Ageless Style-Linda V Wright

If you are new here, welcome to Ageless Style-Linda V Wright. Each month Elizabeth (the Vintage Contessa) and I interview someone over 50 we feel has great style. The darling gray haired cutie that I was going to interview this month wasn’t quite ready so I am revisiting the post on the woman that inspired this ageless style series back in 2015 Linda V Wright.  Linda hails from Central Texas, lives in Paris, and is the owner of the much loved Crimson Cashmere boutique featuring many of her own designs.

Linda says her heart is still in Texas but “in the summer of 1978, I packed my boots and boarded a plane for Paris, France. A simple case of wanderlust and a curiosity for a new way of living would be the best explanation for such a move. I thought to stay three months, but alas for better and some intermittent moments for the worse…the love affair continues”.  She was once a model and had a stint with Ralph Lauren who influenced her classic no-nonsense style.

You will often find Linda dressed simply in a beautiful monogrammed white shirt (from her boutique), her signature jeans, and simple accessories.

“The ladies that I admire the most in the way they dress are the ladies who ARE polished and totally own their style. They were born with it….money does not buy it. I do feel that a step in the right direction is owning a few quality classic pieces”. Linda Wright

Love how she paired this indigo batik jacket with the plaid scarf and ethnic earrings a bolder than usual combination for her.

“I like to think I am giving women of a certain age some ideas for dressing and remaining themselves in the face of fashion which is eternally changing”. Linda Wright

I could never pull off these patterned pants but they look fabulous on her, don’t they?

As posted before, once I let my hair go gray, I found that suddenly some colors that I never wore worked and that some of my favorites were no longer flattering. One of the colors I was shying away from appears to be a favorite of hers the chartreusey green or mustard.  After seeing her wear it so confidently I am beginning to have the courage to wear it again.

“My personal experience has been that as I  become older, certain colors lose their charm and other colors look reborn. “ linda wright

In the summer you will find her in her favorite sandals.

Looking at her photos over the years has made me think about what really defines style and what makes a woman stylish? Her older photos on Instagram have the same timeless quality as the newer ones only the photography is better.

Stylish women know the right time to embrace trends.  They know that confidence is their best accessory.

They spend their money on fashion staples that stand the test of time like a great trench, a fabulous pair of jeans, or a luxurious cashmere sweater.

Stylish women dress with individuality and personality, are consistent in their style, but aren’t afraid of a little adventure.

Stylish women have a branded look that is all their own.

They usually have a signature accessory that is their go-to with almost every outfit, but confidence is their best accessory.

Your Ageless Style feature with the Contessa is wonderful because it is inspirational… it is exactly, precisely perfect for women ‘of a certain age.’ Linda is so naturally beautiful and embraces her age…I do think what comes through is her confidence, a quality that is important in all aspects of life. I always look forward to your posts… filled with beauty and interesting tips and recipes and gorgeous home decor… simple, sophisticated chicness (if that is a word : )

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi DA

Thank you so much for your support. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it!!

  3. Karen Bunch says

    Cindy,
I love Linda Wright and have followed her for a few years. I was disappointed when her blog stopped being updated but she’s back and she is my idea of a woman of style. I love the simplicity and classic look of the outfits she wears.
    Thanks for this interview.

Cindy, I have always admired Linda and I love the story about her. I didn’t know she was from Texas. She makes her age look chic and young. Love the mix of jeans and sweaters and scarves, pearls, etc. That chartreuse sweater is TDF!! Thank you for this great series and always a reminder to have fun with your clothes, and have confidence at every stage of our lives!! xo Kim

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Doesn’t she rock the chartreuse? I love it! She is truly an inspiration to us all.

  5. Taste of France says

When you asked what makes a woman stylish, the word that popped into my mind after seeing all these photos was “confidence.” Then I scrolled farther and that’s the first thing in the box of 8 traits. Totally on the same page. Linda Wright doesn’t try too hard to look pretty (not the same as beautiful, which she certainly is), but she chooses shapes, colors and textures that are interesting.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

I love that comment. ” She never looks like she is trying too hard” At our age that is something we should always remember! Thanks for always sharing your wisdom so well!

  6. Leslie Lord says

I am a fan of Linda too! I love her style and she knows what suits her. I follow her on Instagram and enjoy reading her detailed posts.
Thank you for sharing these fabulous photos of her outfits.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Leslie

Another great comment. “She knows what suits her” It sounds so simple but it isn’t always is it? Thanks for weighing in!

  7. Judy says

Linda is such a beautiful …TALL woman. I agree with Shari Goodman…what about us shorties? I am 70 years old. I have tried to look my best and up to date over all the years. I am happy to say, I am blessed to have wonderful skin but I do wear make up. I have a decent shape and love my salt and pepper gray hair. I see these gorgeous outfits but so many would overwhelm my barely 5′ 2″ frame. I’d love to wear something like the over sized mustard colored sweater, but i’d drown in it. Help! How about some fashions for us?

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Judy
I am 5’4. I agree that I may not be able to wear all of these looks although many of her simple outfits can be worn by anyone of any height. I never think of her as tall. It would be interesting to know what her height is. People often think I am tall because they see me standing next to my friend Mary Ann of Classic Casual Home. I am long waisted and short legged, another issue to deal with!

  8. Kimberly says

I have been stalking Linda on pinterest for years! I did not know she is from Texas! I love her style. I am not tall like she is but am inspired by her greatly. Wonderful feature. So glad I stopped by!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

I have been one of her stalkers as well. Love her style. I always learn something from her.

  9. Juliet says

Cindy – In 2015 I wasn’t aware of this series so Linda is new to me! I love her advice to spend on timeless staples and owning fewer, but high quality pieces. Her style is classic, timeless and so chic. Slinking off to my closet to do some weeding. xo

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Juliet
Elizabeth and I did our first post together on Ageless Style back in April of 2017. I got the idea when I did the post on Linda back in 2015 when I did the post on Linda. Thank you for always being so supportive of Ageless Style. Elizabeth and I so enjoy doing it! You guys make it all worthwhile!!

  10. Karen says

This post was fabulous, Cindy. I really admire that gal on multiple levels…thank you!!!
Elizabeth, her shop is in the 8th Arron. A little trick: you can identify the Arron. by the last 2 numbers in the zip code. I fell in love with Paris last October — I could live there easily…who knows, maybe someday I will!!!

  11. sandra Sallin - Apart From My Art says

She is fabulous. I featured her on my latest blog post about Accessories. Did you notice the detail on that White shirt? The way she wears a poncho around her neck like a scarf? I think her jean are from Dior. Who else wears jeans from Dior? Well, let’s put it this way, I don’t. Her look is so effortless. She just puts it together and it works. I also appreciate her honesty about some of the trials in her life. No one gets to our age with out some pain. Great choice Cindy.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Yes that beautiful monogram on the shirt. It really is all in the details isn’t it? I could never wear those jeans that are so attractive on her. I would look like I weighed 200 lbs! But I love them on her. The key is owning your style and knowing what looks best isn’t it?

  12. Anita says

I love Linda’s classic style, but I’ve often wondered why she has chosen not to wear any makeup. A little goes a long way as I’ve gotten older, but I need my makeup ☺️

    • Cindy Hattersley says

I am too Elizabeth! I quit wearing it when I let my hair go gray but she has encouraged me!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Anita

I do agree about makeup. I didn’t wear much when I was younger but find I need a little cover and color as I have gotten older!

  13. Shari Goodman says

She is a tall beautiful woman, but for those of us who are short, too much heavy layering will overpower us.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Shari

So true in regards to the layers. Now that I have a short friend, Mary Ann (Classic Casual Home) I know what you mean. Mary Ann looks darling in a shirt waisted print dress and simple accessories. If I wore the same thing I would look ridiculous even though I am only 5’4. We can learn a lot from these women of style. It doesn’t mean that every take away will work for us however.

  14. No Fear of Fashion says

This is a woman I can relate to (she wears jeans a lot haha). Kidding aside, she is a very good stylist. Love that big mustard sweater. After some careful inspection of the photos, I think it is from her own shop. If that means it is cashmere, I might be able to wear it! All wool itches with me with the exception of expensive cashmere. Fussy right?
I am in Paris usually once every two years and haven’t been last year. I will definitely look her up when I revisit.

Gosh I can remember those posts like they were yesterday!!!
      Really every two years………………?

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Greetje
So enjoyed your interview on the Contessas blog. You really rocked that leather skirt!

  15. LA CONTESSA says

I am too Elizabeth! I quit wearing it when I let my hair go gray but she has encouraged me!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Such good advice Elizabeth regarding eyewear. I never quite get that right! Sunglasses are great as we age because they hide the wrinkles as well!
