Friday Fun Stuff

Hi Everyone.  I hope this finds you all healthy and safe.  I am trying to keep a positive attitude with all that is going on around us, sometimes it is difficult.  I have rounded up some links that I hope will bring a little sunshine into your life wherever you are.  Let’s take a look at Friday Fun Stuff.

Seriously can Mark D Sikes do any wrong?  Look at this gorgeous room in one of his latest projects.  I am loving the blue and tangerine.  His latest book More Beautiful will be out in September.  I have mine on preorder.  I don’t know about you but I can’t wait!! You can buy it on Amazon here.

Now that we are all wearing masks on a daily basis, lipstick has become a big issue.  As long as you don’t take your mask off it isn’t a problem.  Anyone else having problems with the “joker look” when you do take the mask off?  Here are three lip colors that will stay put (or at least won’t be all over your face) when you are wearing a mask. I wrote a post a while back the best lipsticks and lipcare for mature women here. However, I have found that the more moisturizing ones (which I had gravitated to) smear all over the face with a mask.  I am back to the versions that resemble concrete until the pandemic is over. These three work.  The Stila is the absolute best.  I like the baca and the beso. The Chanel is pricey but has so many more colors, and the old Revlon standby is good but not many color choices.

Have you checked out Kris from Driven by Decor’s Master Bath Reno here? She is always so good about listing the sources.  If you are looking to remodel your bath and are looking for some good ideas. I am using a similar woven pendant in a bath I am working on right now. Check out Kris’ post here

My friend Elizabeth, from Pine Cones and Acorns has a burger recipe that I am going to try this weekend, Texas Burger from Bobby Flay. Does this look like 4th of July perfection or what?

I love Sundance Catalog.  To me it is like shopping in a small boutique.  They have things that you can’t find “everywhere” which is not the case for most catalogs.  I am normally not a blue fan but this shirt really caught my eye.  Apparently I am drawn to blue and tangerine at the moment.

Little Summer LOVES ice cream.  I wonder if I could convince her to try this Pistachio Ice Cream from Epicurious.  I don’t care for ice cream but this one? Yum! We have this ice cream maker from Cuisinart and we love it.  My husband can barely boil water and he has completely taken charge of the ice cream making.

Do you follow Susan from My French Oasis ? She writes about her life in the French Countryside. She posted this photo of her beautiful patio on Instagram today and I was smitten.

Several of you have asked about nail colors that I am loving right now.  I am wearing mooning right now. It is the perfect complement to jeans.  If you follow me on Instagram stories you spotted it on my newly pedicured toes! Yippee.  I love press pause as a neutral, not quite white and a great accompaniment to gray hair. Sunday Funday is just a great pop of coral for fun.

This tablescape from House Beautiful is calling my name.  You might enjoy Stylish PatrioticTablescapes you can Copy if you are looking for festive tablescape inspiration.

This article from Goldman Sachs on Face Masks is worth reading. The time is now people. We owe it to each other.  We need to wear masks to protect each other and to prevent our small businesses from having to close down again.  It’s not complicated and it isn’t difficult once you get used to them. I realize some of you have health issues that prevent you from wearing them but most of us don’t.  There is nothing political about it.  My friend Kim from Savvy Southern Style posted a link from @kinggutterbaby, an infectious disease specialist from Emory University.  Check out her highlights entitled masks. My son and daughter in law own a craft beer and wine tasting room.  They are complying with all restrictions.  It is tough but they are doing it.  My husband owns a small business, his workers wear masks.  One of my favorite shops Perch Decor (she is having a big sale) is closing.  Please do your part to keep our small businesses alive and our hospitals from overcrowding. We can do it.

We have our little bundle of joy here with us for a couple of days and tomorrow we will join our children at the lake.  Summer will soon be 26 months old (going on 12).  She is learning to swim, and has become quite a little fish. Here she is hugging our feral cat “fur fur”, who is 12.

Love Friday Fun Stuff! Summer is adorable, such fun nail colors and thanks for all of the great links and resources! I’m with you on the masks too. Such a simple thing to do that can have significant positive impact!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Ginger

Thank you so much for being supportive. Masks are simple and all we can do right now. We just have to do it!!

  2. Elizabeth says

Good Sunday evening to you Cindy, I hope that you had a wonderful weekend with your beautiful grand-daughter and of course her parents.
Thank you for the mention, did you have a burger? We made the burger and loved it!
So many great links, I love Susan at My French Oasis! She is an amazing writer as is her daughter.
As for the masks, it goes without saying that we have to get the virus under control. It is heartbreaking to see so many suffering because of this virus, the elderly who have not seen family in months, kids stuck at home, women and children battered, people who have lost their jobs, people who are in miles long lines for food, and of course all those who have lost their jobs but also the loss of dreams and small businesses.
    Have a wonderful evening!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Yes we did make the burger! Fantastic! I had to jazz up the slaw a bit. I totally trust you when it comes to cooking! We just have to do the best we can with masks and social distancing until we have something better you are so right. So glad you are joining us for the Progessive BBQ!!

  3. Sheila in SF says

Interesting suggestions for lipstick and nail
Polish. Yes grandchildren are a joy. Look forward to hearing about your move. Will you stay in same area. Your home is a gem. Happy 4th.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Sheila

We will not stay here. Too much property and upkeep. WE love this place and will never have a house like this again, but it is time to move on. We aren’t sure where we will land!

  4. Karen B. says

This is a great post. I always love finding new bloggers to follow. The nail colors are so pretty. Maybe I’ll venture out and get one that’s a little different from the baby pink I usually wear. 🙂
I appreciate the links to the article about wearing masks. None of us like it but we need to do what is necessary to help get us out of the mess. Enjoy your time with your sweet Summer.
    xo,
    Karen

My manicurist will laugh when she reads this. I have barely ventured out from my grays. I am working on it. It is not hard to do the mask thing. Even little Summer says put on your mask Gobby!! Although putting one on her might be a challenge! She is only two but is the size of a 4 yr old!!

  5. NAN Of TN says

Have a Happy Independence Day with your family at the lake this weekend! So appreciate the uplifting touches of beauty you share on your posts. Masks are such an easy way to help this serious situation we are all in, too. Abiding by our local Safer At Home Order since March 7 in Tennessee, I haven’t gone out yet.
My favorite new summer nail polish is OPI Nail Lacquer in Princesses Rule!- an iridescent shade of pink, reminding me of glittery pink ballet tutus. One of my favorite things to do while growing up was giving my elegant grandmother in Kansas pedicures.

  6. Juliet says

Summer is so sweet … and growing up! I was lamenting the lipstick / mask situation earlier today … I’ll check out your recommendations. Tossing my mask in the washer and hoping lipstick comes out … reminds me of ‘lipstick on the collar’ days. Ha! It’s sad to hear that your favorite shop is closing. It breaks my heart to see business I’ve loved and relied upon for years struggling. We must all do our part … masks, distance, staying home if possible … while doing what we can to support our local businesses. Love your Sunday Funday nail polish color … I’ve gotten pretty good at polishing within the lines during lockdown. 🙂

    • Cindy Hattersley says

I am jealous Juliet that you have mastered the at home manicure. My vision is not what it used to be and I have never been very small motor coordinated anyway. I can do my toes (barely). You are so right about our fav stores. I hope our kids can hang on to their charming craft beer and wine tasting establishment that they have worked so hard to cultivate.

  7. Dora Renata Pala says

    Grazie Cindy
Buon fine settimana e felice celebrazione.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Dora

Okay I will talk more about my house on the lake. I need to take better pictures but I promise I will prepare a post soon. It is for sale. Our son and daughter in law are using it this week so I will have to take some pictures later after the “little tornado” leaves!! Dora I so enjoy and appreciate your thoughtful comments!

  8. Diane Ruebel says

Happy Independence Day from Camano Island,
Your posts continue to lift my spirits and inspire my creativity. I sent the French garden onto my sister because we are creating her backyard garden from almost nothing. Love the big block planters and we know how to create the mossy look with buttermilk.

You would look incredible in the Sundance tunic.

    Hugs to you and Summer,
    Diney

    • Cindy Hattersley says

We have to meet one day Diney you always boost my spirits!! Have fun with your sisters garden. We have to find fun and strength where we can these days!!

  9. Melissa says

Might also want to try Maybelline Matte Ink lip stick at $8.00 or Rimmel Provocolips at $6.00. When working in the OR it’s nice to take your mask off and not need to apply color to your lips. Price point is great on both and they have nice color selections.

  10. Judy bell says

I’m absolutely crushing on blue and tangerine right now. I can’t get enough of it! I’ve always liked blue but was never a fan of orange. Guess my taste has changed, and for the better!

  11. home before dark says

Summer is so precocious and adorable beyond words. Enjoy your family week-end. We are still staying in a very close bubble. We’ve had a little uptick in Kansas! People are fed up with being couped up and because that want it so, believe the danger is over. It is not. Yes, some days it’s does get overwhelming. I think we have to meet those feelings head on. It’s always a delight to read your blog. I appreciate your efforts and your focus to add some sunshine in the world. Do take care of yourself!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Rhonda!
Thank you so much for your support. We certainly are enjoying our little Summer!! Have a wonderful weekend!

  12. Rhonda Ragain says

Thank you for your beautiful patriotic displays! So many wonderful suggestions! Have a wonderful 4th of July and enjoy those grandbabies. Stay safe and have a blast!

  13. Loya Palmer says

I enjoy your posts so much. I loved seeing your darling granddaughter, she is a beauty! Your advice about lipstick is so appreciated during this time-I have a hard time remembering to use lipstick with a mask and my lips get so dry. Thanks for your encouragement. Happy 4th!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Loya

The good thing about wearing a mask is if you don’t take it off you don’t need lipstick! Have a happy and safe 4th. Thank you so much for the sweet comment about my granddaughter. We sure get a kick out of her!

  14. Cyndi says

Great post today, Cindy! I especially appreciate the lipstick suggestions. I haven’t worn lipstick since March!
Have happy and safe July 4th!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cyndi
Those darn masks are tough on the lipstick! As long as one doesn’t take them off in public it is a non issue, but if you go out to eat, or to get your hair cut, once the mask comes off it is scary!!
