Trying to Get Fit in the New Year

Happy Sunday everyone. Today I am joining Mary Ann, and Annie for our Sunday Fab Five. I am trying to take off a few pounds and trying to get fit in the new year. Let’s talk about that and more.

HOW MUCH PHYSICAL ACTIVITY DO OLDER ADULTS NEED?

Yikes I guess that is us. So how much excercise do we really need a great article here by the Centers of Disease Control

I forget how much good information you can find on the AARP website. Denise Austin is their fitness expert. You can find a wealth of information on simple ways to get fit here from Denise.

OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

On Wednesday I will be joining Jennifer from A Well Styled Life and Rhoda from Southern Hospitality for a post on Activewear. Let’s face it that’s what most of us are living in right now. I spotted this Varley Sweatshirt (a tad pricey) on Anthropologie after the fact. I love the side zips and I find if I buy decent sweatshirts they last. I paired it with the Zella leggings which come in extended sizes, the super reasonable old navy waterproof jacket (looks just like the one from Banana that is three times the price) comes in multiple colors. I like the crossbody bag from Nike. I don’t know how many times I head out for a walk and wish I had my wallet. Target has the latest and greatest air buds for $189. I know still pricey but if you like to listen to podcasts while walking so worth it. I added the Rothy Camo sneaks and my favorite Vera Wang Sunglasses. A great walking outfit for heading into Spring.

A GREAT WEIGHT WATCHERS SOUP

I am back on Weight Watchers. If you have followed me long you know it is my standby for taking off extra pounds. I definitely put on a few covid pounds. This soup is one of my go-tos. It is super simple and you can add or subtract using ingredients you already have in your pantry. I add a pinch of red pepper flakes, a tablespoon of whatever fresh herbs I have on hand, and the juice and zest of 1/2 lemon.

Beth Djalali (Style at a Certain Age) Bathroom Remodel

I know many of you follow Beth from Style at a Certain Age. She recently redid her master bath and I just had to share it with you. Beth’s remodel proves that a bathroom can be big on style even if it isn’t large. She has some clever storage ideas that I think you will enjoy. Pop over and visit her blog here for the before’s and afters. If you aren’t following Beth on Instagram you might want to do so here.

TWO WILD AND CRAZY WOMEN on INSTAGRAM SANDY & CINDY

Sandra (who is actually quite an expert) and I did ( a crazy live (my first) regarding hooded eyes). I definitely need to hone my live skills but we had fun. She said” just be natural and don’t take it too seriously.” I learned a lot from the master. You can check out the amateur operation here on Sandra’s feed (can you believe she had the guts to post it here?) If you aren’t following Sandra on Instagram you are missing a lot of fun! You can also follow her on YouTube here. Let’s help her build her follower count!

YOU CAN SHOP FOR MY GLASSES HERE. THEY ARE DIRT CHEAP! The mascara came in my allure beauty box. I decided to try this so I could report back to you on new products. I am not making any money on this. I just thought it would be fun. The first items that came were really good including the mascara.

PRODUCTS USED ON LIVE

Well that’s it from me this week. What are you up to this weekend? We are off to Paso to visit our new home. Thanks for joining me for Trying to Get Fit in the New Year. Now pop over and visit Annie and Mary Ann for their Sunday favorites. FYI Thank you for all the wonderful comments about our soon to be new home. If I missed a comment please forgive me. Cindy and Sandra would be a great monthly video! I loved the live! You are both so funny and stylish. Love your Sunday posts, lots of great links and interesting ladies. Beth is amazing, and her bathroom looks so beautiful.

    Hi Cindy,
I was only able to watch part of the eye makeup video you did with Sandra. Now I can’t find it. Is it possible to see it again. If so how? I was enjoying it so much and getting such good tips. If you can help me I would greatly appreciate it!
    Thanks,
    Kathy

    Hi Cindy,
Great goal for 2022. But you already look in shape to me! Carbs and sweets are my downfall, I’m aware at least which is the first step! I do my yoga every day and walk on the beach on Sundays, both activities keep me feeling limber, strong and centered. That and all the running around I used to do. COVID lockdown and slowdown hasn’t helped any. I also learned that having nice workout clothes is half the battle!
Saw part of the tutorial with you two wacky gals, I need to go back and watch the rest! Sandra cracks me up.
Can’t wait to see more of your new house, so far I am loving it!
    Xo Heidi

      Hi Heidi

Carbs are my downfall but not sweets.I feel like COVID has made us all a little less active, although we gardened like H in our former home. Thanks for watching the two wild and crazy old ladies. I have a lot to learn. I appreciate you bearing with me.

Hi Cindy, I just watched the IG of you and Sandra – hilarious! You really made my day just being two wild and crazy friends! If I lived in California I would want to be friends with you both. I learned a lot too about what eye makeup works best for “our age” (almost 67). I alway ejoy your Sunday posts. I hope you and Sandra will do another video soon!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Kathy

You made my day! We would love to be friends with you as well. Kathy you are almost my age! Sandra and I plan to do more once I hone my skills. She was so kind to be so patient with me.

I had to look closely at your picture a few times to realize it was you. Its like you were unmasked. Normally, I see you with a big smile and big sunglasses, representing blog and business. This picture says “This is me. Cindy.” And you’re beautiful.

Didn’t we have fun!!!Loved doing the Instagram LIVE with you. Is it OK to say I love your Sunday blogs. It’s always jam packed with so many goodies. I mean you even got me interested in WW with that soup. Thank you for asking people to subscribe to my YouTube Chanel. I couldn’t figure out why suddenly I had 4 more followers. I thought they all watched my videos and loved them so much that they had to subscribe. Then I read the blog and realized you asked them too. I’ll take them any way I can get them. Ha!!! Really, thank you. Love the clothes you put together for exercising. I don’t think mine can compare. I won’t even show you my outfits. Anyway, we did have a great time together. Here’s to more!!!!

You and Cindy were super fun to watch. I learned several tips from you Sandra. Thanks! Now…if you would be willing to show us some painting tutorials!!

      • Sandra says

Ha! Thank you. I have been remiss because I haven’t figured out the best way to tell my story. I can tell you techniques but then you have to make it yours. Thank you again.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Thanks for coercing me into it Sandra. I have a lot to learn but it was a good starting point with you leading!!

  7. Lindsey says

The live tutorial was funny and relatable!
How fun it was to see you live after following you in photos for the past few years!
You are adorable! Love your style- outfits and decor. Sandy is amazing.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with the new home!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Lindsey

Thank you so much for humoring me. I am learning. I so appreciate your support.

  8. Denise Lawver says

Cindy, So glad you mentioned that you use WW (Weight Watchers) as a Lifetime member who has kept 100+ pounds off for almost 10 years I am living proof that it works. It truly is a lifestyle change & so glad I made it when I did. I get 10K plus steps a day, work-out in our rec center pool 5 days a week & yoga at least 3 times a month. I was diagnosed with RA last year so being in good shape really helps keep my pain under control (along with the drug)! Hopefully when I retire in a little over a year I can find a part-time job to keep active! Maybe I will go to work as a Weight Watcher Coach!!

Love your posts & finding that “slow fashion”….

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Denise

You are my WW hero. I have been on and off weight watchers since I was a teen. I am a huge fan. It is not complicated, crazy, or impossible. Anyone can do it. My husband always asks me why do you pay for that every month? I tell him security. I always know if my weight creeps up I can count on it to get me in line. I basically eat healthy 99% of the time, but when I don’t I just go back on WW. I need to get more excercise that is my goal for this year. You inspire me!!

  9. kim says

Cindy the tutorial was a lot of fun and though you say it wasn’t perfect, I actually learned a lot about the eyeshadow! I have to try the mascara everyone was raving about. Love this look for walking and popping over to get the jacket now! You always have the best style- even waking. Enjoy Paso. So excited for you. xo

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Kim

That jacket is a BARGAIN!! Sandra was so good to tutor me. I have a lot to learn but will work on it!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Linda

Sorry I linked it after the fact. It is at the bottom of the post. That lip color is a game changer for me. It is pricey but worth every penny if you have those lines around your lips like I do.

Keeping fit as we age is such a challenge, but once you find what you enjoy, it does become easier. I am 71+ living on Vancouver Island, so weather may be wet, but it’s also mild.
I do several different types of exercise throughout my week. Walking in my neighbourhood with my poles gives me a good waist workout along with the fast walk. I do that at least twice a week, visiting the beach down the road on my trip. I go once a week to my local pool for a morning deep water workout, ending with about 6 lengths, so I am working pretty hard for about 50 minutes… my short time in the hot tub with jets on my lower back and feet is my treat. I have two private Pilates sessions a week, which I love! And if it’s dry out and warmer, I am on my bike. A WaterRower is ready at any time for a power row, facing out to my garden with tunes on to help with my rhythm.
So the trick for me is to space out these different activities throughout my week, achieving a range of motion, and a balance of indoors and out. I am happiest when active. I can then settle in with a good book or tv with no remorse.
I am still struggling with weight loss…about 10 lbs would really feel good, but that is slowly happening .
The turkey meatball soup will be tried. I made a shrimp ball soup with bok choy recently that was delicious. Love what the internet provides for creative cooking! Thanks, Cindy.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cath

Could you come and be my personal trainer. I have always been a “worker” and that is how I got my exercise. Now that I spend so much time at the computer I have got to chang my ways!

  11. MP says

Great ideas! You don’t need the pricy earbuds — Buy a Apple lightening phone jack for your Iphone add usual earbuds to listen while walking/running. $10 The soup looks delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi MP

You are right although I could use the earpods for other work-related tasks.Thank you so much for the tip!!

  12. Marcia Rayne says

Thanks for the soup recipe. I gained 35 lbs in the last two years. I am embarrassed to admit that. Anyway, I went back to the South Beach diet bc I can drink wine and eat a small amount of chocolate. (Ha) I have lost 36 lbs since last September cutting back on carbs and sugars. Amazing what happens when you deprive your body of sugar.
Anyway, I know the weight watchers diet is a good ones and and easy to maintain. Good luck girlfriend! Knock ‘em dead!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Marcia

Sounds like we have the same problem…carbs! I do have my wine in the evening too. Basically I could follow any program that cuts down on carbs which are my downfall. I could care less about sweets, give me a yummy loaf of bread, pasta, pizza you name it! So happy you took the weight off. Isn’t it crazy what happened to us?

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Rita

I would not say they are “big” on arch support, but they aren’t awful. I am not sure if I am helping you. We all have our foot issues at our age don’t we?

  13. Kimberly Loy says

Cindy, just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your hooded eye tutorial with your friend, Sandra. We are in Arizona for a short time. Wish we could drive over and see you and Steve. Congratulations on the new house. You amaze me with what all you do. Take care, tell Steve we said hello.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Kim

You are so sweet. Wish you could drive over too. Once we move just make a trip out here. We would have so much fun!!

  14. Annie Diamond says

Hi Cindy! So much good stuff in one post! I love your outfit of the week. That jacket from Old Navy…I have to check that out. That soup looks delicious, I can see why it’s on repeat!

The AARP website…I never think to check it out and I had no idea that Denise Austin did the fitness section!

I love Beth’s bathroom remodel too! Beautiful! Loved your tutorial with Sandra! What fun!

    xx
