Five Tips for a Colorful & Healthy New Year

I plan to infuse more color in my wardrobe and home in the new year. I probably won’t go crazy with colors in my interiors, but I might take my pillow covers up a notch. I started Pilates last week and am loving it. Grab a cup of coffee and let’s chat about Five Tips for a Colorful & Healthy New Year.

Tip #1-Five Tips for a Colorful & Healthy New Year

Butter Wakefields London House-Go Colorful

Garden designer Butter Wakefields London house is an absolute riot of color and I LOVE it. I could never be that bold with color but I sure love it when others do it so well.

I am not sure about cooking in this beautiful kitchen, but I love the ambiance.

I think I will follow Butter’s lead and add more green in my guestroom. I like to keep my foundation pieces neutral, but I think I will add a more colorful throw to the mix!

I am pretty much obsessed with everything Butter does. I would love to interview Butter for Ageless Style. Let’s see if we have any luck!

Outfits of the Week Wear More Color

I am planning to incorporate more color in my wardrobe in the new year. Are you hoping for the same?

I am ordering the Artemis bag, and Quince’s beautiful cashmere sweater. It’s a great price and love the loose boxy style that is so flattering.

Shop Jean Outfit of the Week

In reading the surveys that I have received so far you asked for more casual wear and extended sizing. Ulla Popken has the best looking extended sizing options available in my opinion. I wish she offered regular sizing! Love all her quilted options especially this vivid green coat. I am loving the quilted crossbody from Quince (a knock off of a favorite of mine). I am also loving these green specs from Caddis. I own the Gentle Souls loafers and they are super comfy.

Eat Clean-Lemon Grove Lane January Reset Soup

Do you follow Leslie from Lemongrove Lane? She is a wonderful cook and writer. You can follow Leslie on Instagram here, and Leslie on her blog here.

I am making Leslie’s January reset soup tonight. I have a gigantic bag of kale, and this soup is right up my alley. I will add chicken to make it a heartier meal, and serve it with Ina Garten’s Honey Crisp Apple Salad.

  1. Hi. I took the time to thoughtfully complete the survey, but it will not allow “submit”. Everything is properly completed but it reverts to the “please rank page”. Very frustrated about this.

    1. Hi Max

Unfortunately, no survey is perfect. You can’t pick the same ranking for two questions. The survey will work, but you have to pick a different choice for each question. I am sorry for the inconvenience. Feel free to email me or comment her on any suggestions or changes you would like.

  2. I love the colorful home, but the kitchen seems a little much! Pretty though!! I do love the idea of adding more color—especially red ! Love your outfit of the week with the Artemis bag and shoes.
    Xx

  3. There seems to be a preponderance of very strange ads. There is a Mediterranean diet ad that is unreadable. Weird ad about butt shaper tights. Things that are not appropriate or helpful to your message or style. I ‘m sure these ads are tied to your income. There are too many and just annoying. Your readers and you deserve better.

    1. Hi Catherine

I will contact my ad rep. I am not seeing those ads. I have the lowest amount of allowable ads on my site. You may notice others have many more than I. I would not be able to afford to produce this blog without my ad income. Unfortunately, blogging has become very expensive. That is why many have gone to substack or stopped blogging altogether. You have the option of turning the ads off. You can google how to turn off ads and it will direct you. I work extremely hard on producing content that I hope will be enjoyed by all of you.

  4. Hi Cindy, filled out the survey but Question 6 is a block, no matter if I move the slider. On Submit, I am immediately taken back to 6 with the comment that I can’t fill out more than one option for coulumn. I didn’t and so I’ve given up, but I’m sure whatever you do will be fine, although me being me, I guess I’d like more emphasis on life’s philosophies. Ultimately we all have to let go of having more and trying to look better and do more of giving to have a healthier and happier life. I’m sure in California there are quite a few eminent folk who have just the right attitudes and it would be refreshing to hear from them.
One question: if you had a cream room with a navy blue textured couch and club chairs, what coloured cushions would you use? I’m a blue person and like tranquil settings. Currently I have taupe linen, hand embroidered cushions and with cream and taupe wildly textured cushions for contrast. I don’t want any bright primaries. I’m an inegnue with styling and admire your styles so if you feel you can, let me know.
Best for 2025 and can I say how I love the red clothing? Beautiful!

  5. All the best to you in 2025! I love all the greens in Butter Wakefield’s home. Upon your recommendation I am now a fan of Quince cashmere and Gentle Souls. Thank you for your styling tips.

    1. Hi Diane

Quince does such a great job and I do not own a pair of Gentle Souls that aren’t comfortable. So glad you agree!

  6. Hi Cindy,
Happy new year! I love the designer you featured, that home is so colorful and lovely. But the kitchen makes no sense to me, at least not to be used as a kitchen lol! It sure looks pretty though.
I plan to incorporate a little bit of pink into my decor this winter, as a way to reflect my life’s change. We’ll see how it goes! It’s a complete departure from my normal color schemes. I have white or neutrals as a base, and pile color on top of that, usually greens, blues, yellow -depends on the season.
I feel like I slacked off last year with my reading. I keep a list and I finished 50 books, the year before I finished 66. So I want to get back into that a little bit more. I leave the library every couple of weeks with big stack of books in my arms! It’s definitely one of my happy places!
You know I am always inspired by your outfits, you wear everything really well and give me lots of ideas.
Thanks for your thoughtful and interesting posts. I’m looking forward to more!
    Xo Heidi

    1. Heidi you are the best! I think of you when I look at the beautiful watercolors next to my grandfather clock, and every year on my Christmas tree! You need to come down and visit!!

  7. I’m loving the multi-colored scarf from Etsy in the above post BUT I need to know the name of the colorway so I can order the one you show! The website is confusing…
    Thanks,
    Louise Perry

    1. Hi Mary

Check out my illustration and note the gray slider bar at the bottom of the questions. I you slide it, you will see the 7th option. I am sorry it is confusing

  8. Happy new year, Cindy. I went to fill out your survey, but I closed the page immediately because I boycott Google, a company that censors information and violates privacy.

    1. Hi Cara

You can send me an email cynthiahattersley@gmail or comment in the comment section. I previously used mailchimp for my survey, but the Google one is easier.

  9. I love the green Butter Wakefield uses in her home. Lovely. Several of the Oprah books sound like ones I would read. Thanks for sharing.

  10. Hi Cindy: I love your posts and appreciate how you try to offer a variety of content. I tried to answer the survey but for some reason the little highlight button would not move. Its probably me, lol. So a few thoughts since you asked… Fashion is my favorite, don’t entertain a lot so not much interest there do enjoy seeing your beautiful tables on occaision and like the recipes. I also like your interviews with interesting people in your life. Being introduced to new people with refreshing and positive ideas is a good way to expand my perspectives. No interest in Oprah, more interested in what your followers are reading and why. I also enjoy your interior posts. I would also like to see more gardens for ideas and where to find some interesting garden pieces. Loved the colorful interiors in this post. While I like calm and serenity in my home, I also love looking at homes with all the layered stuff. Its just not in my DNA or in my dusting schedule, but I appreciate it. Especially that kitchen you showed. Not sure how they cook though, lol. Happy New Year Cindy, you are appreciated.

    1. Hi Barbara

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. More gardens coming up in the Spring!! I promise!

  11. Hi Cindy,
Happy 2025! I am reading so much using my Libby app which saves storage space as we have books everywhere. Also loving your color choices! I bought a beautiful Ralph Lauren wool sweater from Ebay – l love his red so rich- and l am loving it right now with my Madewell jeans in the sale. Thank you for the soup recipe!

    1. Hi Francesca

I love buying secondhand especially when you are patient to wait for what you really want like good old Ralph anything!!

  12. Cindy, inspiring post! Love the recipes! Can’t wait to make the Jan reset soup. And the sweater and jeans are right up my alley! And I started adding more color to my home about 9-10 years ago. I love Butters home but you are right! No way I could keep that kitchen clean! I am a blue person but I get in the mood for bright colors- red especially. Hmm, what does that signify? Happy New Year !

    1. Hi Marcia

Doesn’t that soup sound amazing? I am totally with you about color…I have done more colorful interiors in my home in the past but tired of them. I do plan to amp up my color game a bit this year. I feel this will be our last home…next probably a condo near our children!

  13. Hi Cindy!
Since retiring over a year ago I have been reading at least a book a week and loving it! Never was able to read as much while working. My husband works from home but we set aside a couple of hours in the afternoon before dinner to sit and read together. I will also be trying Pilates this year to see what I think as I want to include it with my walking and strength. Absolutely love the boxy Cashmere sweater from Quince and would love to see more boxy styles.
Look forward to your posts each week.
    Cheers from Ojai, California!

    1. Hi Dani

You are right down the road from me….ha ha…I liked Pilates. I need to add strength training too that is next!! I really like a boxy sweater that isn’t too boxy!

  14. I always love your sense of style in both fashion and decorating. Today you mentioned the Artemis bag. I can’t seem to find a link. I’ve been looking for a bag like that forever! Thank you.

  15. Something I should have added to comments in your survey: hopefully extended styles include petites.

    1. Hi Karlie

I will work on that one!! I can be a petite on the bottom but not on the top since I am long waisted.

  16. Dear Cindy!I absolutely love the outfit if the week! Every piece is perfect – it defines classy casual. You can replicate with other colors. Have a wonderful week! Anna

  17. This shows more can be more IF displayed properly. Love the rooms you showed on this post.

    1. Exactly Judy..I was at one point in my life a more is more person…but I have scaled it back a bit. I still admire those that can pull it off. It is easy to be a minimalist…more is more really requires skill

  18. Tried your survey but the ranked choice wouldn’t work. I see all seven topics but you only have 6 rankings and it won’t let me submit if 2 have the same ranking.

  19. Good idea to read for more fun! I’m going to too. Love all the color here! So happy.

  20. I remember that piece in Flower mag – love her flower arrangements – I like mine “hairy” as well!
I am already very colorful, as is my home. So good to go there! Love pattern and color.
I am also reading a lot. I passed my reading goal of 24 books in 2024…I read at night before bed and it puts me to sleep. I have some great recs if you need some!
You will love pilates – I am doing yoga on the living room floor for now. 😜

    1. OMG am I going to have to compete with that reading goal for us to continue being twins? Oh whoops and yoga on the living room floor? I am tired already..
