Do you Love Artisans, Artifacts, and Vibrant Cities?

It’s Sunday so I am joining Annie and Mary Ann for our Sunday favorites. Do you Love Artisans, Artifacts and Vibrant Cities? Let’s talk about it.

JOHN DERIAN FOR TARGET

I know many of you follow the uber-talented John Derian on Instagram (john derian company here )or have visited his store in NYC.

His eponymous collections for Target never disappoint. I had some of his wonderful plates that we sold with our lake house that I am so sorry I left. His Thanksgiving line at Target does not disappoint. I am not a big proponent of holiday-specific decor but some of these Thanksgiving inspired items would be great hostess gifts.

CALLING ALL JILL SHARP WEEKS ENTHUSIASTS

If you live anywhere near Santa Fe and you dig Jill’s style, you won’t want to miss her curated collection at Shiprock Santa Fe. If you haven’t been to Shiprock Santa Fe, it is awe inspiring on it’s own. Jill hosted a book signing This sounds like a match made in heaven to me. I wish I were closer. Thanks Jill for letting us know.

OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

So many of you have asked for a sweater that is not wool. This sweater from Zara is only 11%. The earrings are from Machete, the readers are eye bobs. The scarf is Gerard Darel (a bit of a splurge), but it sure is gorgeous. The shoes are fabulous birdies, and J Jill has brought back my favorite boyfriend jeans.

MY NEW PAINTINGS BY HEIDI MICHELLE

The former owner’s of our home had an incredible art collection. Many of the areas of this home were built to highlight them. We have a wonderful grandfather clock that we purchased from an auction of friends. We loved and enjoyed it in our former home so we thought one of the niches in this home would be a suitable spot. I felt it needed to be surrounded by art that reflected the style of the clock. Heidi graciously worked with me to achieve what I believe is the perfect accompaniment to the clock. You can follow Heidi on Instagram here, or her art studio here.

A SUPER CHIC AIRBNB IN NOLA

Deb Milne was one of the “original bloggers”. She penned the blog Dumwitttellher filled with humor, renovating tips and all things Deb. I interviewed her and her charming husband Graham for Ageless Style back in 2020 here. Deb and Graham have recently renovated an oh so chic airbnb in NOLA. If you are traveling to NOLA you might want to check it out.

REMEMBERING THE INSPIRING JONI WEBB

Mary Ann and I started blogging and connected as friends in part by our connection and love for Joni Webb. Joni was a trailblazer in the blogging world. She inspired so many of us with her wit, humor, and knowledge and love of all things design especially the “Houston Look”. Mary Ann and I are preparing a post featuring the quotes of those who loved and were inspired by Joni. Our hearts go out to Ben “Mr. Slipper Socks” and her daughter Elizabeth and her sisters I hope she knows how much she was loved, respected and cherished.

That’s it from my desk this week. Thank you for reading Do you Love Artisans, Artifacts, and Vibrant Cities? I will be back on Tuesday with some jean styling. Is there something you would like to see more of here on Sunday? If so I would love to hear about it. Now let’s pop over and visit Annie and Mary Ann for their favorites.

    Cindy,

Joni was an amazing lady. I discovered her way back in the good old days of blogging and found her insightful, engaging, informative and so kind. Although we never met in person she was always so kind when responding to my emails and we exchanged several about all sorts of things over the years. She will be missed. I am heartbroken for her husband and her daughter Elizabeth. They have been through so much these last few years. RIP Joni, you were an amazing lady.

Deb, is also AMAZING. She is so talented and her work with Graham on all of their houses is inspiring. Deb is a wonderful friend and I miss her blog. Her Airbnb is fabulous I cannot wait to stay there.

John Derian is a favorite, I have several plates and trays of his and the store and book are fabulous too. I purchased a candle and a tray from the Target collection. Both were very nice.

This outfit is perfect for Fall! Love the red sweater and the scarf.
    Have a great week Cindy!

    Hi Cindy,
I’m so glad you are happy with your paintings. I love seeing them framed and in the spot for which they were intended!
Your fashion finds are always so tempting. If I buy one more thing I will need more days in the year to wear everything. But you do give me good styling ideas that I attempt to copy. I don’t know if I pull it off! Anyway I admire your style.
I’m way behind reading the blogs I subscribe to but glad it saw yours today!

So Very Very sad to hear about Joni’s passing. Thoughts and prayers go out to her family. She was one GREAT Designer and will always be remembered. RIP Joni.

      Hi Debbie

Joni was such an inspiration to all who knew her. Whenever we chatted she always made me laugh. Her sense of humor was contagious!

Oh my goodness I am in shock, I had no idea that Joni had passed. I am heartsick…I knew that Mr. Slippersocks had some health issues but this just comes as a complete shock. Had she been ill or was it sudden? She was so talented and funny and researched houses and gave us so much wonderful information..I learned so much from her I felt as if I knew her. Thank you for doing a tribute to her.

    Hi Cindy,
Thank you for such a fun post. I found some great John Derian items when he had Halloween items a few years back.
    I always love Sunday’s Favs.
I was so saddened and surprised about Joni Webb’s passing, much too early.

I love Heidi’s florals. They are perfect in the niche with the frames, the grandfather clock, the chairs and floor. Just lovely.

Cindy, it was such a shock to hear the news about Joni. I had just read her most recent blog post, as I have for years. What a terribly sad and tragic loss for her family … and the blogging community who love her so. On a happier note, Deb Milne is one-of-kind. I wish she’d bring her blog back but she’s busy renovating NOLA one beautiful old house at a time. Loved seeing your new art in person … Heidi is such a talent. Wish you a wonderful week. xo

      Hi Juliet

It was so fun getting to know you better. It is so sad about Joni, such a loss. We would sometimes chat back and forth late at night. Her humor was contagious!!

Hi Cindy, I just saw your love house on Mary Ann’s Sunday favorites. Can you tell me what color and brand white paint you used throughout? I am repainting and love the shade. Thanks!

  9. Sandra Sallin says

Another great one. I did not know John Derain. I’m planing on buying some objects for my daughter for Thanksgiving. That scarf???? I’ll see if I can resist. The last thing I need is another scarf. Always Sunday Fun!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Sandra

Oh you need that scarf. I was not familiar with that brand …it looks dangerous!!!

  10. Sarah says

I can’t wait for you to tackle the topic of jeans. I’m overwhelmed by the barrage of lengths and widths to choose from. How do women walk around with their hems dragging? Is ankle length still okay? I had finally given in and gone shopping for something more pricey ($200+) to see if they were truly as transformative as some claim. For me, the answer was no!

    Always love your Sunday posts!

Hi Cindy We went to Jill Sharps book signing and it was great. Food music and drinks. I think Shiprock enlarged so a lot to see. Loved the across the ceiling dried flowers by Jill. Also there was a reel online..you need to see. Eileen PS love the book!

    I’m speechless .

Havnt been to Target in years, I need to pop in.

While in Santa Fe we found a delightful business offered along with jazz music, a drink of your choice and to make clay art. Visually appealing clay creations, listening to a jazz duo and wine tasting, made for a sensory filling afternoon.

Our weather in Northern California has consistently been warm, I’ve noticed ladies wearing bright colored cotton skirts, statement jewelry and on others a pretty printed jackets. I’ve been on a search now for a similar skirt to add to my wardrobe, yes, I know it’s not the season! We’ve got a pacific cruise coming up in early February, a cotton skirt would be perfect. Cindy maybe you could help with my search. Meanwhile I’ll check out the resale shops.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Ann

That sounds like great fun! We haven’t been to Santa Fe in a while. I would check out Farm Rio on Ebay and Poshmark for some colorful maxi or midi skirts.

Happy Sunday Cindy. Great post that took me down the John Derian rabbit hole and yes, his Thanksgiving collection is enchanting. Putting that red sweater on order for the holidays. Enjoyed Mary Ann’s post on the creators weekend at your home. Some great images of your lovely home. I am so sad to hear about Joni. She had the most informative posts by digging deep into her subject. She is most definitely going to be missed in my inbox.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Holly

Don’t you love John D? Joni was one in a million, wasn’t she? I think her daughter is going to continue the blog.

  15. Mary Ann Pickett says

I loved seeing you this week. I didn’t know Heidi did the art I was admiring around the grandfather clock!

  16. Cheryl P says

The art arrangement around your stunning grandfather clock is beautiful…love, love, love! Thanks for the update on John Derian for Target, will check out. And lastly, I think it is wonderful that you and Mary Ann are working on a tribute to Joni. She was remarkable, and I am looking forward to your post honoring her.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cheryl

Thank you. I have taken forever to get the art framed! I found a great framer online! Mary Ann and I thought Joni deserved a full tribute. She inpired all of us so much!
