The Importance of Texture in your Home and Wardrobe & More

Do you favor texture over color in your wardrobe or your home? Today let’s chat about the importance of texture in your home and wardrobe and why it works. Let’s join Annie and Mary Ann for our Sunday faves and dive right into The Importance of Texture in your Home and Wardrobe & More.

The Importance of Texture in your Home and Wardrobe

Texture plays an important role in both home design and fashion, adding depth, interest, and a sense of warmth to any space or outfit. In the home, layering different textures—like linens, woven baskets & shades, rustic metals, and vintage woods create a rich, inviting atmosphere that feels curated and lived-in. Similarly, in fashion, mixing textures like linen, and cotton in spring and summer with rattan and bone accessories brings dimension and sophistication to an ensemble. Whether you are decorating a room or styling an outfit, incorporating a variety of textures elevates the overall aesthetic, making it more visually appealing.

Beth Webb’s Embracing Beauty

I just received Beth Webb’s beautiful new book Embracing Beauty, and I am happy to say it does not disappoint. Beth masterfully blends old and new, with a keen focus on texture, art, and organic neutrals.

The book features Beth’s homes in Atlanta and Bray’s Island as well as collaborations she has done with some of my favorite architects, Jeffrey Dungan, Stanley Dixon and more. Even if you love a more colorful home, there’s much to learn from Beth’s expert use of texture.

Outfit of the Week

I was going to try and keep my outfit of the week to one , but I am a sucker for the versatility of black and white in my wardrobe. I can’t wait for summer, how about you? I am ordering a few of the options below.

I spotted this fabulous Mango dress (at a good price point) on Nordstrom’s site, and immediately craved the dog days of Summer by the pool. I think Beth might embrace this outfit as well. If you are going to invest in a good hat, purchase from someone who specializes in hats. I am going to invest in this HK one in black this summer. I have had her hats for years.

Outfit of the Week Banana Republic Linen Separats

I ordered these two pieces from Banana Republic with the cut out details. This combo is right up my alley. It also comes in white and mustard I believe. The sandals are on sale at Johnny Was, and the sunnies are from Caddis.

OUtfit of the Week J Jill & Banana Republic

Love this sweater from J Jill and it is on sale! I am a big fan of loose weave sweaters for late Spring and Summer.

I am not much of a ruffle and bow girl, but this darling embroidered gingham top from Anthro has my heart!

Jamie Oliver’s Wild Paparadelle

We had left over etto fettucini pasta (lucky us) so I made a variation of Jamie Oliver’s Wild Paparadelle with fettuccini (I prefer paparadelle). Do you think Beth might serve this simple pasta at one of her dinner parties?

Jamie Oliver's Wild Mushroom Paparadelle

This dish is more flavorful with wild mushrooms, but if you don’t have wild (I didn’t) make sure to add the truffle oil and truffle salt for flavor.

Wild Mushroom Paparadelle

Servings 4

Ingredients

  • 14 ounces mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon truffle oil
  • 1 clove of garlic finely chopped
  • pinch red pepper flakes
  • truffle salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 pound pappardelle
  • a small handful of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 handfull of fresh flat-leaf parsley roughly chopped
  • 2 ounces unsalted butter

Instructions

  • Brush off any dirt from the mushrooms with a pastry brush or a dish towel. Slice the mushrooms thinly, but tear girolles, chanterelles and blewits in half. Put the olive oil in a very hot frying pan and add the mushrooms. Let them fry fast, tossing once or twice, then add the garlic and chili with a pinch of truffle salt (it is very important to season mushrooms lightly, as a little really brings out the flavor). Continue to fry fast for 4-5 minutes, tossing regularly. Then turn the heat off and squeeze in the lemon juice. Toss and season to taste.
  • Meanwhile cook the pasta in boiling salted water until al dente. Add to the mushrooms, with the Parmesan, parsley and butter. Toss gently, coating the pasta with the mushrooms and their flavor. Serve, scraping out all of the last bits of mushroom from the pan, and sprinkle with a little extra parsley and Parmesan.

    1. Hi Eileen

I have not heard of her. I will look her up. I always have my hair down unless I am wearing a hat. It is too short to pull back!!

    1. Hi Kathy

I checked and it says cleaned I will send you a screenshot. I am switching email providers in the next couple of weeks. For some reason this is an issue with mailchimp and comcast. Comcast has some sort of firewall that doesn’t always allow mailchimp to be delivered. We will be sending out an email to all 20K plus email subscribers at that time, which includes people like you.

  7. Hi Cindy,
Beautiful clothing ideas. We have the same laid back roomy comfortable way of dressing. Wow, advanced age sure changed all that for me. It’s all very good.
I have a gourmet foodie oil question for you? What brand of Truffle oil do you use and recommend please? Also do you use the Truffle oil often. Believe it or not, I have never used it. I do buy good oil.
    Thank you for your input.

    1. Hi Katherine

I usually buy mine at Trader Joes. I use truffle oil (a little goes a long way) on Pizza, sometimes in eggs if I add mushrooms, and many others that I can’t seem to think of right now. I absolutely adore mushrooms.

  8. That dish looks yummy! It certainly looks like arugula on top, though but not mentioned in the recipe!

Thanks for all your hard work!

    1. Hi Cara
I am addicted to Arugula! I put it on pizza, pasta…you name it! I did add arugula, but the recipe (Tyler’s original recipe) does not call for it. Good eye!! I know some people do not care for it.

  9. Your outfits are AMAZING. And I love my Beth Webb book…thank you. It’s one that I will pick up again and again.

  10. Love this post Cindy. The embroidered top is darling. Where is the bag from? Didn’t see a link – love that too. Happy Sunday – I hope it’s warmer in CA than here!!! 🥶
