My Five Fabulous Finds this Week

Happy Sunday everyone!  We have had a terrible week of fires here on the Central Coast.  There are three fires in our area.  The two in Monterey County alone have caused 60,000 people to be evacuated.  Thousands of homes and structures are threatened and there is very little containment.  There is a chance of more dry lightning (the source of two of the local fires) in the next couple days, so we have our fingers crossed.  Let’s keep all of those in danger in our hearts and try to have a little fun today with my five fabulous finds this week. For those of you new here, Annie from Most Lovely Things, Mary Ann from Classic Casual Home and I share five of our favorites every Sunday.

#1 Treasure Filled Home in Charleston

I am crazy about this home in Charleston that oozes #thecollectedlook in Charleston Magazine.  Dr. Melvin and Deborah Brown collected treasures from their years in the military and created an artful mix that you are going to love.

What can I say?  Is this one of the most interesting coffee tables you have ever seen?

#2 Eugenia Russel Hargrove’s Baby Boomer Post that will surprise you.

I thoroughly enjoyed this post by my friend Eugenia of The Age of Grace She talks about baby boomer recognition day. It might surprise you. You will remember I featured her way back when on Ageless Style here. Eugenia has this old Hollywood style that I love.  If you need to up your style game (don’t we all?) You will want to follow her on Instagram here

#3 My Interview on Over 50 Feeling 40

I was honored to be interviewed by Pamela Luttrell on her blog over50feeling 40 She has a series called Everyday Elegance.  I would love it if you can pop over and read it.  I know the thought of me as elegant is a bit of a stretch, but I think you might enjoy it. Pam and Jennifer from a Well Styled Life also do a weekly series that is really fun.  They take a snap of something on a mannequin and ask if you would wear it.

#4 Two Products I am Loving Right Now

When I got my nails done last week my manicurist used OPI funny bunny.  Have you tried it?  It is a really nice warm off white. You might want to give it a try if you like neutrals. Unfortunately, I am showing it to you on an old hand (mine).  It would be prettier on someone with pretty hands.

OPI FUNNY BUNNY

I have been struggling with foundation/cc cream.  I like It Cosmetics CC Cream but am finding it a little heavy this summer.  I also really like the Chanel Ultra Le Teint but  it is pricey ($50) and I can’t buy it locally. I find it really difficult to purchase a new foundation without being able to try it on.  I popped into my local Ulta and found a really good assistant. She encouraged me to try the bare minerals tinted hydrating gel cream.  I absolutely love it (so far ha ha).  It has a dewy finish that isn’t sparkly.  I still have a breakout now and again at 65+ so anything too greasy or heavy does not work for me.  This is light but has enough coverage.  The shade I purchased is ginger and it is right on. If you are looking for something light but still has enough coverage you might want to give this one a try.

#5 The Collected Look on Instagram

I checked my Instagram yesterday and noticed someone new cj_swanknewyork I often pop over and check out new feeds when I get a chance.  My heart skipped a beat when I saw this.  You might want to give her a follow if you love her style as much as I do. I hope she starts using our #thecollectedlook.

You ARE elegant, my friend. So much good info. I’d like to try that tinted moisturizer!! Off to read your feature!

  3. Sandy Hopper says

I live in San Luis Obispo County, CA. We are on the Governor’s Watch List. I thought Monterey County was, too. Therefore, I was surprised to see #4 about you getting a manicure. Please do tell as I am desperate to get a cut, color, and manicure. I would drive up for it if it is legal.

    Cindy,
Elegant is only one of the words I’d use to describe you. You always inspire and are always kind and generous of spirit. Thank you for sharing the 5 faves. I always come away with new ideas and new people to meet. 🙂
I hope your area is free from the fires. The news is so dreadful regarding the fires. Some of the areas affected have had more than they should have to endure after the past 5 years.

  5. Gail says

I always get such good tips from you Five Things you’re loving! First, I must agree that elegant is the perfect word to describe you Cindy! You always look fabulous. I have to try the Bare Essentials and the OPI Funny Bunny! Thanks for sharing fun things every week.

  6. Nan says

Cindy- we must have mind-meld… just signed into my email to write and ask if you are being affected by the fires when I saw your Sunday 5 Faves Post update. So wish you didn’t have this fire threat on top of the pandemic! You are indeed ELEGANT. After enduring a divorce 3 years ago at age 64, updating my personal style/wardrobe and new house has been so invigorating. My 11 year old Lab is the best pandemic pal and loves his bespoke bowties.

  7. DORA RENATA PALA says

    Cara Cindy
Tu Cindy carina come sempre. BUONA SETTIMANA.

Great post! For weightless light coverage, have you tried Erno Laszlo’s “Shake-It”? I’ve used it since the late ‘70’s (until they discontinued it a while ago). Now Shake-it is back-yay! It reminds you of calamine lotion. Wet a half of a cotton ball with it, rub the wet cotton ball over your face, rub it all around over your face until it stops moving and rub in around the edges. It truly gives you that “I don’t know what “, making your skin look wonderful! Water-based and comes in one color. Fabulous stuff! Used by Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Kennedy and countless others. I bet you’ll love it too! Good luck 🍀

I head a term long ago when Color me Beautiful was all the thing, “sporty natural”. I think that fits you. Elegance may be defined differently by generations. I personally think of older, formal, bridge party ladies. Nothing against bridge I used to love it.

My latest find in cosmetics is Kosas revealer concealer which I buy on Sephora. 28.00. Finally something that hides my dark circles without being heavy.

Read Baby Boomers will never again have the life they had after this virus. I’ve thought a lot about this. My companion is 76 with some medical issues. Can’t see the travel we once planned. Off subject sorry. Changing times, thankfully we can enjoy our homes.

  10. Nancy Brantley says

You are a very elegant stylish lady. I love your choice in clothing. Thanks for the mention of foundation…I can’t find anything lightweight on my sun damaged skin. I don’t like foundation to settle in my lines and be more noticeable. I’d rather not wear any but just a moisturizer. Will try the Complexion Rescue.

  11. Ginger says

    Hi Cindy,
I’m so sorry that you are in the midst of these horrific fires! Hopefully no new lightening strikes and these fires are contained soon. My heart goes out to you and your community.
I’ve read Eugenia’s blog for many years and she is definitely a smart and stylish woman! Nice to see her here again!
Good to know about Bare Minerals complextion rescue! I also found IT CC to be a little heavy and so I switched to Clinique moisture surge CC cream and I’m really liking it. It is lighter than IT CC and a little more moisturizing, which my skin can use now.
I love your style and I definitely see it as beautiful casual elegance. I read Pams lovely interview of you and was smiling the whole read!
I absolutely love the collected look you discovered! Heading over to check this out!

  12. Kathysue says

I love this series of post you do such a great job,and you are elegant in a very individual way. Love your style for you, it expresses YOU and that is what style is all about. Look forward to the next installment!

Cindy, I will be praying that you and yours remain safe during the wildfires. I read that the help has come as far as Australia for California.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mimi
It would have to get really really bad to get near us. However if we get more of that dry lightening a fire could start anywhere. Scary things happening with our climate these days. Thanks for your kind thoughts

  14. Pam says

I recently discovered Youngblood Liquid Minerals foundation and love it. For around $14 you can send for samples of all their foundations in either a warm or cool tone so that you can try them before you purchase the full size. It doesn’t take much to look wonderful on your skin, and blurs my pores and lasts all day for me. I have an oily forehead and pretty normal checks and chin. They also have a wonderful mineral primer that works well for me also. I am 72, so I feel it is good for mature skin.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Pam
I will have to check out their mineral primer. I have yet to find a good primer. Anything that blurs the pores has my attention!!

  15. Karen S Sink says

I am so sorry about the fires being in near you. I hope you and your property stay safe. I love the outfit you are wearing with the long skirt! I also can relate to the picture of the interior with the eclectic decor. I really like that look and will be adding more when we finish the basement with some of the antiques that Tim inherited from his mom. I am not really an “antique collector” but luckily some of them are Asian which is right up my alley!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Karen
It sounds like you have a fun project ahead of you. You would love that Charleston home click over it is right up your alley. Hope to see you in Monticello!

  16. Linda m says

It’s funny; the first words that come to mind when I see a picture of you is “elegant.” We often do not see ourselves as others do. As for the complexion rescue, I love it mixed with a little of the It cc cream. It’s a little more coverage, which I think the complexion rescue needs. I own the It cc cream because summer foundations that don’t melt in the heat and offer a lot of sunscreen are hard to find, but I’ve often felt it was heavy and mask like. I’m always surprised to find it on everyone’s favorites list.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Linda
I am so glad you mentioned that. I plan to try that when I want a little more coverage. I love that it has an SPF of 30. I agree the IT can be a little heavy. Thank you for the sweet comment and weighing in. You guys are the best!

  17. Sarah says

    Hello, you’re absolutely elegant!
I love Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue. I squirt a bit into my moisturizer and apply both at once. Saves time and makes application easy!
Stay safe up there! The fires are heartbreaking.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Sarah
I am really loving it too. I do the same. I am lazy when it comes to makeup application! Have a great Sunday!
