Today I am joining Most Lovely Things, Classic Casual Home and LaVie on Grand. We are featuring our homes decked out for Christmas. Today I am sharing the largest part of my home, my kitchen and great room.
I don’t change things up a lot from year to year. I cherish the decorations that we have collected over the years. This year I was inspired by feathers and magnolia leaves. I changed the color of the ribbon and added magnolia and feathers. Let’s begin in the kitchen. I am loving the kitchen decor this year. It is simple and fresh which i love. Let’s chat about How to Mix Faux and Fresh Christmas Decor for a Natural Look
How to Mix Faux and Fresh Christmas Decor for a Natural Look
In the kitchen windows I placed wreaths from Home Depot and added simple vintage cinnamon colored gros-grain ribbon from one of my favorite Etsy sellers Promenade Fabrics. I like the way the ribbon color repeats the color of the barstools and the beams.
Above the kitchen sink hangs two more of the simple Home Depot wreaths adorned with a simple ribbon instead of bows.
On the counters are simple bowls of lemons, oranges, pine greens from my yard and magnolia from Trader Joes. You can eat the fruit and replace through the holidays to keep them fresh.
On the banquette I kept it consistent with an old french wood sink (purchased with my friend Debra from 5th and State) in Carmel years ago. The sink is filled with a mix of fresh greenery, faux greenery, and cedar and magnolia.
SHOP BANQUETTE
Here’s the view of the great room looking from the entry. I don’t love the giant tv but Steve does. The faux garland on the fireplace appears real because I added natural elements to it.
I purchased this artificial garland from Park Hill Collection years ago. It is basically a faux fir garland with pine cones. I have used it for years. You can see it in my current home in this post How to Create a Natural Looking Mantel here. You can see it in my fixer upper in my post A Collected Christmas Home Tour here. in my Chualar home how I drape it on my banister/staircase in this post Nature Inspired Christmas Decor here I added feathers, antlers, and magnolia leaves this year for interest.
The wreath above the mantle on the vintage shutters is also from Park Hill. You can read about how I zhooshed that wreath to make it look more natural in my post How to Make a Faux Wreath Look Natural here.
This is the dining area of our great room with the tree and mantel in the background.
We purchased this artificial Christmas tree from Terrain last year. It was not prelit. They have the same tree available prelit here this year. The pine needles appear natural, and it has different textures of needles. If you are searching for a realistic looking tree, I would highly recommend this one.
We have an old “trencher” (bowl) that we purchased from Patine many years ago with faux poms, foraged greens from our yard and magnolia leaves on the dining table.
Behind the table we have our Christmas bar setup.
This corner (it is hard to tell) was not quite deep enough to accommodate a corner cupboard that we had in our Chualar home for years. Steve and Leo built the wall out to accommodate it, and now it is in our forever home.
Beside the corner cupboard is a table we found in Savannah many many years ago. I decorated it with some vintage lawn bowling pins, a vintage african basket (from Etsy), and a repro santo we have owned for years.

I love how the ribbon just lays over the wreath! Genius, And the color with the magnolia underside – gorj.
I have SO MANY decorations that I brought home from the store. Every year I say I’m going to get rid of some and just can’t do it. At least I have stopped buying them.
Your house is just wonderful Cindy!
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Gray
I am not a bow person, but I like ribbon. I know I am kind of crazy that way! I finally got rid of a bunch of my Christmas stuff when we moved.

Beautiful Home Cindy. The nautural decorations are classy and evoke warmth and invitation. Your kitchen is stunning. I love how you garnished each window with a simple wreath and how your fruit bowls have the feeling of Christmas. Excellent job!
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Kate
Thank you so much. The older I get less is more.
Nancy says
Love the decorations and your home. Can you tell me where you got your bar stools? I have been eyeing something similar online but want to be sure they are good quality.
Thanks
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Nancy
Here is the link to my barstools. I linked them at the bottom of the post but here is the direct link
https://rstyle.me/+5SvyWC1W_nGN9Q_l1Z4ybQ. I have been extremely happy with them. Summer sits on them all the time. The only problem we had was when Steve left a puddle of water on them and there is a very slight ring. It was left for twodays so one cannot expect a miracle!!

Dear Cindy,
I experience serenity as the centerpiece of your simply elegant decorations. Now when you’re. ready to wrap gifts, you can do so surrounded by peace and beauty. I’m trying to guess what you favorite holiday music is but am certain you will have it playing as you create beautiful packages.
May you and yours enjoy peaceful holidays,
Diney on Mercer Island

Such nice decorations. Thanks for the Etsy ribbon recommendation. I wonder how you keep the ribbon in place on the wreaths? I have wreaths on my door and they don’t stay in place.
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Lucretia
You need florists wire. You can get it in rolls at any craft store.

Everything you touched turned to magic. Love everything you did, all the natural elements create so much warmth.
You always create a lived in and welcoming feeling.
How did you ever get all of this done before December 1st? Work ahead like a crazy lady? Do you ever rest and go to sleep at night? Probably not, you are amazing.
You are appreciated.

Cindy,
This is so beautiful. I love the natural look of everything you’ve featured. I was inspired a few years ago by you when you featured a client’s home you decorated for Christmas using all natural touches. To this day it is my favorite and now you’ve added your own home to my list of favorites.
Have a lovely holiday season. Thank you for always providing such inspiration and ideas.
