5 Simple Recipes for the Perfect Summer Brunch

Croque Madame Bites

Last weekend we had friends over for brunch. I love serving brunch since we have lived here. It normally isn’t too hot at this time of day, so we can enjoy the patio before the heat index creeps up.

I fixed these Croque Madame Brioche Bites (a recipe from Lauren of course) from Williams Sonoma. I am sorry I failed to photograph them (this photo is from Willaims Sonoma). We both followed the recipe but baked them in the large muffin tins, so they were the perfect size for each guest. I would make this simple recipe again in a hearbeat. You can see the croque madame bites being made on Williams Sonoma’s IG post here.

Green Bean Salad with Goat Cheese and Almonds

This Green Bean Salad from Love and Lemons is one of the best I have made. I couldn’t find radicchio, so I omitted that.

Grilled Zucchini

This simple Grilled Zucchini ,(also from Love and Lemons), is a great way to use up all of the abundent zucchini from the garden.

Grilled Sausages

Grilled Sausages are always a hit at our house. I forgot to photograph them as well. I did not serve them with the honey mustard sauce pictured. You can find the recipe for that in my post How to Host a Casual Cocktail Party for 30 here.

Garden Fruit Salad

My neighbor brought this beautiful fruit salad with fruit from her garden.

Lemon Olive Oil Cake

If you have been reading this blog long you know I am not a baker. This recipe for Meyer Lemon Olive Oil Cake is simple and delicious. If you have an abundance of lemons, make two and freeze one. It is actually better the next day.

Outfits of the Week

I am sure you are all thinking about how to transition what you already own or would like to purchase into fall. This great dress from the Nsale would be great now with sandals or later with the great Treasure and Bond leather moto jacket (I am coveting the olive green version as I already own a black one). The jewelry and glasses are from Machete (not on sale) and the silk and cashmere scarf is not on sale in this colorway. Everything else is still available in the sale.

Steve’s Nsale Picks

I didn’t mean to ignore the boys with my Nsale picks. I finally had time to peruse the men’s section. Here are Steve’s picks.

In case you haven’t noticed there are sales everywhere (ha ha). Saks is having a good one here, look quick, as today is the last day!

I hope you are having a great Sunday. It finally cooled down a bit here. Thank you for reading 5 Simple Recipes for the Perfect Summer Brunch. As always, I so appreciate you being here!

Now let’s pop over and visit Annie and Mary Ann for their favorites.

  1. Love the recipes, Cindy. But more than anything, love your sunglasses in that first image. Can you say where you got them?
    Many thanks.

  2. I’m sure your brunch tasted as good as it looked in the pictures. You and Steve are the consummate hosts so I know everything was done beautifully! Loving being back to the coast after Scottsdale where it did reach 116. Thank goodness for AC. It was even too hot to use the pool!

    1. Hi Pal

Welcome Back! It does get hot in Scottsdale and it doesn’t cool down at night yikes!

  3. Hi Cindy,
What a gorgeous lunch you served, and your neighbor friend made a yummy healthy looking salad,
    Your table setting looked fabulous.
Cindy, you always put so much effort and love into your entertaining. To be a guest in your home is a real treat.
I have made a copy of your Meyer Lemon Olive Oil Loaf Cake. It looks very good, I have never seen a Meyer Lemon
in our grocery stores. I bet I can find them hopefully at Whole Foods or our Sprouts. I did see how you can replicate
the flavor of Meyer Lemons. That I can do for sure.

  4. Brunch is my favorite meal, whether entertaining or in a restaurant. It’s a time to relax and enjoy with friends, with a lot of the day left. These brioche bites sound delicious and a nice step up from the egg muffins I sometimes make; I am going to try them as gluten free as we have celiac in the family. Just order the transition dress even tho we are still a long way from fall. Besides black I’m thinking it will go well with navy. Thanks as always for an interesting and enjoying read

    1. Hi AJ

Yes that dress woud be great with navy as well. Navy doesn’t work for me so I rarely feature it!

    1. I am pretty sure Kelly just used all of her ripened fruit from her orchard and topped it with herbs.

  5. I love the black outfit that you are wearing in the photo…may I ask where that is from? thank you.

  6. Hey pal! Just got back from Banff and it was even hot some of the time up there! Thanks for the perfect brunch.
    signed, sealed and done!
And thanks for a peek at fall – we are a good three months away from wearing that cute fit, but a girl can dream!

  7. My mouth is watering!! Good advice about making two of the olive oil cake!

  8. Thanks for the inspiration Cindy! Love your transition outfit. I just picked up a sleeveless olive green dress similar to the one you show. Love the idea for next season and the way you accessorized. Happy Sunday!
