Chic Affordable Picks from Zara’s Spring Collection for Women Over 50

Finding stylish and affordable clothing can be a challenge, especially for women over 50. I love Zara for affordable fashion. I have selected some well made basics from Zara’s Spring Collection that might be just what you need to revamp your wardrobe without breaking the bank. Let’s take a look at some chic affordable picks from Zara’s spring collection for women over 50.

Zara Affordable Spring Picks for Women Over 50

Zara has been known in the past as a “fast fashion” retailer. They are working on becoming a more sustainable brand with affordable prices. Here are a few of my favorite finds from Zara that you can mix and match to create endless stylish looks:. Zara’s knitwear selection is always on point, and they offer a variety of tees that are perfect for layering. I purchased four and I am a fan of all four. All of the Zara items are linked in bold. Zara is not a member of LTK. The rest of the items are linked at the bottom of the page.

My pictures are very poor. Hopefully, you can see the detail of the items. The weather was not very accommodating. Here I am wearing a great black maxi/midi ( a great travel option that also comes in white) with a crewneck gray tee in cotton (also comes in white and gray) with sneakers and a white jeans jacket. I am always on the hunt for some great knits (cotton) that don’t break the bank. Tees seem to last only a couple of seasons at best.

I love the parachute pant trend. They are practical, classic, casual, lightweight and comfy. If your arms don’t look like mine you could wear these with flip flops and a tank. I am wearing the same gray tee as above. This outfit would be great with casual sandals closer to summer. Both of these items have very affordable price points I am wearing a small in both.

In this photo I am wearing a classic black tee ((the same style as the gray above). The utility pants with belt are more of a splurge from Banana Republic. These pants are non-wrinkle, classic and great for travel. I wear them on the plane often. I am wearing them with a Birdies Loafer (no longer available but similar here) and my Rag and Bone bag that is also great for travel (my laptop fits in it). FYI Birdies is still having their 30% off sale. It’s a great time to grab your favorites! There are also many styles available on Poshmark here.

I love this flattering black denim skirt from Zara. I am wearing (a small) it with my MZ wallace sling, black sneakers (I have new Cariuma’s on order). I plan to have this skirt hemmed about an inch. I am 5’4 and it is a little long on me. This is from the Zara collection, so it is a bit more pricey.

Here I am wearing the parachute pants with the black tee, older scarf, athleta bag and olukai sneaks. This outfit is is very similar to the above look styling-wise. Perfection in my book for comfort.

Kim and I are covering white shirts next week on Signature Style. I LOVE this white shirt from Zara. It has beautiful cut-out detailing on the sleeves and front. It looks much more expensive than it is. I am wearing a small and it fits beautifully. This pleated denim skirt is super flattering, it is also a small.

This knit top is somewhat sheer (here in olive green) (cotton), and it comes in other colors. I am wearing a tank under it. I accessorized it with a simple horn necklace (sustainable) and vivaia loafers.

This Treasure and Bond dress from Nordstrom (also a little long on me), I featured a week or so ago in my outfit of the week. I thought you would like to see how it fits. You could easily wear a cute knit sweater with this ensemble if you don’t care for jean jackets. I am 5’4 130 lbs.

Hi I am about your same size and age 🙂 I was wondering if you could let me know what size tshirts your order from Zara

Love all of your outfits Cindy. You always look effortlessly chic! Zara does have some beautiful pieces. Thanks for the tips.

Hi Cindy, These styles are all so “YOU”. I wonder if you shopped at Zara in Walnut Creek? You must have been able to try on rather than just order on line to find such workable outfits. The all white outfit is stunning on you with your hair color. I have a Zara white linen blouse from about 10 years ago that has very fine detailing i.e. a quilted yoke, pocket placket and cuffs. The linen is so sheer that is has one tiny hole but I continue to wear it since I think it’s too small to be seen.
I can’t wait to go to a brick and mortar Zara when I’m back!

      Hi Wren

I find that the stores do not have as many options. I do shop for Summer at Zara in Walnut Creek when I can. I find it easier to order online and return what doesn’t work.

I am always sad when I see people recommending Zara. They are reasonably priced because the company pays their employees, most of whom are women, a pittance for 10, 12 and, sometimes, 14 hour days. The company is owned by Amancio Ortega, a Spanish billionaire businessman. His estimated net worth is $54 billion. Yes, that is billion with a B. He is about 87 years of age. How much more money does he, and his family, need? So, ladies, when you buy from Zara, think of your sisters slaving over their sewing machines in the poor parts of the world in order for you to buy reasonably priced clothing.

I’m sure Zara is not the only manufacturer with these working conditions. We could sew our own clothes, but then what about the fabric that is made – who made it? The entire system is a mess.

Thank you, Cindy, for your posts which I find inspiring.

      • Cindy Hattersley says

        Hi Mary

You are right the entire system is a mess. I understand Caroline’s position. We all try to do our best, but as I said to her, I feel it is my obligation to offer some affordable options as well.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Caroline

I completely understand your thoughts. I do from time to time have to offer affordable options to my readers. I prefer natural fabrics and buying from those who are good citizens of the world, but not everyone can afford them. I do my best to support all my readers.

You look fabulous! I’m off to check out the tees and the parachute pants – thrilled that they’re mid-rise and that I read that mid-rise is coming back!
I’ve put off buying jeans because I think high rise jeans show off pot bellies by zipping up and in, over the top of the belly. Not flattering for 70+’s and those with curves, very age-ing IMO. Also, when you have heavy boobs, which I do, there’s little room between top of jean and boob. If it was a dress, we’d look as if we were wearing Regency or empire-line clothes!
Also love your hair length – you look super! Thanks for a marvellous post.

  6. Margo says

Thanks for these great picks! I always enjoy your posts. I ordered the denim skirt and I’m sure I’ll love it, but I probably will have to get it hemmed too. When you hem yours are you going to keep the frayed edge?

  7. Heidi says

    Hi Cindy,
I’m stuck isolating with COVID , and I got into trouble with this post! I ordered the skirt and the blouse and can’t wait until they arrive!
You always pick the best pieces and I love how you style your wardrobe, I’m inspired every time.
    Xo Heidi

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Heidi

Oh no! You will love the skirt and blouse and they will look fabulous on you!!

I’m increasingly concerned about synthetic fibers shedding into our water supply and causing harm to the environment, fauna and humans so I’m only buying natural fibers these days. I really liked the full maxi skirt with pockets, but alas, it’s not 100% cotton. The sheer top is, but comes only in large, medium and small. I’m quite small (5’1″ and 107 lbs, so I doubt it would fit me. Oh well.

That said the clothes look super on you!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cara

I personally don’t care for synthetic fibers as a rule. 95% of the garment I own are. I do digress on occassion for a travel friendly piece like the skirt and pants.

  9. Michell says

I just love your look Cindy. I want to look like you! Classy & stylish. I always thought of Zara as being the “young” girl shopping store. But I’ll have to try them out. Thanks for sharing your talent with us! – Michell

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Michell

I think we can find things everywhere. They often just need to be styled more appropriately for our age.

  10. Francesca B says

    Hi Cindy,
I bought the white shirt you recommended it looks lovely and high end.
I love the denim skirt too (but a girl has to stop somewhere),but you rock the look truly!
    Great post thank you.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Francesca

That blouse is a great find. It reminds me of something from Anne Fontaine without the price tag.

  11. Diane E Ruebel says

    CINDY!

What a wonderful high/low selection and you wear them ALL beautifully. Once again, you inspire me to stick with my capsule wardrobe.

i can’t find a link for the blue denim pleated skirt. Could you please send it?

    Happy almost Spring,
    Diney on Mercer Island

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Diney

I linked the denim skirt in the first photo. I am sorry I failed to do it in the second one!

      • Mary Ellen says

Thank you for this post. I love the black denim skirt; however, I am unable to follow the link. The first link shows several skirts, but not the black pleated denim one with the frayed hem. Then although it is on your Zara favorites link, it for lug sole sandals and does not give information for the skirt. The search feature also fails to bring up the skirt you feature in your blog. I don’t know how I’m missing it, but I am. Could you please send the link again?

        Thank you so much,

  12. Marlene Ertel says

I love Zara fashion. They look great on you.
Especially the the tees with how you tied your scarf. Is that a knot on the end.

  13. Sue says

I too love long sleeve tees year round cuz the arms aren’t as happy as they once were😂. I might have missed it; but, did you say the size you are wearing in the tee? Thank you! I always enjoy your posts❤️

  14. Helene Worden says

Thank you Cindy for sharing all these wonderful ideas to keep us women over 50+ looking attractive and feeling good about ourselves. I love seeing you in these different outfits. You always look so beautiful. You are my motivation to try to look my best !

    • cindy says

You are very kind Helen. Trust me it takes the right light and numerous photos to get a good one!! Gloomy weather is very unforgiving!!

  15. Pat Cowan says

I love hearing about long sleeve Tees. I wear them year round, especially with the air conditioning in the summer, besides the fact I’m always cold. I can’t imagine that some stores don’t carry long sleeve in the summer. Besides the fact that for anyone over 60……they are a must have!

  16. dianne says

I love love love Zara! Their pants almost always fit! Just bought a super cute pair of wide leg jeans and a cute sweat top and pants that could almost pass for Frank and Eileen. I LOVE your picks and you look So cute in each and every one.
I am kind of glad we don’t have a Zara close – more fun that it is a novelty store.

  17. Bette says

    >>I purchased four and I am a fan of all four.

I can’t remember the last time I said this — if ever, LOL!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Bette

I feel like those separates are just great! Glad you do too…sorry the pictures were so awful!!

  18. Joanna says

The parachute pants are cute for warmer weather. Unfortunately, they are a mid rise and being tall it makes them even lower. While I know rises are lowering again I just can’t go back to mid rise. High rise is comfortable on my 5’8” body.
I’m looking forward to the white shirt post coming up. I hope some are no iron so they stay crisp throughout the day. Plus, I’ve hide my iron so I can’t iron anymore. New house policy. lol

  19. Juliet says

Thanks for showcasing Zara with some really cute pieces. I’m always on the hunt for good tees, especially long sleeved.xo

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Yes! They actually have one that hits at the elbow that is good too! You can go to Walnut Creek and check them out lucky duck!!
