Have you Made a Pumpkin Spice Latte Cake?

If you have been reading this blog long you know I am not much of a baker, though I do love to cook. Apparently Pumpkin Spice Latte cakes are all the rage. Have you made one?

Stupid Things I Won’t do When I Get Old

I have read several excerpts from Stupid Things I Won’t do When I Get Old, and I finally decided to read it for myself. It is an honest funny guide to well “stupid things we don’t want to do when we get old”.

Outfit of the Week

outfit of the week

I stumbled on this great skirt from Sanctuary, and thought Quince’s new better than ever cashmere sweater (I brought one home from LTK) would be perfect with it, along with a quilted “barn” jacket from J Crew Factory. The jacket also comes in blue. The boots are also on sale at Gentle Souls. The crossbody is on my list and I love the convertible tote for travel.

  1. I’m obsessed with olive green of late. And I am absolutely not a baker, but I made the Latte Cake using the In Bloom Bakery recipe. It was To. Die. For. Not overtly pumpkin-y, but definitely Fall spices. Next time I will up the espresso in the recipe! Easy too!

  2. Cindy! That pumpkin spice cake is gorgeous. I do not know about that book, but now I must get it!
Animal print is big again this year! I saw it all over Paris! Love it with olive green!

  3. So lucky to have your sweet grand daughter for a few days. Aren’t they fun? I love to hear the opinions and observations…the two year old screaming ‘ my hair, my hair’ as her father was walking her into the ocean!!! We had our three (6,4,2) visit our East coast home for a week in August before their school/preschool started. So much fun..but we miss them so time to close up and husband having cataract surgery in November..time to put away the beach chairs for another year and head home. Birthday season for us starts in October until January, can’t miss that!
Excited for what you come up with for next week. My winter colouring loves cool scarlet red but also a blue-ish deep berry ( impossible to find!
I can never thank you enough for turning me on to Bloomingdale’s cashmere! There are always so many beautiful colours on offer the quality/price is not bad either. The sweaters are lighter so wearable under a jacket.

  4. Hello Cindy! Pumpkin Latte Cake?! I guess I’m out of the loop so thanks for brining me up to speed. Looks delish in all its variations. I just download that book, although I’m sure I do none of those stupid things. 😉 You’re outfit of the week is perfection … I’m so ready to pull out my Quince cashmere. xo

  5. Summer looks like she is having a blast and so tall. You are very generous in regards to finding colours that readers are looking for.

  6. I’ve bookmarked that book – although I wonder, if at 73, I may have already blundered through the mine-field. Nevertheless, I made a list five years ago of things I promised I would do/not do and signed it and gave a copy to each of my adult children. It was inspired by my own Mum’s intransigence to use any aid/help at all as she aged. To our despair.
As for colours, I pick my colours from any garments I might like to wear. I have a ‘basic colours’ wardrobe (camel, dark greys, navy) and to that I’ll add all shades of blues that suit, whites, orange-reds. I have a great supply of colourful scarves – both longs and squares and build colour into my wardrobe by buying vintage scarves. There’s a green that I might wear in a pinch – it was modelled by Stacie Flinner not long ago in a broderie dress/shirt. But I generally avoid greens (I can hear my mother saying ‘Green for grief!’)
I think the thing with the clothes you pick, Cindy, it’s the style we can relate to. Then it’s up to us to seek out the colours that would best suit. If you were to provide links to suit us all, you’d never have time to breathe!
    Onward by all means…

    1. Prue you are a girl after my own heart. Yes we have blundered through many but the book has great reminders of those we haven’t. I think you would get a kick out of it. I am guilty of featuring colors that suit me, but alas you are right. Hopefully I provide the style you all enjoy. I can’t wear many colors that would flatter many of you , but I can feature them in the outfits of the week so just give me a shout out. I will do my best! fyi thank you for being you….

  7. I, for one, am excited that the autumn colors have returned! I get many more compliments when I am wearing colors that complement my hair, skin, eyes and freckles, lol. I love reading your blog Cindy!

  8. Hi Cindy,
Lovely picture of you and Jennifer at the LK conference that made me smile!!
How tall Summer is getting and how wonderful you had her over, l cannot wait for grandkids!
    Happy week,

    1. Hi Francesca
The lady that took our picture failed to tell me that my hair was in my face! Otherwise it would have been a good one!

  9. I just put in an order for 2 copies of the book, I need one for myself as well as a gift, thanks for the introduction. Looks like Summer is really getting tall, so nice to spend time before school get busy.

  10. Good morning Cindy.
While I love most of your outfits of the week I look just awful in these green and earth colors. And guess what ? Every store is featuring them.!!! Why do fashion and clothing manufacturers belt out these colors every fall when most of us look sallow in them? Those with a summer or winter palette are trying to find something to buy in a transitional weight but are faced with almost no choices ? Choosing to have a core wardrobe means sticking to basics in colors that work for your skin tone and your accent color(s). I don’t want to wait a year or two for my colors to come around again. My guess is they could sell more if they stopped this annual deluge of autumn colors. What are your thoughts on this?

      1. Hi Judy
Ditto my answer for Leslie. Put in a shout out for colors you would like to see featured and I will work on it for next week! I understand what you are saying…when I see jewel tones I cringe because for the most part they look awful on me as well. I saw something fabulous in a grass green. I will feature that next week if anyone can wear it. Please put in a request. I am always happy to oblige even if they don’t look good on me! Next week I will be featuring a pretty red sweater on my Instagram feed in a sponsored post.

    1. Hi Leslie
I totally understand. Olive green happens to be one of my favorites. Brown is not one of my better colors, but I know many love them. The Quince sweater comes in many colors. What colors would you like to see featured and I will work on it next week!! I am seeing a lot of jewel tones (which of course look awful on me other than purple). FYI purple and lavender are always very difficult to find as well. There is a profusion of reds as well. Give me a request and I will act on it!! I always love a challenge.

      1. Well Red is my number one choice. A cool red. Strong red. I know it’s supposed to be in right now but none around here. I look great in red, cobalt blue, ultramarine, purple, white, black away from face and pearl gray. Red plaids are good but not warm orange shades. And no green. No brown or chocolate. Basically most jewel tones. And what to wear to my high school reunion!!!

        1. Leslie, it sounds like our coloring is the same. I was once told that people are not attracted to colors we don’t look good in. Overall, I think that is true for me, but the exception is olive green. I love it in the summer with black and white and in the fall with maybe cognac shoes and bag. But the trick for me is to keep the olive away from my face. Right now I have a pair of olive cargo pants that I’m loving.
