OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

Even though we have at least a couple of months of “summer” left here in California, I am thinking about fall. This fabulous linen duster from Sundance will be a great transition piece. I paired it with a favorite gauze shirt from J Crew, BR jeans (on sale) woven birdies (which I own), a woven leather tote from Etsy, and a great pair of turquoise earrings on sale at Sundance. They are having their annual Outlet Sale Event right now. All outlet items are 40% off already marked-down prices. If there is something you have had your eye on, it is a great time to pull the trigger.

INA GARTEN’S HEIRLOOM TOMATO SALAD WITH BLUE CHEESE

We had friends over for dinner last night and I made this simple Heirloom Tomato Salad from Ina Garten. It is a great alternative to the typical Caprese salad. I forgot to take pictures of course. It is simple and delicious. The perfect option when it is too hot to cook.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA STYLE’S TRAVEL POST ROUNDUP

Kim from Northern California Style recently did a roundup of her travel posts here. If you are planning a trip in the upcoming year you might enjoy this feature.

SUMMER LOVE

Summer is at such a darling age right now. Her family had a trip planned for Yosemite this weekend but had to cancel due to the smoke. We feel very fortunate to have them for a few days.

Summer-July-2022

Well, that is it from my end. Speaking of Kim, we will be joined by Sarah on Tuesday for our Signature Style series. You can catch up on all of our former Signature Style Posts here. We will be talking about linen (you know what a fan I am), so it should be fun. Thank you for reading Do you Love Tomatoes, Traditional Style, Gardens and Travel? I will be back with my pals Sarah and Kim on Tuesday. Now pop over and visit Annie and Mary Ann for their Sunday favorites.

    Cindy,
Your Sunday post is always a favorite. First, Summer…she is adorable and any time you mention time with her it makes me smile. Some of the happiest memories of my life are with my grandmother and I am sure Summer will be the same.
Annies’ outdoor space is beautiful, she always has the most creative ideas.
    Ina always has delicious recipes!
I concur with the Contessa, although I love so many of the pieces that you feature I need nothing. Maybe if I get rid of something or lots os things.
    Have a wonderful week.

Summer looks so happy … glad you were able to get additional time with her. Sad about Yosemite though. Hoping for a new Jenny Rose Innes book … soon. Her homes are an endless source of inspiration. I’m sure her new home will be even dreamer. Love your fall outfit. Fall is my favorite season and as its heating up here I’m looking forward to cooler days. Speaking of inspiration, Annie’s porch and Kim’s travel roundup are so good. Wishing you the best week! xo

Cindy! Summer is so adorable! And she looks like she’s always up for fun and adventure! Just like her grandma!
Thank you so much for including our little porch, that was so generous of you!
I love that gold coat from Sundance. The lining looks fun too! Happy to be introduced to Jenny Rose Innes!

      Hi Annie

Summer is tons of fun at this age. Isn’t that coat just great? Do I need it? No!!

  4. Karen B. says

I love the look of that salad. I may have to make that this week. The Sundance sale is amazing. I’m making the list. 🙂
I’m ready for fall, but I know I must be patient…late October typically starts to resemble fall in CA and even that’s a little early.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Karen

You are right that Sundance sale is a good one. We really don’t have fall until Christmas either!!

  5. LA CONTESSA says

    SUMMER IS SUPER CUTE!
    LOVE THAT DRESS ON HER!
I NEED NADA………WHICH TRANSLATE TO NOTHING AS YOU KNOW!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Eliz

That dress was a hand-me-down from a cousin. Isn’t it cute? It just suits her!!

  6. Kelly LIngel says

    Cindy,
Can antique, gilded gold beveled mirrors still be used in a transitional home in a stylish way? Would you recommend “dulling” the gold look with an antique dark wax? Is there another way to make them more stylish now? I want to use them in my bathroom, but I don’t know if they will work. Thank you.
    Kelly

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Kelly

I sure think so! I always “darken” any gold that is too brassy for my taste. You can do it with stain or wax. I have used both.

  7. Katie says

    Cindy,
It’s been so fun (and relatable) to follow your moving escapades! We moved 4 times in 3 years. From Arroyo Grande to the Seattle area. What a change! We’ve been in Gig Harbor for 5 years and just finished a 5 year remodel. You can guess what that means. Time to move again. My husband is retiring in April and we’re moving back to the Central Coast. I’ve missed it everyday since we left. I so enjoy your style and grace and humor. Seeing you shop in SLO makes my heart melt. I look forward to your blog and am really happy for you that you’ve landed in a gorgeous estate in Paso. Thank you for sharing all your adventures.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Katie

My husband “plans” to retire at the end of this year. We have even more than you think in common! It is hard to leave California in spite of all its’ problems isn’t it? We just love it here. We must meet for coffee or a glass of wine when you return!

      • Katie says

That would be a fun treat! We do have much in common. One of my main reasons to move back are my grand babies. They are such a blast and I want lots of time with them. I love seeing pictures of Summer. Enjoy every sweet moment.

  8. Deborah says

After your great post last week, Cindy, I visited Maison Marianne in SLO. I loved it! In fact I went a little crazy. The delightful owner Marianne stocks beautiful and sustainable clothes. Thank you for the recommendation

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Deborah

I am so happy to hear that. Doesn’t Marianne do a great job? I know I will continue to get into trouble there as well! Love to support local small businesses.

  9. Homebeforedark says

Love the salad idea. Here in Kansas it’s been too hot for lettuces! So the tomatoes salad is a splash. I’m preparing the menu for our 47th anniversary (and it was hella hot in 1975!). Still having groceries delivered! UGH! Summer is adorable. Wonderful age. Wonderful times.

Ps I apologize for the email I sent you when I suggested a round table in your new space when I showed my husband your work of art, I read that you had already discounted that idea. It was what I will forever refer to in moments like this as a “seasoned citizen” moment!!! (Stole that from an OU football blog of all spaces!) I was so excited about that lantern you and Steve crafted from “bits and bobs” of days gone by—-that you could find them after two moves and your made a splendid fixture…and hung it high! WOWOWOW!!!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Patricia

It is hot everywhere right now, isn’t it? We got married in 1975 too! How did we get to be this age? I would have loved to have put a round table in that space but with that little niche it just had to have something in there. I tried the bench and didn’t really like it. Anyway, I have always wanted a round entry table but just don’t think it will work there…darn it! But who knows! I always love suggestions! Never ever apologize. That is why I ask!

  10. debra @ 5th and state says

another fun read Cindy. off to the store, have to make this tomato salad!
    thanks pal
    Debra

  11. kim says

Cindy how nice you get Summer for a bit. I bet she loves being with you and having the pool and Beau! She really is at the most fun age.
I am crazy about that duster and may need to order it, The color is beautiful. I hope you got it. I can see you wearing it! Love the bag too. Sundance always has great things and if anyone is in Salt Lake City, you can find the outlet which is huge, on the way to the airport and it’s fantastic. I am hoping to go when I visit Grif in September at school.
Thank you for mentioning the travel post! Have a great weekend. xo

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Kim

Summer is a great age. Oh boy wouldn’t I love to hit that outlet! Do we even have a store here anymore?

  12. Mary Ann Pickett says

Summer is just the cutest ball of fun!
I’m excited to follow Jenny Rose Innes.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mary Ann

Summer is full of joy that is for sure! Hope you had a wonderful shower. Can’t wait to see more of it. Time is getting close.

  13. Lori H says

I’m a bit smitten to finally find someone (and now 2 Annie!) that have my sense of style for my age. This style isn’t “old” it’s a perfect fit for the transitional days we seem to fall into when we just aren’t teens anymore. Love the duster and plan to look it up. I’ve learned from those in the Caribbean on many trips that a cool long linen sweater or duster style goes well with anything..even a cute pair of short!
    Love the blog Cindy!!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Lori

I am so glad to hear that! I agree. We do not want to be old ladies or teenagers! Thank you!

  14. Janet Arden says

Happy Sunday! Thanks for the tip on that duster from Sundance. It comes in petite sizes too! I also just love Jenny Rose Innes and can’t wait to see her new house and gardens. Her IG is one I can go back to and just study.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Janet

I am glad you brought that up. I forget to mention the sizing often, and I know it is so important! I am hoping Jenny does a book on her new home.

  15. Gray says

I love that duster so much! If that was my color, I would grab it.
I also love tomatoes, but don’t seem to be able to find good ones anymore. They are all mealy to me – searching….

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Gray

Have you tried growing heirlooms? I think they are so much better. I have had much better luck with them.

  16. Tracie Cain says

We are traveling to your area for the first time in early october. Any must dos? Places to eat or shop? I LOVE your personal and home style and really enjoy your posts! Thank you!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Tracie
