Curated Fall Fashion Wishlist for Stylish Women over 50

Today I am joining my pal Kim for our monthly Signature Syle Series. The leaves will soon be turning and chilly days are ahead. Fall is my favorite time of year for fashion. It is always interesting to check out the fall “trends.” Do I follow them? Not necessarily. However, there is often something I can “curate” to suit my own personal style. Let’s take a look at my Curated Fall Fashion Wishlist for Stylish Women over 50

MY CURATED FALL FASHION WISHLIST

All items in the graphic are linked in the widget below except the Zara denim skirt (here), the Quince leather jacket (here), and the Quince tote (here), and the Quince V-neck here.

A Great Cashmere Sweater

A lightweight cashmere sweater in camel, charcoal, black or navy that you can wear often with many separates.

I love Quince for their quality and prices. I lost many of my sweaters in the move, including the one above. I have chosen this v-neck from Quince (but I sized up, I like mine roomy), this batwing version in my normal size, and this crewneck to replace the one above I sized up in this one as well. This long line cashmere sweater from Saks is also priced well. I have always had great luck with J Crew cashmere sweaters but they are a little pricier.

A White Shirt with Great Details

Most of us already have a staple white button down. How about a couple of blouses with interesting details to wear with blazers, jackets, jeans or skirts?

This shirt is no longer available (there are a few on eBay here). I ordered this shirt from J Crew (you will see it in my fall fashion post), and I am not a ruffle person. I think this little number from Brooks Brothers would be great with a fun blazer. This shirt from Sezane is my favorite. I love the throwback Victorian look.

Lug Sole Loafer

I have my eye on this vionic lug sole loafer that comes in wide. Have any of you tried them?

Woven Leather Tote

I am on the hunt for a leather tote that will fit my laptop when I am traveling. I think this Quince version is the best as the straps appear sturdy.

Leather or Faux Leather Jacket

I have owned these two jackets for years. Quince has a really similar jacket to the one on the left in faux leather here . Nordstrom Rack has a great faux leather dupe for my “vintage” moto jacket here, or Banana Republic has a similar natural leather version here.

Leather of Faux Leather Skirt

I am seeing a lot of midi faux and natural leather skirts this year. I have had this one for too many years to count. Mine came from the Banana Republic a million years ago. This one from BR is very similar. I also like this zara faux leather midi.

Denim Midi or Maxi Skirt

Threre are so many to choose from in every price imaginable. Jennifer and I are doing a post on these this month. Some of them look like they would be hard to walk in. I have this one from Zara. It fits great and is comfortable to walk in. I will be sharing it in our upcoming post.

Interesting Boots or Booties

I found a pair of Pedro Garcia lug sole boots on super sale in town. They are similar to these from All Saints,

all saints lug sole bootie

or these from Aquatalia

Interesting Shoes

The mules (slippers) from Artemis are my go to.They graciously sent me a pair of my choosing, so I am a lucky girl. I will be sharing them on Thursday.

A Great Scarf or Wrap

For simple cashmere wraps the J Crew pashmina, and the cashmere wrap are hard to beat. The wrap is currently on sale. There are also some new colors this season. Etsy has some beautiful embroidered wool cashmiri scarves here in all price ranges.

A Blazer or Jacket with Interesting Details

I am thinking of something that would elevate a pair of jeans for wine tasting, tailgaiting, or dinner. If money were no object I would order this military inspired jacket from Rag and Bone in a heartbeat. I love a military inspired look. I love the buttons, the fit, and everything about it.

eBay is a great place to frind interesting affordable jackets from past seasons . How about an artistic one from Biya?, If you like the lady jacket craze, you can find many from past years here.

Artistic, vintage inspired or Native American Jewelry

How about an interesting necklace with vintage or personalized details, or a piece of Native American jewelry? You can find great Native American Pieces on eBay. Etsy has great one of a kind or vintage inspired jewelry. Shop vintage and second hand stores as well. Parham Studio, H Cheval, Kara Brown Designs, and Paula Carvalho have great vintage inspired pieces.

Thank you for your posts. I always enjoy reading them and looking at the photos. I’m so glad you mentioned Quince. I’ve seen ads but didn’t know anything about the company. I got burned last year by a company that turned out to have beautiful pictures, but the product I bought was hideous in person. Trying to get a refund afterward was a nightmare.

      Hi Nan

I tried Quince on the advice of many of you readers. Their cashmere is wonderful. More on that coming in a couple weeks!

    Hey there!
I’m interested in knowing how the Artemis slides fit since they just come in whole sizes. Do you size up or down?

  5. Barb L says

Well…my fall list includes a white shirt, black tunic and has just grown after reading this. I’ve had a similar loafer (in patent leather) and I get compliments on them every time I wear them (comfy too). Your turquoise necklace is stunning. I look forward to this series with you and Kim.

Got the Born lug sole loafers in cordovan. Takes me back to my middle school Weejuns. Visited the Santo Domingo Pueblo art show for some beautiful jewelry. Have a hand me down leather moto from a friend so looks like I am on point for fall! Thank you so much for the guidance and inspiration.

Cindy! That Rag & Bone military jacket is too good … swoon. And I’m 100% on board with lug sole loafer and boots. You and Kim have given me so many ideas and inspirations for fall. Fall dressing is the best, right? And its starting to cool down here so bring on the cashmere et al. xo

    Cindy,
Your monthly style posts with Kim are one of my favorites. You both have such great fashion sense and know what works for your body and of course always look beautiful.
I love all of these looks!
My style is classic, white shirts, cashmere sweaters, loafers, tartan jackets and lots of scarves and wraps.
I am off to check out your beautiful links. I do not need anything but one never knows what I might find.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

Every time I click on Northern California Style’s website, I get a “Not Secure” notice when the website comes up. I don’t get this notice for any other website, and being very timid online, I immediately close the website. I’m not sure what is going on, but I have to wonder if I am the only one that this happens to. I use Microsoft Edge.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Linda

I use chrome and never get the not secure warning. Maybe try safari or chrome. Kim’s website has been around for a long time and I assure you she doesn’t have any malware on it. Her whole family is in the tech industry!

    Hi Cindy,
Lovely post thank you. That Quince jacket is tempting me and l love those Artemis mules ….one day !! I googled flights to London last night as l love going in November and walking in my favorite parks with family, feeling the cold and walking through the leaves , crisp morning air. Love this time of year !!

Cindy excellent post. So many pretty things you have to style your looks. I need more cool necklaces like you. My favorite look may be the wraps you do on top like the taupe one! Very chic. That Rag & Bone jacket is great. I just bought a similar one from them and still have the tag on it.. Deciding whether to keep or not. .. I think these jackets are worth the investment for the years we wear them!
By the way, I bought the Madewell lug soul loafer last year and weirdly it looks identical to the Vionic. It’s super comfy. I agree we all need a few cool white shirts too.
I so love doing this with you – always you inspire me to dress better and cooler! Love all you do. xo

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Kim

I love those madewell loafers. They look just like the vionic. I however have to get a wide because of the bunion so it’s Vionic for me! I know what you mean about leaving the tags on. I love that rag and bone jacket. There is just something about it! What size did you get by the way. I bet you got the Slade. I love that one as well. You keep me on my toes are you kidding!!??

  12. Nanci says

Your Quince sweater links do not go to the correct item except for the batwing. So maybe you can fix those. I am not a fan of lug soles with size 10 feet but do love buying via Quince.

  13. Beth says

I am shopping my closet for the majority of my wardrobe this year. I have so many lovely pieces that need to be worn. That being said, I did purchase a pair of black leather riding boots. A black Lady Jacket, a denim dress and the a houndstooth skirt. I want a grey Heather cashmere sweater to go with my grey cropped leg pants. I am also on the look out for red items

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Beth

I highly recommend the Quince sweaters. I just received mine yesterday. I will be sharing a gray one tomorrow! Riding boots are always classic. Mine got tossed somehow in the first move. I had them for years! You can’t go wrong with denim dress either. I will keep my eye open for some good red pieces. I love red too!!

  14. Penny says

Love your color choices, fibrant and classy. I too like Quince for their merino wool and organic cotton. Talbots can have great sales on their cashmere as well. I look forward to your newsletter each week, and your fav fives!!

    Cindy-
Love, love your style!! You are an inspiration!! At 68, I sometimes find it challenging to dress “my age”, but still feel classically fashionable. You have given me many ideas over the years. Thank you and happy fall!!

    HI Cindy,
I love the flats (tapestry inspired?) you are wearing in the photo showing scarfs and wraps.
Do you have a source for the flats?
    Thanks for your great posts!

Great post as always. But when I went to your link for the Quince V neck cashmere it was for a different one. ❤️

Hi Cindy, I have the Kensley lug sole loafer from Vionic in wide and they are so comfortable. I love your recommendations! Last year you mentioned the Gentle Souls booties and Artemis mules which I purchased and wore all winter. So comfortable and stylish just like you said they were—thanks!
