Over 50 Fashion-J Crew Eyelet Shirt

Jennifer from A Well Styled Life contacted me about a fashion collaboration and I thought why not?  We thought we should attempt a monthly fashion post on something we would not normally wear. For those of you new here, I let my hair go gray about eight years ago. Prior to going gray I rarely if at all wore white. As I said in my last fashion post, I don’t think I am going to be going anywhere this summer other than our lake house. Even though we are all dying to wear something nice, to pretend I am going out on the town would be facetious.  I am styling the J Crew Embroidered Eyelet shirt just as I would wear it, with minimal jewelry, casually at the lake, or maybe dinner at our son’s home.  Those are the only places we are going at the moment. Let’s take a look at Over 50 Fashion-J Crew Eyelet Shirt.

Here I am styling it with an old Eddie Bauer hat that I got at the outlet years ago (similar Target linked below) , a cp shades skirt (similar to the Lily you have seen me wear many times) n from several years back, kork- ease sandals and a macrame belt. All items are linked below the pic.  I have linked similar items for those that are no longer available. This shirt comes in navy and a pretty green as well.  I am wearing a size 6, which is what I normally wear in J Crew.

This look I could wear any day of the week.  I paired the J Crew Eyelet shirt with a pair of Anthro Pilcro jeans (no longer available but similar linked below), a cute Target hat, and wedge sneaks from Kohls.  I love the Chuck Taylor wedge sneaks (that darling Kelley was wearing) but they are not comfortable.  These are not shoes you could walk miles in but are comfortable enough for a day outing.

I kept trying to rack my brain for what I could actually wear now.  I am not working at my real job.  This could be worn at the lake for dinner.  The skirt is just a scarf from my collection that is long enough to wear as a pareo (you could wear it during the day over your suit). I am pairing it with my favorite Ho Opio flip flops from Olukai.  I am wearing simple hoops as heavy jewelry does not work at the lake.

Lastly, I am pairing the shirt with a pair of cropped wide legs (from Topshop) and the shoes (you should all own) from my friend Elizabeth the Vintage Contessa.  I think Elizabeth probably has these in every color.  She gave me these as a thank you gift for staying at my house.  How nice is that?  Little did I know they would become my favorite summer shoes next to my Olukai flip flops.  Thanks, Eliz! They are from Ilse Jacobsen, they are reasonable, you can get them wet, wash them…my kinda shoes!!

Love your style and beautiful hair. I’m following you on Pinterest and Instagram. Really appreciate your post on products to use.
I am 73 and stopped coloring my hair about 3 years ago. It took a while to get down to my grey streaked natural hair color. I’m not sure it will ever turn grey completely, sure glad I’m all natural now.

That’s a darling shirt – I think it’s the model who makes it (that’s you!). I hang around in a denim or khaki skirt and ribbed tanks and tees most of the summer, trying to beat the heat, and keep menswear style oxford cloth shirts to slip on over them if I need to run errands, etc. This eyelet shirt looks much cuter and much cooler, and I love all the ways you’ve styled it. I love eyelet, so it’s going in the cart!

White is a staple in my summer wardrobe. I have a cute eyelet dress that I bought from TJ Maxx years ago. It’s a bit on the short side and I wonder if I should still be wearing it but can’t bear to part with it.
I like how you’ve styled the shirt. Looks good all ways.

I have always loved Eyelet—the casual side of lace—and I have always worn a great deal of white even when my hair was chestnutish. Now that my hair is white, it’s like wearing head to toe camo…not quite, but I still love it. My favorite outfit with the long skirt. As a fellow bunion owner, I pay attention to what you say is comfortable. I’m going to check out the shoes.

      Hi Patricia
Please share your favorite shoes as well. I know you have fabulous taste. I know that I cannot wear uncomfortable shoes anymore, but it sure helps if they are good looking! Sometimes a hard combo to find. I really love the Olukai flip flops (flip flops with support) and the kork-ease are great too. They have some new styles I need to check out.

      Have a great day!

Very pretty blouse, Cindy, and I love how versatile it is! I also want to mention how much I love your hair style…I have long hair, too, and I don’t want to go by any “rules” that as we age we need to wear shorter hair!

    Jane😘

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Thank you Jane, I was afraid to let my hair get this length for fear it would make me look “granny”. Thank you to all of you for your vote of confidence. It means a lot!

    Hi Cindy,
Third times the charm. I love eyelet, it is so much cooler for summer than some blouses. I think it looks light and summery. The one you’re showing is lovely.

      Hi Karen

Thanks for always being so supportive. Your Instagram is one of my favorites. Have you been able to see your grandchildren? I sure hope so!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Linda
I never wore white until I had silver hair! I love gray but it is hard to find!

  7. carol says

You both styled the eyelet shirt so well that I ordered it and it was on sale! I think the last time I wore eyelet anything it was a summer wedding in the 70s!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Carol
You and Jennifer are on the same wavelength! I guess when you get to be our age, we have seen it all! Thanks for commenting!

So glad you you were able to get the glitch worked out. I love all the combos you created with the eyelet blouse! I especially enjoy your casual style with minimal jewelry. I have not liked wearing eyelet because I find it scratchy. But you look very comfortable in these combos. Thanks for sharing, Cindy. Btw, I have ordered a pair of those darling loafers!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Karen
I think you will like the loafers! I have to be realistic, as I said. I am not wearing a lot of jewelry right now. #1 because it is hot, and we aren’t going anywhere!!

  9. Anna J Tharel says

I love all the outfits you put together. I would like more information about the Ilse Jacobsen shoes. What color are you wearing, and do you find them to run small or large?

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Anna
They are linked right below the picture. They are gray. You can click on the link and it will show you all the colors. I have a bunion on one foot and can’t wear a lot of shoes comfortably. The shoes are amazingly comfortable. I wear an 8 and I find them to be true to size. Hope that helps!

Fun post. I love J. Crew clothing and it is nice to see how other people would wear the same shirt in so many different ways. I especially like the scarf as a skirt idea. It was really cute.

I THINK THE SHIRT IS A STUNNER ON YOU!
PLUS, THE SHOES ARE IN THE SAME pattern as the TOP…….CUT OUT so that coordinates BEAUTIFULLY TOGETHER!
THIS WOULD BE GOOD FOR THE GROCERY STORE TOO!!!
I LOVE THE LONG WHITE SKIRT WITH IT!

Good morning from Camano Island, Wa,
I adore eyelet and can remember when it became available in colors besides white. I have an vintage black eyelet jacket in my closet that is a go to this time of year. Your pairings inspire me to shake out the two white eyelet blouses (one sleeveless) in my summer drawer. You, as always look sensational in yours.
Hugs from one silver haired woman to another,
    Diney

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Hi Diney (my silver haired friend)

White eyelet does seem to go well with the silver hair!!
