reunion. This article from the Mayo Clinic resonated with me. We will be reconnecting with old friends from college and high school. We always enjoy going back to our hometown and visiting with the friends and family that were important in our lives. This was our little town back in the day.

OUTFITS OF THE WEEK SPLURGE & SAVE

Some of us do not have the means to spend $$$$ on clothes. Zara continually amazes me with their stylish options. This week I created a cheap chic option from Zara (except the sunnies). I love the black linen pants, the linen top, gorgeous scarf (I ordered it), the beautiful necklace, straw bag, and the great sandals.

Zara Outfit of the Week

And…this option with sale items from Eileen Fisher. Eileen Fisher has her summer sale going on right now here. I will be featuring more of those items on our travel post on Tuesday. This sale is a good one if you like Eileen Fisher.

WHAT PEOPLE WHO AGE BEAUTIFULLY HAVE IN COMMON

Love this article written by Jennifer Freed PHD for Goop. I think you will too. “When we change the conversation around “anti-aging” to an emphasis on vitality and wisdom, we incentivize and encourage the next generations of elders.”

MY FRIEND NANCY LANE

The beauty of blogging is that we meet so many kindred souls. Out of the blue many years ago I was talking about olive oil in one of my posts. Nancy sent me a bottle of her favorite. Nancy I have known each other virtually for oh so many years. She is now a rockstar designer in Texas and is blogging again.

She is uber -alented, kind, funny, real and relatable. Sound like us? You can follow her blog here, and check out her website here. I love her most recent blog post here. Nancy always keeps it real. Oh and did I mention she emailed me and said this swimsuit from Amazon rocks. She says she has it in two colors. Maybe we need to check it out!

SKINNY PESTO SAUCE

Skinny Pesto from Sweet Savory and Steph

I love pesto sauce but don’t love all the fat. I think it is just as tasty with less olive oil. This pesto recipe from Sweet Savory and Steph is very similar to my made up version. If you have extra basil in your garden this time of year, make a batch and toss it in the freezer for later.

That’s it from my desk this week. Tomorrow is supposed to cool off a bit. You could fry an egg on our patio today. Let’s pop over and visit Annie and Mary Ann and see what they were up to this week. The three of us will be back with a what to pack post on Tuesday. Thanks for being here and reading Discover the Power of Relationships, Aging Beautifully and More. If you missed any of my Sunday Faves you can find them here.

It’s pretty warm here. I’m looking forward to a family trip to the Berkeley area and then a road trip from there to our home, via Monterey and then Paso Robles this coming week.
Enjoy your class reunion. As an only child I cherish my friends, they are my extended family!
    xo,

Cindy, seriously hoping it cools off today. Happy travels to your hometown and 50th reunion. You had me counting on my fingers how many years until mine … not many! My closest friendships date from high school and it’s wonderful to have that shared history. Excited to read Nancy’s blog and already signed up for her newsletters. Love those Tutsi slides! xo

      Hi Juliet

It has been a little warm! On our way up your way today to watch Summer swim.

So looking forward to seeing you back in our hometown, for our 50 yr reunion! Safe travels!

So glad I came across your blog today. I would have missed the Eileen sale. Ordered 2 dresses 👏 Love the quality of her brand. Yes, it’s expensive even on sale, but her designs don’t age and I get many years of use out of them, Her linen in hot/humid FL makes summers more comfortable. The only frustration I have is that most of her design is very boxy and at 5’3.5” ( yup, that extra half inch meters) and 115 lbs they can overwhelm me. Thus when I find a piece or two that flatters my frame. I’m over the moon. You 3 girls are the best bloggers. I appreciate you keep it real. Looking forward to your next post.

    Cindy
    I love your posts!
Have a wonderful time at your reunion.
I had so much fun at mine 4 years ago.
    Even my husband had fun!

Cindy, I sat down to ready your blog this morning and seriously almost fell off my sofa (ok, I admit I was laying on the sofa, not sitting, ha, but its Sunday after all). Thank you for the sweet mention. I’m so thankful for all the blogging friends like you that I’ve been able to meet since I started my first blog 12 years ago. Like the article you referenced above, I absolutely believe that relationships are EVERYTHING, through every season of life but especially in the middle years and beyond. I’ve learned so much from you and Mary Ann and countless friends, some in real life and others virtually and I know my life would not be as full or my hearts as happy as it is. xoxo!!

Enjoy your 50th!! Mine is next year and I looking forward to it. The picture of the town square looks very much like a town very close to me. Any chance you’re from southern IN?

    Hi Cindy,

Have a memorable time celebrating your 50th high school reunion. It’s wonderful that you are going. I look forward to hearing about it. You know the importance of staying connected. The picture of your hometown made me smile. Those were the days. I graduated from high school in 1970 so I can relate to it. Yes I’m many years ahead of you.

I too throughly enjoyed the article written by Jennifer Freed PHD for Goop. I’m not good when loved ones and friends pass away. I learned a few things on death and how to look at it from a different angle. Thank you for sharing it. I loved it.

I hope you know how much I love you too Mary Ann! Believe me when I tell you that I’m taking notes from you and Cindy about life and travel and owning my 50s. I have younger girlfriends who are grumbling about their age but I tell them, every year, every day is a gift and how the 50s and beyond are WHERE ITS AT! Don’t get me wrong, if someone could invent a cure for the effects of gravity on a body, I’d buy it but still…I’m looking forward to every candle God will graciously give me on a cake come October!

What a great post. Love the outfits and Nancy. I checked out the swimsuit she recommended and what? a swimsuit under a hundred? Have a great time at your reunion!

Hi Cindy, In your bathing suit post you mentioned that you favor long torso suits. I found a brand that runs long in the torso and has full “butt” coverage, although it is not advertised as long torso. Have bought a few and the fit is great, also not expensive, but have worn well. The brand is Maxine of Hollywood ( I know, sounds a little tacky). It is carried by Belk online. I stumbled on my first one at TJ Maxx, but of course cannot count on them being there.
