Skirts you can Wear Now or Later

Today I am joining Sarah from Sarah London Style, and Kim from Northern California Stye for our Signature Style Series.

This is a post near and dear to my heart.  I love skirts. Are you team dress or team skirt? Do you find it harder to create a variety of looks with a dress?  I think I prefer the mix-and-match versatility of skirts. They can be worn with different pieces and allow one to be more creative with accessories. I also find they fit my more casual lifestyle. Why choose a skirt?  Let’s be honest they are comfortable.  Especially the easy, breezy fuller versions.  For summer cool cotton and linen versions are are great to beat the heat.  I love the pretty block print prairie dresses that are all the rage, but frankly, they just don’t look good on me.  I am long-waisted, and most dresses do not fit well.  The shirtwaist versions end up under my boobs, and the high-waisted numbers pooch out and make me look like a tub.  I keep trying but I have not yet found a flattering version for my physique.  The simple answer for me is the midi or maxi skirt that hits at the natural waist with some flare. Let’s take a look at some Skirts you can Wear or Later.

SKIRTS YOU CAN WEAR NOW OR LATER

skirts you can wear now or later

Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while know that my favorite skirt is the Lily Skirt from CP Shades. This is not a sponsored post.  I have never even received product from them.  I own the lily skirt in several colors. You can purchase the Lily skirt from CP Shades here I have also found several of mine on Ebay.  The lily is pricey but worth every penny in my mind.  It is all about the number of wears per item.

Here I am wearing the lily skirt with sandals and a linen shirt for Summer.

The skirt can easily transition into fall by adding some calf hair mules. a turtleneck and a leather jacket.

Here in California, the linen can comfortably be worn in the Fall as well as the Summer. I wore the lily skirt to America’s Mart in Atlanta and was quite comfortable in the heat.

Another skirt that I own that can easily transition from summer to fall is the Free People Leopard Skirt that is no longer available but you can find on Ebay here.I have also linked a similar version at the bottom of the photos. Here I styled it with a new tee from Anthro, an old gap jean jacket, and olukai flip flops.

No one styles a skirt like you, Cindy! I feel like the Lily skirt is your signature. I tend to shy away from skirts because of the waist band, but I did quick scan of my skirts and found most have very relaxed waists. With a loosely or half tucked blouse and a pair of sandals it’s the perfect summer, go-anywhere outfit. I just came over from Kim’s page … you two have inspired me to wear a skirt today. xo

Cindy! I love every one of your looks and how you transition from summer to fall! It’s the only skirt I am taking to France for a month in September!

Cindy such a great post and I really am wanting one of those CP Shades skirts! I am 5’4 , short waisted and fuller on top, so wonder if I can fit in one? I definitely don’t have your trim waist. These skirts look amazing on you. I have some longer skirts on my post and I do love how versatile they are! You are always so good with the accessories too. This was a really great collaboration and I’m already having fun wearing a skirt every day this week!

Can’t wait to see your pretty yard Cindy. xo Kim

Cindy, You look so elegant chic in your skirt outfits!! I am a skirt earer. I ear nothing else!! Long skirts are my favorite and Ion some midi skirts. Buying dresses is a difficult affair because I am short-aisted. I just found my first dress in 20 years this summer!! It is sleeveless but a straight cut linen dress ith ruffles on the hem. I ear a summer seater on top because my arms are scarred due to a medical treatment I receive. I love using most of my summer skirts in inter but must admit I like earing my corduroy, blue jean, black ruppled fabric, navy ruppled fabric and leopard skirts in inter the best. I’ve been on the lookout for a midi length leather skirt for a hile no. I love your mules but I have neuropathy so I’m unable to ear any slide on shoes.

I love the look of the linen shirts tied at the waist. Do you need to size up when you are planning on doing this style?

  7. De says

Cindy love the linen skirts in all the gorgeous colours. Wish it was available in Aus. I used to wear skirts all the time but as I aged I noticed that most women wear pants. So I gave away my skirts. Now you have reignited my love of skirts. Look out summer here I come.
    Thank you.

I am team skirt and in general I love separates. As a full breasted woman, most dresses make me look like a TENT . Skirts allow me to balance my proportions and define my waist at where my real waist is. You look absolutely gorgeous on your Lilly skirts, they suit you like a glove. Have you tried shirt dresses ? I recently purchased one that I wear open over Jeans and tee’s or as a dress with a belt .

I love everything you post. I’m tall 5 ft. 7 inches and I dress in skirts and blouses tied at the waist a lot. Keep up the beautiful work.

Skirts were made for you! Dresses were made for me 😂 you look just so darn comfortable and chic in them! No bunching around the waist! I adore the collection you’ve shown us so far, and ones in previous posts. You rock them!

  11. Nancy O. says

I’m team dress. Really, it’s team linen maxi shift, preferably sleeveless and solid color. I can then put a tee shirt under it or a button down linen or cotton blouse over it. I have several colors of shifts and tees and blouses so there’s a never ending combination. Add sandals, some jewelry or a scarf and I’m done. Nothing fancy, but very comfortable in heat and humidity. I love your style and get so many ideas from you. Thank you for the inspiration.

  12. Wren says

All of the looks are great! You look good in a skirt and coordinate the outfits with style. I was sidetracked by trying to see your yard . Some of the pots look like they’ve been there longer than a couple of months.
After my mention before about ordering the bone necklace from Etsy, wanted to follow-up in case someone else can learn from my misunderstanding. I ordered from MosaKshop in Vietnam Nam. The service was fine and it’s not too big a piece but I didn’t understand that the colors I chose came unpolished. It’s just the raw bone which actually feels kind of creepy to have around my neck and it’s rough so I think it might snag a delicate sweater. The cost wasn’t much so if I never wear, it’s no great loss. Read the fine print if you order the colors of #3!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

I noticed that Wren! I am glad you noted it. I usually like the unpolished as well so I am glad you pointed that out! FYI the pots are all new as well as the plants!! I will show more when it is finished. It is getting there!!

  13. Sue Winter says

Just beautiful Cindy. Do you mind if I ask about the sizing for the CP Shades? Do items run true to size? Particularly the Lily skirt? Thank you!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Sue

I wear a small in the CP Shades Lily Skirt. Most of their shirts and tunics I wear an XS. I think the shirts run a little big. Hope that helps. The lily has an elastic waist so it is forgiving!

  14. Gray says

I love dresses, because they are an easy pack and quick outfit. But I also like skirts and like to put looks together! All must be longer, however, as I have pretty bad legs. I am short waisted and am getting more short waisted by the day, so I have to watch what style I pick. I love the animal print skirt to which you linked – thanks!! I think I can wear that one.
Did you just go to Atlanta Gift Market? Jealous!!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

I totally understand about the dresses. I just wish they worked for me! I love the simplicity as well. The only dresses I own are T-shirt dresses. I keep trying to find one that is flattering on me!!

  15. dianne says

adorable!!! Love the CP Shades skirts and the mules.
I have basically shitty feet: bunions etc. and you mentioned that you, too, have bunions. I love the Artemis mules and I am wondering if you can actually walk in them or are they just simply adorable. Another question, the skirt is a maxi length on you? Are you tall? I am wanting to order but i do better in midi lengths than maxi
Thanks for the help. These outfits are some of my faves!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

I absolutely wear the Artemis Mules. They do not slip around on my feet at all. I like that they have a wider toe box. I find them to be super comfortable. I have two pairs. I have not tried the loafers as I am afraid they would not accomodate my bunion!

  16. Sally says

Great skirt and you look fabulous in it! Not an ok skirt for my weird figure unfortunately. Thanks for posting!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Sally

If only we all could wear everything and look fabulous, right? Darn!
