How to Make a Costco Wreath Look Lush & More

Today as usual I am joining my pals Mary Ann and Annie for our weekly Sunday favorites. If you are like me you are in full holiday mode. Today let’s talk about how to make a Costco wreath look lush & more.

Steve and I helped decorate for our annual neighborhood Christmas party today. Tomorrow I have a full day (including the party) of work because we are off to the Oregon wine country early Monday. We will be staying in McMinnville . If you live in the area, I would love to hear your suggestions for places to go and see!

Food and Wine’s Easy Make Ahead Appetizers

We are having a get together in a couple of weeks, I have learned (through trial and error) that people do not eat as much as you think they will. They love great wines and a few nibbles. Keep the menu simple otherwise you will be left with a lot of uneaten food. This list from Food and Wine will. be my stepping off point for inspiration.

How to Make a Costco Wreath Look Lush

It’s really easy to dress up a Costco or Home Depot Wreath and give it some style. It just takes a little creativity. The first thing you need to do is fluff up the wreath. Many people don’t take the time to do this and the wreath has that pancake look. After you have pulled and fluffed your greens get creative!

This wreath was on our fixer-upper door. I took a standard 24″ wreath and added nuts, oranges, and olive, and bay leaves from my yard. I glued all of the elements on with a glue gun. You might also enjoy my post on how to make a faux wreath look natural here.

This wreath is from my Chualar home. Here I glued three medium sized pinecones, three dried poms from my yard, a strand of three rusty bells, and eucalyptus from my yard. Again I glued everything in place with a glue gun.

EMBELLISHED COSTCO CHRISTMAS WREATH

Sometimes all that is needed is a simple ribbon. I purchased this ribbon on eBay several years ago but you can find similar ribbon at Promenade Fabrics on Etsy.

Last year I added these bells from Amazon to my Home Depot wreaths and pretty ribbon from Promenade Fabrics on Etsy.

This wreath is also from our fixer-upper. I added simple magnolia leaves and pretty brown double faced satin ribbon.

If you haven’t decorated your front door yet, go out and grab a simple green wreath and have fun with whatever you can forage!

Outfit of the Week

Rag and Bone is having a huge sale which makes some of their items affordable. I wish their wonderful things weren’t so pricey. I have had my eye on this poncho and now it is $100. Banana Republic Factory also has an almost identical one here for $50! I almost like it better. I like it with a denim shirt and jeans. I also have my eye on this bag from BR and am hoping it goes on sale soon. Pair the outfit with my favorite Emma booties from Gentle Souls (on super sale now & I just ordered this color I love them so much) and you are ready to go tailgating, or anywhere else you might be headed. Mix it up with rhinestone and tortoise accessories. You can find vintage J Crew tortoise and rhinestone bracelets on Poshmark here, or more j crew rhinestone & tortoise items on eBay here. Grab one of your vintage rhinestone brooches and pin it to your collar or close the cape with it, and add a pair of Machete tortoise earrings for a little holiday sparkle!

As for making Christmas more meaningful.
To quote Dr. Suess…”Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”
Social media seems to make Christmas, among other things, seem like an OVER THE TOP all or nothing holiday. This year it was the rush for the $600 Home Depot tree and the notion that you are not doing the holiday right unless you “start over” every year with new decorations.
Make it more meaningful by looking for the free gifts that you can give people, your time, your attention. Be present, get off your phone. Everything is not an instagram moment. Enjoy the traditions of your family, the cookie baking, the sleigh rides, holiday parties, etc.
It is the little things in life that mean the most. The people around the tree not the things under it.

So true. Being with friends and family are true gifts. We love Christmas Concerts and Christmas Lights events at two city parks in our area. Special Christmas Luncheons with my ladies club and book club are always a great time. This year I have really cut down on gift giving stress! ( started early and bought less).

Cindy, I agree with Mary Ann, you are the wreath Queen! So many beautiful options with just a few additions.
I love the nuts, fruit and ribbon.
I am with you on the brooches, I have worn them for years! They are a versatile underused piece of jewelry that adds character, interest and sometimes bling to your outfit.
    Thanks for sharing our bling!
    Have a wonderful adventure!

Hi Cindy – I love your style. I’m going to dig out my charm bracelets and wear them as a necklace for some ‘bling’ on top of a chambray shirt. YES – yearning for simple Christmas times…it’s getting easier as my kids get bigger we can share in the ‘making magic’.

  4. Kim says

Cindy, your wreaths are all stunning. Everyone of them is gorgeous. Is this blue door on your house right now? That blue is so pretty. I love the pomegranates. I have to fix my wreath, and I think I will use the hot glue method because the tying on isn’t working for me. Thank you so much for mentioning the #showusyourbling ! I hope you share a look for it’ ! I know you have some amazing pins.

  5. Kate K says

Cindy, your creativity never ceases to amaze me. I am taking your suggestions for adding to my sprig wreath this year. It’s from Balsam and so realistic. I have it mounted to a now discontinued CB2 double asymetrical stainless plain wreath and it looks beautiful alone but needs some adornment. The bells are coming home with me! Wishing a fun party and a great time tasting wine in Oregon.

Cindy! You have a way with wreaths … love these ideas for creating something special. We visited McMinnville for the first time a couple of months ago. Be sure to stop by the Atticus Hotel, you’ll love the lobby decor and check the meeting room behind the front desk too. Their Cypress restaurant is very good. Enjoy! xo

  7. Dee says

Nice ideas here. And I was going to add the rain is coming hard to Willamette valley this week and Tuesday will be a soaker. So good idea you will reschedule. Happy Holidays.

Just returned from the OR wine country last week. Stayed in Dundee. While in McMinnville, eat at Humble Spirit. Every winery we visited was outstanding, but really enjoyed Gran Moraine & Bethel Heights. Also Ponzi and David Hill. Enjoy!

Beautiful wreaths, and ribbons – love the elegance and simplicity! Great outfit – so clever with the broach. I have to check out the boots and poncho! More meaningful Christmas – yes (goals!) Won’t be this year…moving. Our date has come and gone. Waiting (not so patiently) for new house to be done. There’s a simple wreath on the front door, and we’ll get a small tree (everything else is packed away). Deep breaths…. Enjoy your wine country trip. Sounds lovely!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Barbara

I am so sorry it has dragged on so long…construction never goes as planned …asky my (glad to be retired )contractor husband!

  10. Wren says

You are so clever – every one of the wreaths is totally different. How you keep coming up with new ideas is amazing! Love the tortoise jewelry look combined with rhinestones; I’ve never seen that look before. Do the Booties run true to size for you? I have my eye on those, especially if they are as comfortable as you say they are. YES to making Christmas more meaningful and to slowing it all down. It sounds like a daunting task but if the commercialization could just wait until December at least, that’s a small step.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Wren

Yes the booties run true to size and they are so comfortable. This will be my third pair!! I am enjoying the Christmas season, but I am so glad I waited until after Thanksgiving!!

  11. Marie says

Cindy, you inspire me with every post. You know how to turn a ho-hum wreath into the jewel of the front door! I would like to add some pomegranates to my decor. See you used dried from your yard on one wreath. And in a post last week you showed artificial poms on your dining table. Do you have a good source for artificial poms? And the rustic bells on the pom wreath? Enjoy your travels!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Marie

Thank you so much. I got my pomegranetes wholesale from Winward years ago. I linked to some on Etsy but I am not sure how realistic they are.Google Winward Home and see if they still have them and if you can buy them retail.

  12. Ann says

As usual your post are the best!
A week or so ago, one of your outfits featured an all cream /winter white combination. I said I doubt if I could pull it off, however last night was the event to try an all cream palette: a vintage silk jacket with gold buttons, a cream top and pant. A modern bold statement clear plastic and faux gold necklace paired with two 24k gold vintage pieces worked well. This combo was eye catching as most women wore the traditional black. A winter white hue brightened up the area around my face where black would have created a harsher tone.
    Thanks for the inspiration!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Ann

It is such a pretty combo isn’t it? I love winter white. It doesn’t look as good with my gray hair, so I don’t wear it as often anymore, but I sure love it!

  13. Susan says

Where did you find your strand of 3 bells on the rope that you used on your wreath? They are the perfect accent for your wreath. They make it something unique.

You probably follow Susie wright on IG, she’s one of the Nordstrom 6. If not, she grew up in mc minville and visits there a lot. It looks charming. Have fun😍

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mary

I do follow Susie. I will go back and check her post. I featured her on Ageless Style a few years ago!

  15. Debbie Evans says

Susan Wright of the so Susie blog grew up in McMinnville and actually hosted a weekend at the wineries. Go to her blog for lots of suggestions for the area!

  16. Mary Ann Pickett says

You are the wreath QUEEN! Love all of them. I would definitely wear your outfit of the week. So cute. And our “bling friends” have me pulling out my brooches!

    Have a wonderful trip!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mary Ann

The wreath queen? Ha! I have worn my pins and brooches for years in our out of style so to speak..

  17. Linda Conner says

Hi Cindy, I love your wreath ideas! They all are incredibly beautiful. I am glad that you are visiting up here in Oregon. Right now we are getting hit with a Pineapple Express of rain from Hawaii, so make sure you have rain gear. I love on the central Oregon coast, so I’m a couple of hours west of where you will be staying. There are several wineries in that area that are beautiful, and I don’t think you will be disappointed with your choices. Honestly, just remember your rain gear. We had really nice dry weather that lasted until this past Friday, and then the wet stuff arrived with a vengeance. If you have time, a trip to the coast is always amazing, if not, you are in a pretty area that is not too crowded. Have a wonderful time.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Linda

We just had to cancel as Steve is sick. We are rescheduled for January. Do you have any favorite wineries? I am keeping a list!!
