How to Get Jill Sharp Weeks Collected Organic Look

I admit it I have a girl crush on Jill Sharp Weeks. Every time I spot an image on Instagram, I am fascinated. I love her refined curatorial eye, how she has honed in on her own distinct aesthetic, and her passion for the old and imperfect. Let’s take a look at how to get Jill Sharp Weeks Collected Organic Look, or attempt it.

It is aptly stated on her website “HER WORK EXPLORES THEMES FROM WIDE-RANGING CULTURES AND PERIODS IN CURATED JUXTAPOSITION”. You can see more of her beautiful work on her website here

Here is the darling Jill on her wedding day. Of course, the dress, the flowers, the carefully curated jewelry combine for a beautiful collected “signature jill” look.

I was introduced to Jill’s work back in 2010 in House Beautiful and by my friend Joni from Cote de Texas in her article Christmas at Jill’s here. Jill was the creative director at Ballard Designs at the time. Her Atlanta home was coveted by many after the House Beautiful spread. That home had so many layers of interest, she had us all begging for more.

I am most fascinated by the small gathered vignettes she creates on Instagram with elements from nature, the past, and the present.

Only Jill could create a unique vignette around a head of cauliflower.

Fast forward to date. Jill currently (I believe) has homes in Charleston and Santa Fe (two of my favorite places), perhaps Atlanta, Brays Island?. If you follow Jill on Instagram you can catch glimpses of both and any project she is currently working on.

She has a passion for stone of any kind.

Jill most often favors texture over color. This vignette really rocks my world. Love the monochromatic madness, layers of texture on texture.

Black and White usually reign supreme in Jill’s designs. It’s the eclectic mix of the elements that always catch the eye.

This image illustrates perfectly what sets Jill apart. If you look at the upper half of the photograph, you view a wonderful pair of vintage sconces and an antique mirror featured above a lovely stone fireplace. The bottom half is pure Jill (a giant dried piece of cactus with a funky interesting (umbrella stand?) a modern lamp and a vintage scrubbed table in the foreground…fascinating…

Only Jill could create this surprising mix of foraged, utilitarian, and earthy elements on a console on her Santa Fe porch.

Her fashion sense is equally as refined…collected, layered, and distinctive.

She dresses like her house. A series I hope to explore in the near future. Here in Charleston.

Her styling is always a study in contrasts, a mix of the refined and the rustic.

I love her style. Every vignette is like a piece of art but in a relatable way. Instead of using color she bring in natural textural elements that are so inspiring. I love how she uses black and white and mixes in curated pieces which makes her style tell a story. So inspiring and beautiful! Like you I think her personal style in clothing is reflected in her homes. So fun and creative. Thanks for sharing her style!

Cindy! I keep coming back to this post to take it all in. I have admired Jill’s style for a long time and how she has the most unique, collected look for both her home and her own personal style. She’s like you in that way…that she dresses and accessorizes her outfit like she does a home or a coffee table or a patio…every thing is just so lovely! I mean, right down to the purple cauliflower. It’s so earthy and textural. Then I love how she uses a crisp black and white gingham duvet cover and that the blanket over the headboard is just a smidge to the left, to display a small painting above. Perfect, but not too perfect, but very intentional! Love this post!!

    Hi Cindy,
I find Jill’s work very interesting, all the textures are intriguing. But, I’m drawn more to color and softer textures. This all seems a bit staged, and very rough and spikey for me! Though I do appreciate her artist’s eye, she’s more abstract and I guess I’m more drawn (get it?!) to Impressionism.

I think any two-time cancer thriver gets to do life on her own gloriously personal terms. I love the textures and the juxtapositions. Everything is a canvas, a picture to be shot. So much attention to the contrasts and light and shadows. Personally I need more color and pattern—lots more! But I can recognize the artist’s way and celebrate one strong woman living her life her way.

Cindy – I was so floored to discover that you had taken the time to gather images, articles, even the Quintessence video to share with your blog followers. Thank you for a very perceptive and gracious description of my life +career pursuits. I start everyday in gratitude to be alive to pursue what interests me and to learn about things that I’m curious about. I sure hope our paths cross someday abd that I get to return the favor of the energy and time this research on me took and make you a fabulous meal and a walk through our homes. You’ve made my day! Thank you for the live! Jill

I really enjoyed spending time looking at each and every photo; the natural elements, textures, juxtapositions, and reflections of where she lives. I fiddle with color, I think that some of the aforementioned qualities speak for themselves and “no color” is a huge part of Jill’s design style and preference if I venture to guess. Needless to say, I took away a lot from this post. Now, if I could pull off her style of dressing! Wearing a hat in the summer is a huge leap for me!!

    Super post, Cindy!

    Jane ❤️

      Hi Jane

I agree. I could never be as honed in on my own style as Jill. I am too tempted by color, pattern etc. That being said, like someone mentioned, her work is like a painting. There are so many lessons to be learned and takeaways from it. I am in awe of her complete confidence in her aesthetic, so much to learn. Thanks for your always thoughtful comments. We are going to have to connect in the Midwest one day.

Thank you, the more I take time to read and observe – the more I enjoy and save your postings. I LOVE Jill’s work…it seems not everyones taste but I find it to be ART in it’s most captivating form…I find it inspiring and like I am in great studio that makes me want more.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Debra

I am so glad you enjoyed this post. I work hard to try and bring different design aesthetics that we can learn from, as well as ways for all of us over 50 to think outside the box and have a little fun with fashion. I am personally always studying and learning.

  8. Marci says

Have to agree with those who say the colors are missing and she tries too hard. Nothing here that floats my boat. Nevertheless, it’s interesting to see what other people love and I enjoy the variety of images you bring us. I appreciate being introduced to designers I never would have seen without you. Thank you, Cindy!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Marci

I always appreciate your insightful comments. If we all liked the same thing here, it would be rather boring. I try to bring women with various styles that we can all learn from, and find little takeaways that might work in our own home or personal style. I try to keep things interesting for all of us.

      Hi Amanda

Well said! You hit the nail on the head. We still need to meet up at Round Top…maybe next Spring!

  10. Nancy says

Like some of the others, I could not live in a place with so little color. To me, it’s just too bland.
She is obviously very talented and I love her dressing style.
Very interesting to see others’ points of view.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Nancy

I have noticed in Jill’s Instagram she is playing with purple. It will be interesting to follow along and see what becomes of that.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Nancy

I always try to bring inspiring interiors and fashion to the table. Jill has such a curated style. Hopefully we all find something to take away from someone so talented. She has great insightj.

  11. Janet Arden says

Wow, Cindy — this really pushes me beyond my usual traditional/transitional mindset, dnd that’s a good thing. I think it’s so important to push ourselves beyond our “favorites.” I have seen the Quintessence video (excellent) and loved Joni Webb’s take on JSW. No one dissects design like Joni! Thanks for a greaser post!

  12. Leslie says

I have to say Jill has a very curated look and it suits her well. Frankly I’d go crazy in a space with no color. No art with color. Not a throw rug or vase of hot red tulips. I would turn into a depressed zombie. I do like her Santa Fe style outfit though!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Leslie

I could not do a room without color, well I shouldn’t say that my master has always been almost nearly neutral and it is completely neutral in this smaller home. I do like pops of color with a neutral background. I have noticed Jill is introducing the color purple into her Instagram feed. She is so talented who knows what will be next!!

  13. Lauren says

Oh My! To each his/her/their own. Not seeing much to like with any of Jill’s work. To my eye it looks like she is trying to hard. Maybe it is just that none of this would look like a “fit” in my climate

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Lauren

I try to find people whose work you can grab ideas from. Her look is highly curated for sure. Not everyone can tap into that, but hopefully we can all learn something from this immensley talented lady!

  14. Wren says

Wow! Each picture deserves time to see all of the different elements. There are so many comment-worthy designs but one caught my eye and tickled me. She has placed one tiny picture above the bed (with the fabulous black and white checks).
My first thought upon seeing her on her wedding day is wig? Then further pictures show her as a brunette so maybe? Whatever, I love her style! Thanks for bringing her to our attention, Cindy.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Wren

I loved the detail of the tiny photo above the bed as well…such attention to detail. One can learn so much from her.
