Join me on a New Adventure and Survey Results

Today I want to talk about the survey results and some news I have been waiting to share until now. There is never a dull moment in this household. We purchased a home in the Paso Wine Country in December. The former owners are renting it back from us so we will not be physically moving until April or May. Let’s chat about this post “Join me on a New Adventure and Survey Results.

We have been looking for a home in the Paso area for several years. We almost bought a lot very near this home four or five years ago. My husband is a contractor (nearing retirement) and was not interested in the stress of running a project from the ground up, or the care of an older home. I was hoping for a fixer upper in town but he wasn’t loving that idea. Several years passed and nothing materialized. In the meantime we decided to sell both our lake home and our Chualar home. Fast forward, we moved into one of our rentals and fixed it up. We have actually enjoyed living in town but missed the warmer weather, gardens, and a little more space.

Here is a sneak peek of our future digs. I love the entrance to the house. You enter via a small breezeway.

To a beautiful courtyard with an outdoor fireplace and lots of entertaining space. I am going to have a lot of fun with this space. The house is only five years old and in excellent shape.

The gardens are mature and well cared for.

It has a lovely pool for Summer and Beau.

I will share more once we move. The former owners have a beautiful art collection so the walls are all white. I think our furniture will work beautifully in the space. There is very little that will need to be changed ( a few things) but nothing that needs to be done right away. The property is quite a bit smaller than that of our former house and is about 1,000 sq feet smaller. It has an open floor plan which I am excited about.(according to the trends on it’s way out). I have never had one and think it will suit our lifestyle. The entire living area opens out to the pool and outdoor living area. Sooo..the crazy Hattersley’s are at it again. Stay tuned!!

Now on to the survey results. If you missed it you can read about THE CHD POSTS FROM 2021 THAT YOU FOUND MOST INTERESTING here. You overwhelmingly requested a wrap up weekly post. I am working on that and hope to have it rolled out by the end of the month. That way if you don’t have time to read a post, you can always catch up on Monday.

All my cute socks have holes in them! When I look online, they are either too thick, too thin, too short, too tall etc. A post o finding cute socks to wear with boots. Shorter than mid calf. A few inches above the ankle.

    Hi Cindy,
Your new home is amazing. How far is it from where your daughter, her husband, and Summer live? Paso is a favorite of several of my friends who love the area for their Pinot Noir. I know you’ll make the home your own and it will be a wonderful place to enjoy eventual retirement.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Pamela

Yes it is in Salinas in a very nice neighborhood, and there are a lot of good things happening in Salinas. I think it is just going to get better and better. We tossed around the idea of staying here and having a second home and just decided when we saw this house it was meant to be.

  23. Holly says

WOW! Beautiful new home and can hardly wait to see your magic touch on it. I will miss the little fixer-upper though. Such a cute little place. You’ll have no trouble finding renters. Watched you and Sandra this morning and was so entertained while learning so much about “older eyes”. You two are perfect together! The survey is just how I answered. Decor and Style….send more please!!!!! Have a great weekend and looking forward to seeing you in my in-box on Sunday!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Joanna

We feel very lucky to have found a home that suits us so well that will not need tons of work. I don’t care if open concept homes are out. I too love cooking and will love to be able to do it surrounded by my family and friends.

Cindy, congratulations on your new home! I look forward to seeing many photo-laden posts as you make it become your own beautiful expression. I have savored your process of transforming your rental into a little gem just as much as I have enjoyed the photos of your long-time home. Speaking from experience, I understand how challenging it is to make our things work in new spaces; you accomplish this with amazing speed and creativity.
Happy days to you and yours!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Amy

We have enjoyed this space. I hope we will find a good renter that will appreciate it’s character. We are looking forward to a new adventure. I think it is easy to get into a rut at our age and resist change. I am not looking forward to moving again so soon but luckily we have a lot of stuff in boxes!

  39. Dianne Conner says

    Be well

  45. Beth says

Congratulations on the new house! We rarely stay put either, renovated and moved 6 times in 22 years. Just finished #7. Oddly enough, I was in your new house about 4? years ago. We have friends who lived on that very street, and we met the people who owned your new house at that time. We were out in CA (where we are from. Have lived in New Orleans 25 years) visiting family and decided to head south to visit our friends in the Paso area. Small world to see that same house pop up today! Good luck with your move and all – always a fun adventure. Great choice on the house!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Beth

Oh my goodness what a small world! Do your friends still live there? Maybe we can meet one day. Beth do you follow Meet the Milnes on Instagram? Deb and Graham are full of fun and now live in New Orleans. If your friends still live there send me an email and I will go introduce myself once we move in, Better yet, stop by the next time you are in CA.

      • Beth says

        Cindy,
Just read your wonderful reply to my message! It is indeed a very, very small world. Our friends sold their house right before the pandemic and now wish they had not! Lovely, lovely neighborhood, and they miss it terribly. An impulsive decision that they now regret. Thank you so much for the lead on Deb and Graham – will certainly check them out. Speaking of small worlds, although New Orleans is a city of approx 400,000 people, the consensus is that it is really only 400 people because everyone seems to know, or is related to, everybody. Like living in a very small town. Very small interconnections happen daily. I adore your new home – lovely, and of course your neighborhood is fabulous! If our friends ever re-appear there, which is possible, I will certainly pass along their names…And, yes, would love to meet you sometime! Thank you so much for your kind reply,

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Sorry THAT you are giving up that fireplace. I really liked it!But things must move on, and the grass is always greener in the next house! Good luck with everything.
