The Paint well…let’s just say I finally made a decision.Benjamin Moore’s Spanish White it is! This is not an accurate representation of the color at all at least on my monitor. My painter (Mr. H) did not want me to drag the decision out any longer! Spanish white seems to work the best with the other finishes I am dealing with. It does run the gamut with the different lighting in the three rooms. As you may recall my house is thin wall plaster so the Spanish White had to start in the upstairs ...

Ten Ways to make a “Granny Chair” Look Hip
I was at a client’s home last week and she had a very “granny looking” victorian chair, a family heirloom, that she wished to update. Her home is an old world Italianesque home with lovely antiques and furnishings. She surprised me by choosing this fun tangerine very now looking trellis pattern for the chair. She asked me what I thought and I said absolutely! That chair covered in a heavy fabric of the period would look dated and uninteresting. When I received notice from Fabricut of a new ...
I’m Smitten…Tabarka Tile
We (mostly Mr. H) spent the weekend painting over our glazed walls. This is a huge job as they were done with an oil based glaze. All of the walls have to be sanded, primed, and then painted. I am still unsure about the paint color. I have this week to decide as final coat begins this weekend! Did I mention how hard it is for me to choose a paint color for myself?!!! We have found a local artisan to do our concrete overlay countertops (one less job for Steve). You can see my inspiration ...
Spanish Colonial Update
Before I begin, have you tried Waterlogue? Our Spanish Colonial home via the Waterlogue App… As I mentioned in an earlier post our home is to be photographed this Spring/Summer for a national magazine. As I have also mentioned parts of our home are badly in need of updating. The wood floors have been refinished and two of the guest rooms have been repainted you can read about them here https://cindyhattersleydesign.com/2013/11/six-week-one-room-challenge-gues.html. My floors downstairs are ...
Great Regional Magazines…Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles, Peter Block and Joel Kelly
On the West Coast, we tend to be more focused on National Publications. In the wake of so many of the national shelter magazines disappearing I want to focus on some of the great regional publications. So many are going strong and delivering just as much punch if not more than their national counterparts. My first feature and one of my favorites is Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles. Whenever I receive the most recent issue in my box I am never disappointed. The latest issue features the architect ...
Guest Bedroom Update…
As I have told you all many times before most of the rooms in our home are sadly in need of updating. You know the old saying the cobblers son goes without shoes….need I say more? All of our bedrooms are upstairs and the hardwood floors are in need of refinishing. When we decided to paint two of the guest bedrooms my husband decided to hand scrape the floors while the room was empty and stain and refinish them as well. One bedroom at a time to make it less painless! I did a post on Twin ...
Beth Webb Interiors…The Power of Black
Beth chooses texture over pattern and color when designing her interiors. Her spaces are defined by beautiful woods, antiques, and art. Beth appreciates the power of black. “A Room should never be without something black”. A favorite of mine Black Windows The Antique Black Cupboard adds a little black to this otherwise white interior Here she infuses black into the outdoor furnishings to add some depth to the space. The power of black is exemplified in this space where ...
Ethnic Chic… Cross Cultural Design
I live in a Spanish Colonial in great need of updating so I am really drawn to anything with an ethnic vibe of late. Cross-Cultural Design has a timeless textural feel that really appeals to me. My walls were all originally white and they have been glazed for the last 10+ years. I am thinking of going white again. What do you think? I like the look of what Megan Megas has done in her own home (via cote de texas) below. Rather than shout ethnic chic this space in Megan's home make a ...
The Captivating Interiors of Serena Crawford
While perusing Pinterest I stumbled across the photo below of a home designed by Serena Crawford. Of course, I wanted to see more! From what I can tell the homes she has designed are located in incredible locales. She has allowed the surroundings to be the focus. ...
