Five Favorite Finds on My Radar this Week

Happy Sunday Everyone and welcome to Five Favorite Finds on My Radar this week. Annie, Mary Ann and I are hoping this series will provide a little diversion during these trying times.  Here is what caught my eye this week.

#1-John Robshaw’s Blog

Doesn’t this outdoor dining space just scream The Collected Look?  You can see more of John’s beautiful Connecticut home on his blog here.

Speaking of the collected look, are you following our #thecollectedlook hashtag on Instagram? If not why not join the fun.

#2 Refreshing Lime Cilantro Coleslaw

We had our kids over for dinner last night and I attempted to make Indiana Breaded Tenderloins.  That one needs a little more work but I accompanied it with this lime cilantro coleslaw from Gimme Some Oven.  It is really refreshing and weight watchers friendly. I used bagged coleslaw, and added a carrot and yellow pepper. Instead of mayo, it is made with yogurt.  I used non-fat.

#3 1010 Park Place Blog

My friend Brenda from 1010 Park Place wrote a poignant blog post this week.  Brenda is writing her memoir and we all can’t wait for it to come out!

I featured Brenda on Ageless Style back in 2018. How time flies.  You might enjoy reading that post here.

#4 Cheap Chic Summer Fashion

I showed you this dress a few weeks ago when I ordered it.  I don’t know about you but I am only wearing these kinds of things right now. It is half off at J Crew. The black is sold out but they have a pretty bright pink and periwinkle version.  I am tempted to order both!! For $30 you can hardly go wrong.  J Crew is having a huge sale right now.

The hat (I love by the way) is a cotton rope version from Target! It is $19.99 and packable (not that we are going anywhere), but when we can. I am wearing my favorite Olukai flip flops that I have been living in. The earrings are old but Etsy has a similar pair here Did you notice who photo bombed the picture?

#5 Netflix and Amazon

We are watching Bloodline. It’s filled with seasoned actors, including Sissy Spacek, Kyle Chandler, Beau Bridges, and more.  It takes place in the Florida Keys which makes it even more fun to watch. What are you watching that you love?  We need suggestions!

Five Favorite Finds on My Radar this Week

That wraps up my Five Favorite Finds on My Radar This Week.  How are things in your neck of the woods?  Has anyone been bold enough to travel anywhere?  We may have to travel for business and are not looking forward to it at all.  I would love to hear your thoughts.  Have a great Sunday in spite of all that is going on.  Keep your chins up, we can do this. I am heading out to the garden.  It is the best therapy.

Great series! I really appreciate the blog and TV series suggestions. Thanks for the heads up on Brenda’s new post. I’ve missed her blog as she’s taken time to write her memoir. Count me as one of those anxiously awaiting it’s publication! xo

      Hi Juliet

I love all the netflix & prime suggestions. It is so easy to get in a rut! Brenda is such a good writer. I envy her for that and can’t wait for memoir!!

  2. Jenna says

Great post! I love your blog! Cute dress too by the way 😊
We actually are traveling up to Portland, OR for a week so we’ll see how it goes! I’m not looking forward to the travel either, but it’s supposed to be pretty empty at the airports so that helps! Outdoors is the best medicine so a week away in the forest should be worth the hassle!

    Thanks for sharing!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Jenna!

My daughter’s name is Jenna. I am anxious to hear how your travel goes. My cousin just returned from a trip and said she felt the absolute safest in the airports and on the planes. Let’s cross our fingers!!

  3. Linda Henderson says

I love your blog. The dress, hat, and shoes are cute. BTW, your hair is great. Thanks also for the photobombing dog. The best show we have been watching is Perry Mason, the 2020 version, on HBO. So good!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Linda
Thank you for the comment on my hair. Going gray was the right decision for me. It’s been almost eight years I think! Perry Mason love it-will check it out Linda!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Pam
I hear you about sleeves. I think the only reason the Target dress works is because it cuts in at the shoulders which draws the eye up and away from the bingo arms! I never wear sleeveless but I am enjoying that one at the lake! The beauty of the J Crew is it is more versatile! One reader said she bought both the blue and the bright pink. You might give them a try.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Elizabeth
Indiana Tenderloins are sort of the Chick Fil A of the midwest! You butterfly and pound out a l” tenderloin slice, bread and fry! I will check out Sweet Magnolias.

  5. Linda says

Lovely post, as always. I was delighted to see the recipe link to Gimme Some Oven. Ali from GSO is my daughter, so of course her blog is my favorite food blog. I am always telling her about the “mature” bloggers that I follow and how they add fun and inspiration to my life. It’s nice to see a link between you two. If you’re ever in Barcelona (not likely, because they won’t let Americans in right now!), you can check out Ali and Barclay’s little corner of the world. Thanks for all you do – I know blogging is WAY MORE work than it seems!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Linda
Love GSO. There are a handful of recipe blogs that the recipes are always good and GSO is right at the top!! Congrats to your daughter for doing such a great job! You must be so proud! Lucky dogs to live in Barcelona!!

  6. Karen B. says

    Hi Cindy,
What fun. I love these posts and have picked up several tips from you, Annie and Mary Ann , so thank you.
We have watched a lot of series this “time at home”. Broadchurch was one we liked…a good murder mystery series. I had to watch Ozark but I could only take one episode per day. Haha. There are a few on Acorn and Brittbox that we enjoyed, but I recognize that not everyone subscribes to. I’ll have a look at Bloodline, it looks interesting.
    Karen

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Karen

I need to give Broadchurch another try. Some of the best are hard to get into. Yes Ozark was dark and Bloodline is too. But it does kind of grab you by the throat. We do not subscribe to Britbox but I have heard such good things!

  7. annie says

Cindy! I always love your finds! You have the best eye! I’m curious about those Indiana breaded tenderloins! I’m making the slaw this week! Love your dress and hat too! Interesting to read your comments about what to watch…Have not watched Bloodline…half way through Succession.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Okay Succession added to list! Apparently breaded tenderloins only exist in Indiana and Iowa. We grew up on them. My mother was not a good cook, but one could always find a good breaded tenderloin somewhere!!

  8. Pam says

Love the black dress so much more then Target’s because it has sleeves. Sorry I missed it.
As for traveling we just flew to Orlando and back yesterday for our granddaughter’s graduation. Wonderful to get away and there were no issues. Southwest employees all had on masks. We did too of course. Oh and took a road trip in June for our 50th anniversary! And our church services resumed 4 weeks ago! Just wear a mask and please don’t be afraid.

  9. SUSAN NELSON says

Five Favorite Finds is quickly becoming an enjoyable part of Sunday afternoon (or Monday afternoon) for me! Love your blog, Cindy.
I have a wonderful Netflix suggestion for everyone in search of something new with several (7) seasons to watch. It’s an Australian series called Offspring and follows a middle class family; the parents are once upon a time hippies, the adult children are finding spouses and grandchildren are arriving. Lots and lots of great characters. I had a little trouble getting into it at first but it was so highly recommended to me I stick with it. So glad I did! Enjoy!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Susan
Offspring sounds wonderful. I keep searching for something relaxing and uplifting! We may need to invest in Britbox. I find if you want the real news watch the BBC

  10. Linda L says

I stopped watching Bloodline after about 6 episodes. The story includes so much cruelty and violence in one family I found it so depressing to watch. Last night I found Doctor Thorne, a Julian Fellows work, on Amazon. A subdued English drama is perfect for me. One really needs to sift through the junk on Netflix and Amazon these days.

    • Mellissa says

I agree! We’ve just been so turned off by the yuckiness on display. I don’t know what is worse – the character’s lives, or the fact that people are finding it entertaining to watch. We’ve been on BritBox and did Morse, Lewis, (of course, Endeavor – the best!), Father Brown (good to fall asleep to), and Death in Paradise. We’ve watched a few movies, but I can’t think of them right now. Mostly we’ve been reading…

      • Cindy Hattersley says

        Hi Melissa
I am going to add Father Brown to my sleeping list!! I seriously need to get brit box! Thanks for weighing in!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Linda
You are right on. Most of these shows bloodline included start out wonderfully written and acted and they they go awry. I don’t know why they need to get so violent. Maybe they drag them out for too many seasons?

  11. Michele Hall says

We are enjoying McCleod’s Daughters. Takes place on a huge cattle and sheep station in Australia. Yikes 9 seasons. It will take us through to the holidays!

  12. home before dark says

That old Beau knows when the camera is pointed in his direction! So fun. You look fabulous. I think the coleslaw sounds refreshing. As for traveling, we are not. I’m not even traveling to the grocery store and have not since early March. Kansas, like California, is among the 18 states that have been identified as needed to go back to Phase I!!!! From what I am reading, it may be 2022 before we reach some reliable stability. I keep telling myself, it’s a marathon not a sprint and try to adjust my expectations. I think false hope is worst than accepting a long-term reality. The good news: in my fridge I have everything I need to make your coleslaw…right now!! Sorry to hear about the tendeloin sandwich not ready for prime time. I looked them up, sounds yummy!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Patricia
Things here are actually improving once again. I have read the same, disconcerting I have to admit. I try to be an optimistic realist. Is that possible? The tenderloin was good I am not good at frying anything. We rarely eat fried food. I don’t own an air fried but I wonder if they would work prepared that way? I think next time we need to pound them thinner. I am not giving up! The coleslaw is a keeper!

  13. Marcie says

Love the dress and hat! It would be perfect for a trip to the Keys! Glad you are enjoying Bloodline. We have a spot in the Keys and many of our favorite places are on the show each week! It really is that beautiful and I think the Inn that Sissy Soacek runs is gorgeous! I may have to rewatch now that we’ve chatted about it and I’m in need of something to watch. I’m watching Death in Paradise on Brit Box thru Amazon. It’s good and the tropical location is gorgeous. I’m from Charleston so I loved the scenery in Outer Banks (filmed in SC but the story is set in NC!)

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Marcie I would love to hear more about the Keys. We traveled to Florida a lot during our childhood, but I have only been back once since and never the Keys. I have a good friend who lives there and would love to visit sometime when we can travel once again. Charleston is also one of my favorite cities! Thanks for the suggestions!

  14. Jannie says

Love all the comfort looks! Back East it has been unbelievably hot…not warm hot…in the 90s for the Pittsburgh PA area. Live in shorts and tees or comfy dresses like the tees. By the way just found an amazing new polish by Essie called TLC and comes in pale shades. But here is the bonus it has base and top coat and on me it lasts for almost two weeks. On me it does not chip or peel…guess it fits my chemistry. Wondered if anyone else has tried it. Thank you for all the good suggestions!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Thank you Janine for the nail polish tip!! I am going to check it out. It sounds like nail and hair can operate outside here now…visions of people getting their nails and hair done outside is kind of comical. These are strange times indeed.

  15. Francesca B. says

    Hi Cindy,
Love your blog and your instagram thank you for the visual feast! I lived in Australia for a while for work and I am watching the series “The Heart Guy” and “The Place Called Home” for gorgeous landscapes and I love a aussie drama. “Shetland” for landscapes too. The “Outsider” for Ben Mendleson and Nicola Walker in “Last Tango in Halifax” and “Unforgotten”. “Harlots” and “Mum” are wonderful too and they both have the brilliant Leslie Manville. My husband loved “The Dark.”
We are not going anywhere and we are stuck for a while so I am trying to keep sane by reading a ton with my Libby app.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Thank you thank you thank you Francesca! I am adding your suggestions to my list. I wondered about Last Tango in Halifax and The Place called Home. I can’t wait to check them out. We aren’t going anywhere either!

  16. Penny Nelson says

Hi, Cindy. Love following you and your blogger friends. We’re watching Yellowstone on AZ.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Penny
I watched Yellowstone last season and loved it! We need to get finished with Bloodline so we can watch! Thanks for reminding me Penny!!

  17. classic casual home says

That dress is so CUTE on you. I like the length for comfort. I have a few from the Gap that go to my knees (and they are getting pretty washed out). Can’t wait to try your cole slaw!
    Mary Ann

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mary Ann
I do not have pretty legs like you! The longer the better on this old bag!!

  18. nancyO. says

    Hi, Cindy,
I’m smiling because I ordered the J Crew dress in both the pink and blue and have had one or the other of them on daily! They are a soft cotton knit and very comfortable. I did order up a size for extra comfort and am happy with the looser fit.

Your blog is a favorite and I check your Intstagram daily. Thank you for sharing your gardens, decorating expertise, and inspiring fashion ideas.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Nancy
I am so happy to hear you liked the dress. Aren’t they the best? Which color is your favorite? Thank you ao much for always being so supportive! I so appreciate it!
