Inexpensive Over 50 Summer Accessories You Will Love

When it comes to summer accessories I like mine cool and simple. I don’t want a lot of heavy jewelry that will make me even hotter this time of year. Let’s talk about Inexpensive Over 50 Summer Accessories You Will Love and where you can find them.

I don’t know about you but I tend to dress more casually in the summer. I do love my accessories though. My summer accessories that I wear on repeat are made of wood, rattan, straw, jute, shell bone and horn. Straw hats are an essential, and you will usually find me in sandals especially since we have moved to a warmer summer climate. I shared a post last July on this same topic. I don’t vary my summer accessories much from year to year as you can see here Natural Summer Accessories for Women Over 50 here. I am probably boring, but I think you should collect things you love that you can keep and wear over and over.

I wore this to the Paso Wine Fest and I was super comfortable and cool. The skirt is the lily skirt from CP Shades, one of my favorite Michael Stars tees the dora, and bamboo earrings and bracelets here and here that you can find on Amazon . For you Lily skirt lovers who don’t like the price (I don’t either) you can find one in toast (which I own) on Ebay here and here. If you need help shopping on Ebay you might find my post How to Score the Best Deals on Ebay and Poshmark.

Here I am wearing a bone necklace gifted from IBU Movement (no longer available but similar here), older horn earrings, and a mix of new and vintage horn bracelets. I have linked some sources at the bottom of the post. You can find great vintage bone bangles on Etsy here. The earrings are vintage as well. The J Jill Linen Shirtdress is sold out in this color but they now have it in this gorgeous blue.

Here I am wearing simple chambray with raffia earrings, a new favorite Helen Kaminski hat (the brim is wired, it is pricey but oh so worth it). I took it to Hawaii and back and it kept it’s shape. I am wearing a jute belt that you can find similar on Amazon. There is no need to pay big bucks for this kind of accessories. You can find them anywhere for reasonable prices. You can find all the details for the outfit in this post, Wide Leg Pants do you Love them or Loathe Them in case you missed it.

This pic was taken in Hawaii. I have to admit I actually packed a little too light. This was my outfit for our last dinner (everything else was dirty). Note I am wearing some of the bone bangles mixed with a vintage shell bracelet that I picked up on Ebay a few years ago. The same bone earrings I have had for years. I am carrying (not sponsored but I wish!) the one bag I took to Hawaii the Sans Arcidet Ralph. I adore this bag and almost all of their others. I posted this picture only in my stories while in Hawaii because I think I look like a fat tub. The mesh shirt is from Cynthia Ashby (love her). You can find it on Artful Home here. Under it I layer this great tank that comes in a million colors from Amazon. You can find the CP Shades Jen pant here. The sandals are a new favorite from Beek. You could not walk for miles in these but they conform to your feet and are comfortable for short periods.

This photo was also part of the post on the Target LBD that you can read about here How to Style one LBD Five Unexpected Ways. I am wearing a straw hat that you have seen many times as well as the bone bracelets.

Cindy what an outstanding post. You are gifted with such a unique relaxed but so “eye catching style.” Any comments about you feeling that you look bulky just cut it out right now! You are just adorable
, I think you could put a bag over your head and you still would look fab u lous.

Can you guide me to where I can take a look at the over-sized cool looking silver (?) color shirt you are wearing with the
    long beautiful white skirt?

The picture of you and fur baby Furrie is so peaceful, such a peaceful state. Yes, I’m a cat person. We had two Birmans
named Romeo and Juliet. Romeo lived for 19 years. Romeo was born on my birthday. I still miss them both deeply. Juliet passed at three years old. That was tragic. We love love love fur children, but no more for us, I am not good when
they complete their circle of life.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Katherine

That shirt was from J Jill a few years ago. I bet you can find it on Ebay. I will look for you. I love hearing about your cats. We have had so many, now “Furrie” is our last. We spelled her name uniquely since she has such a generic name. Many cats adopted us when we lived in Chualar. I think it was a dumping ground. Furrie’s mom found us and we fixed her and the entire litter. I so agree about the circle of life. We have an old cat and an old dog. I know we will get another dog, but I believe Furrie will be our last cat.

It’s so great to see your style pictures. You truly know your style and how to wear so many different things within your style. Everything you show here look fantastic! Most would look ridiculous on me.
I’m working on it, but seem to be all over the board.
Is it like decorating; you either have the touch or you don’t?! You seem to have “the touch” for both!
It’s a pleasure to read you posts!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Nancy

Thank you for your kind comment. I bet you are being too hard on yourself. Hopefully, you can incorporate some ideas into your own style and make them work. We are all different. It takes time to develop a style we are comfortable in.

  3. Juliet says

You always look so casually elegant … and cool as a cucumber. I dislike heavy accessories in warmer weather too. These options all feel so light weight and natural for summer. Love. xo

  4. Caitlin says

Hi! Just want to share that I am 42 and a regular reader! I come back again and again because I admire how you put together your outfits, garden vignettes, and rooms. I love your style, Cindy! You are a creative inspiration!

  5. EVA Popovich says

GREAT tip about photos. My best photos have been taken by my daughter or grandchildren, and always when I am happy!
I love your blog. Lots of ideas, and I always realize I have most of the pieces that go to make up your outfits (of course, I would love to have more, but at 74 this year I have decided to shop from my own closet and just add very selectively.)
I always smile when I read your blog; truly, thank you so much for that!

  6. Anne says

Gosh, if you call yourself a fat tub, as lanky and stylish as you are, what would you say about someone like me?

  7. Jan Correll says

I loved every idea Cindy. Thank you. I love my bali bags but the ones you provided can’t be beat. I love the bamboo bracelets too and am going to order those once back from my trip. Great post as usual my friend. xoxo

Cindy, I love your designs and style. I have decided to up my looks rather that run errands in my tennis clothes. I wore one of your outfits (black ballerina $20 dress from Target, $14 red bandana scarf from Madewell) to the Garden nursery. I was stopped by a beautiful 45 year old woman who told me “she liked my style”! I am 76 and it made my day! Thank you for your wonderful ideas and where to buy them.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Judy

That makes me so happy. I suffer from the same because I work at my computer most days. It always feels better to up my game. And hey a 45 year old even better.

  9. Frances Chigazola says

I did chuckle to myself reading your post about the picture taken in Hawaii. We are always so critical of ourselves. I think you look fabulous.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Frances

So good to hear from you. It is true we are, but to be honest I am at my heaviest in a long time. Healthier with a few less pounds …I am talking 5 or 6.

  10. Kay says

This is off the topic, but where did you get that beautiful white wash kitchen table?

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Kay

It is from Dovetail (wholesale only) but I would check Kathy Kuo home she has almost everything. Let me know if I can help more.

  11. LA CONTESSA says

Those BAMBOO Bracelets………are FANTASTIC!I think we shared a few between ourselves………..
As the comment above says YOU ARE LOOKING FANTASTIC!

You gave me a couple and I should have sais that one is a curtain ring left over from a client.

  12. Wren says

Cindy, Always love the way you accessorize! I have a new problem wearing bracelets that is unfortunate. They often end up pinching my skin and then I bruise. Not a good look and such an obvious trait of being of a certain age (ahem).

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Wren

Oh god another problem we have to look forward to? Isn’t it interesting some of the issues we all have and then some just individually? I do not have that one yet…but I have many others!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Maggie

Thank you so much. I really feel in home decor and fashion it is all about the accessories.

  13. Maureen Morton says

Thank you! I’m 74 and your recommendations for mixing pieces and accessories seems to work so well for me. I appreciate your efforts and honesty.
You look fabulous. Enjoy the summer.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Maurenn

Thank you so much. You ladies inspire me every day to continue on this journey!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Susan

It is so funny when we moved to town Beau (our 11-year-old lab) was in mourning. Furrie (sorry for the pun we gave her a fancy spelling since she was a feral) adapted quickly. They say cats are attached to places, not people. Now that we have moved once again same thing. Beau is a little out of sorts, Furrie not so much. The animal world is fascinating isn’t it?

  14. Karen B. says

    Cindy,
Great selection of lovely summer jewelry and cool looking out fits. Thank you!

So excited that you made it to the Paso Wine Fest. Did you happen to have lunch at Shekamoo Grill? My daughter and son-in-law had their food booth at the event. You will see them all around this summer!! Great Persian kabobs!!

You are looking great. So envious of your move to Paso Robles!!

    • Wren says

Hi Jan, I had food from Shekamoo Grill at the pick up party at Halter Ranch a couple of weeks ago. My BF and I were encouraging the man (apparently your son-in-law) to open a brick and mortar store in SLO. We need more diversified kinds of food. I know he would be busy!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Jan

We ended up at the bbq place (husband’s choice) but I will look for your kids. We love Persian food. Actually, our son-in-law is half Persian. I am going to look them up right this very minute.

  16. Karen says

Love your attire, Perfect for those Summer Days and Nights.
The accessories are so me too,
Ya pics are outstanding, one of my fav ones is Furrie sitting on your lap.

      Hi Karen

So glad you enjoyed and so appreciate your continued support!!

  17. Elizabeth@pineconesandacorns says

Cindy, you always looks amazing!!!!!! I love all of your horn accessories. By the way, it think you look fabulous in your all white outfit in Hawaii. Your comment made me laugh because one of the reasons that I do not post photos of myself is that I always look like a troll, I never ever take a good photo. Back to you, all of your linen skirts, tops and accessories make a beautiful look for the hot summer days.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Elizabeth

Let me give you a lesson. Put yourself in front of the camera your people love you. I never got it. I was always the person who spoiled the family photo, the cheerleading photos in high school because I was not comfortable in front of the camera. My readers made me more comfortable. I still don’t like photos of myself but I try to be more objective. At our age none are all that great. People want to see the face behind the words. It took me so long to get it., but I kind of do now.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Katleen

Sometimes I miss their emails so glad I did not miss this one…agreed!!

I love my horn bracelets. They’re so light and comfortable. Great finds here, Cindy! I’m off to shop online!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Jennifer you are so kind. I love the way you instruct your readers. You give them so much valuable information. I so admire that.
