Stylish Travel-Friendly Outfits for Women Over 60
Let’s face it—traveling after 60 doesn’t mean stuffing a suitcase with unstylish comfortable clothes and calling it a day. Whether you’re heading off to Tuscany (I wish), driving up the coast, or simply heading to visit the grandkids, you deserve to feel as fabulous as the fun you have planned. So, let’s talk about how to pack stylish travel-friendly outfits for women over 60 that won’t wrinkle your style or your clothes!!
Today, I’m joining some of my travel-savvy blogging friends for a bit of travel fun. Over the years, I’ve shared plenty of posts on packing tips and travel essentials—you can find all of those here. While I don’t have any trips planned just yet (we’re not quite ready to leave our little “Terminator” for too long), I thought I’d share a few of my favorite travel-friendly outfits to inspire your next getaway.

Travel Days Travel-Friendly Outfits
I don’t want to look like I just crawled from my bed to the plane (or car) but I do want to be comfortable. There are so many great travel outfits available now, The possibilities are endless. Frank and Eileen have the best terry travel sets in my opinion, but the cost can be prohibitive. I just got back from Autocamp at Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks. I lived in mine while there. The quality of the terry is incredible and you can mix and match them to create multiple options

The Carmel Travel Set is probably my favorite. I own it in black and white (which of course isn’t as practical color wise for travel). I also love the Aspen Travel Set, and for summer the Malibu Travel Set has my heart. If you see me around town, more than likely I will be wearing one of these options (admittedly they are my daily uniform). I am loving the new red colorway here.

Eileen Fisher’s terry options are very nice as well, just not quite as heavy.

Wrinkle Resistant Fabrics
I love linen and I embrace the wrinkles, but I know many of you don’t feel the same way. Poplin is a great fabric for travel because it’s lightweight, breathable, and resists wrinkles. Choose pieces that you can wear multiple ways. Dresses that can be dressed up for dinner, or worn casually with sneakers or sandals. Crisp tops that can be worn on their own, or with jackets or a sweater.

Heidi Houston (a small woman owned compay) carries beautifully designed poplin separates that I am wearing in the top three photos. Her shirts and dresses hit just at the elbow, which I love. Mersea ( a company I partner with regularly is known for their travel pieces) Above is their Birdie Maxi Dress, and their Sonnet top in gold (skirt available as well). I wore the olive green duo seen here to the LTK conference last fall and it popped out of my suitcase without a wrinkle. Both dresses would be great for easy dinners or lunches out.

Layers
Travel clothing this time of year can be a bit tricky. We just returned from a trip to the Sierras, where the weather kept us on our toes—the first day was chilly and drizzly, while the second was warm and sunny. To stay prepared, be sure to pack a lightweight jacket, a cozy sweater, or a versatile wrap that can be styled in multiple ways to suit changing conditions.

The Mersea cotton cashmere wrap is a personal favorite, as well as the catalina sweater. The red go lightly wrap adds a pop of color and comes in multiple colors.

Just heading out for 5 weeks in my carryon. I always come to your site before packing for inspiration. I have a lot of EF pants and basic dresses as a starting point and then see what I can add to change things up from you. I love cashmere, wool, cotton and linen for tops, and taking a few of your dress suggestions this trip. I love the F&E but price is crazy with exchange for a Canadian so have a wide leg pant, a ponte pant and two tops all in same shade from EF that are great travel outfits. Thanks for the inspiration, love your site.
Hi Beth
Yeah!! Eileen Fisher is such a great company, and I love that they keep things in their line for a long time so you can add to them!
The Frank and Eileen travel sets look very stylish, but I get so hot on aircraft, I would over heat and with the Aussie exchange rate so grim, F&E sets are closer to $900, so I am afraid they are a pass for me (with much regret).
Hi Susan
I certainly understand that. I like the Eileen Fisher sets too. I have had mine for years. They are also more lightweight.
Love the Frank & Eileen terry set. It time for me to stop admiring it and add it to my closet. You always look pulled together and polished … whether in Sequoia or Paris. Thanks for the tips. xo
Hi Juliet
Thank you! You travel so much I bet you would love them!!
Hello from Tuscany! I switched up my wardrobe plan at the last minute because it looked like it would be raining most of my trip. I threw in more sweaters and a pair of ankle boots that are water proof. Now here, it’s only sprinkled very slightly so good thing I planned on layering. Like one of our guides said, dress like an onion. My choice for what to wear on a very long flight was the Quince cashmere pants and hoodie with a long sleeved tee and that worked well. I had to wear it one extra day when the airlines lost my luggage for the first 3 days!!
OMG I forget you were in Tuscany! Can’t wait to hear about it!!
Hi Cindy thank you for a wonderful post.l ordered the Heidi dress, that olive green and the fact it’s all cotton is such a winner and it is lovely to support women businesses. Have a lovely weekend. Xo
Hi Francesca
I was so impressed with the Heidi Houston line. I am loving all the poplin options. The sleeve length is great too!
You always have the best travel outfits, Cindy! I’ve been eyeing those linen travel sets from Frank & Eileen; may have to snap one up for my next summer road trip…
Hi Susan
I love the Tuscany linen set…I wear it all the time!!
Cindy, you look beautiful in all of your outfits. I agree with both you and Annie, buying quality pieces that you wear often and love are worth the extra money.
I am a dress and skirt person, they are easy to style and so comfortable.
Have a wonderful weekend Cindy!
P.S. Love you in the red scarf!
Coming your way next week! We had to cancel last summer due to a health scare. I appreciate all the info you shared. Looks like it maybe cool, 60’s. Bringing a couple of linen things in case there are warm days, too. These terry sets are ready to go 🙂 So excited!
Are all the pants cropped length in the Frank and Eileen sets? I prefer full length pants. Just wondering. I am 65 inches tall.
Cindy, such great tips on traveling clothes. I always bring a wrap on the plane because so often it is freezing (or way too hot). I also never wear white pants. Once when I was traveling for business and the seats on the plane were cloth, someone spilled a Coke which absorbed into the fabric. The minute I sat down I realized something was wrong. My white pants looked like I had a bowel problem and it was hours before I could change out of them. Dark colors to me since then! I will share this post on my Saturday Meanderings this week too!
Hi Mary
I agree…I am not one to wear white on the plane! Asking for trouble!!
We went to Italy in 2023. I ordered one of those coverlets from India and made it into a kimono. I wore it a lot. On the plane, as a housecoat and to throw on to run down and get coffee in the a.m. We packed light so I needed versatile pieces especially since we were in Rome and then did a Mediterranean cruise with our kids.
Hi Deb
Your kimono sounds fabulous! I am planning a post on statement coats soon!!
Cindy,
I love how you mixed the camel brown bandana scarf with the white outfit. May I ask where to find that scarf? Thank you.
Janet Majors
I am a scarf collector. I always feel outfits are raised to a different level with a scarf! I agree with you about the brown scarf. I also would like to know its source.
Thank you.
Hi Nancy
I am an admitted scarfaholic as well. @crimsoncashmere on IG, currently out of stock. I checked the Destin website https://www.destinsurl.com/en/accessories/bandanas/, they do not currently have it but I just ordered the red!!
Hi Janet
I purchased it on sale from Linda V Wright @crimsoncashmere on Instagram. The brown is currently sold out. I contacted the shop and asked if they would be restocking. The Destin website does not currently have the brown bandana scarf either but here is the link https://www.destinsurl.com/en/accessories/bandanas/
The inseam on the pants on many of the models on the F&E site seem to hit very low but not in your pictures. Do you find that to be an issue or is it because they are so tall and thin maybe? I definitely don’t like that look.
Hi Connie
The beauty of the F&E sets is they have a raw hem. If they are too long, you cut them off with scissors. I have one pair that is too long and I keep forgetting to cut them off!
Sitting in the airport in a set right now.
I made the investment in the F&E sets and I mix and match the pieces. I pair them with sneakers or boots and a Turkish towel wrap. I have pieces in baby and white and stripes. I never have to think about what to wear on the plane again. Yes they are $$ but I agree with Annie…. I will wear them until they wear out.
Hi Gray
I couldn’t agree more. I usually wear the same set going and coming if I am trying to pack light! I have one on right now as I am heading to get my nails done!
Love the red tapestry bag and mules in the third picture. Where did you get those?
Hi Linda
Where it says shop frank and eileen travel sets, if you tap the arrows on either side of the photos you can scroll left or right to reveal all the photos. Click on the photo and it will take you there.
Hi Cindy,
What did you think of the auto camp in the Sequoias? I’ve been interested in them and would enjoy your feedback.
Katie
Hi Katie
Loved autocamp!! Will be giving a full report on Sunday!!
I love these travel outfit ideas! I have wanted to try a Frank & Eileen set forever now, and I think I will pull the trigger!
Hi Noelani
You won’t regret it!
You always look so put together. I love your sense of style. Skirts are a great option for travel and layers are a must for me.
Hi Jennifer
I prefer skirts over dresses because they are an easier fit for me too!!
I have really been loving cotton poplin too…especially in the summer! Good point about shopping your closet. Love all your hats and wraps, too.
Cindy! I love your style! You wear those matched sets so well for travel or everyday! The Frank & Eileen may be expensive, but I always consider the CPW. When you wear something that you love often, the cost per wear makes it worth every penny! Frank & Eileen pieces get better with age!
xo
Annie
I appreciate this response. I just can’t see why these things cost $400!
Hi Darlene
I understand your frustration. Give the Eileen Fisher that I linked to a try. The terry is the nicest terry I have ever worn. These outfits are like a great pair of jeans as Annie says. I literally live in them all the time. If you consider that, the price may be worth it. What I find painful is a dress that costs over 500 that I might only wear a couple of times.
