We still aren’t going out much but did manage to get out to a local winery with our son and daughter in law for Father’s Day. They are such good cooks. Lauren prepared a fabulous picnic and we had a wonderful time. I was going to post a picture but I wore an all linen outfit and it was windy. I looked like I just got out of bed and forgot to comb my hair. Note to self up your fashion and hair game a bit. Let’s take a look at Over 50 Fashion and Picnic Menu.
Lauren made these roast beef baguettes with roast tomato currant chutney from the Gourmet Traveler. They were delicious!
She accompanied them with this Thai Herb Potato Chip Salad from the Lady and Pups. It was equally yummy!
Do you read Little Blue Deer? Shari does website design (she’s done mine twice) and I love this post hair undone I don’t care since many of us are just making it to our hairstylist for the first time in months. I like the idea of an interesting hair clip. How about you?. If you need your website redone, check out Little Blue Deer you won’t be disappointed!
Jennifer interviewed a super stylish cancer survivor here. Isn’t she darling? Love her style!
Refinery 29 has a really interesting article about how the pandemic has probably changed how we work forever.
I am on the hunt for a new swimsuit. Very few have enough support for women our age. We are spending much more time at the lake because we can’t go anywhere else! I love Athleta for their support and options. So many are sold out though! I ordered the Maldives Tankini. You can order by cup size. I have another high neck tankini that I ordered a couple of years ago and I love it. I am long waisted so a one-piece suit will ride up on me. I ordered the black top and orange bottoms just for fun.
If you can’t find your size on the Athleta website you may be able to find it on Ebay here
I also ordered this cute dress from Madewell which I am going to wear as a coverup. If you like it order now it is 40% off!
I also ordered this Seafolly coverup from Amazon. I have worn the one I purchased last year to death. It is reasonable and simple and comes in white and peach as well. It is also a good price point at $78.
Since we will be spending a lot of time at the lake (unless it sells) more on that next post, I need some casual things to wear after swimming or that can be worn for an occasional wine tasting.
I ordered both of these t-shirt dresses. I know many of you didn’t like the infamous target dress because it was sleeveless. You all purchased 400 of them from my post as of this date Thank you! I love that dress. This oatmeal colored one from Madewell (the color of my hair) is $39.70 on sale. I think it is worth a try at that price.
This black tee dress from J Crew is also reasonable at $59.50 and also comes in flamingo and periwinkle. Either dress would be great with some strappy sandals, or a jean jacket and tennies.
I am on the hunt for some stylish comfortable sandals. I hope to get a post up next week. Please share if you have found any that you love. I will be back on Friday with another seldom seen area of our property styled by my friend Roxanne. Thanks for reading Over 50 Fashion and a Picnic Menu.
Hi Cindy. Love all of your picks, and I totally agree about swimsuits from Athleta. They are my favorite, and I like the two piece with boy short bottoms and tank or sports bra type top. Most of my shift dresses are Madewell or J. Crew, and I still hunt eBay for a particular linen Gap dress with pockets (I have a collection now!) because it will never go out of style. I’m jealous of your lake life. We take the short drive to Lake Geneva on weekends, but to have a house there would be dreamy! xox
p.s. looks like you are signed in as “the blog fixer” rather than you in this comment section. 🙂
Agree about the sandwich. The link didn’t work so I went directly to the source. Oh my! Another rabbit hole to go down. I am still not going to the store. I am ordering online or through Instacart. Can you believe that here in Kansas, beef is getting hard to get—at least specific cuts! I’ve been ordering local beef—and California wine (a nice combo, actually). Corvid is about to blow up!!!! This thing is far, far from over.
The sandwich looks divine and perfect for the picnic I’m planning! I found Donnas instagram via Jennnifer and she is so stylish and inspiring! Love the J.Crew dress but in pink, thanks!
Hi Ginger
Isn’t Donna cute: I think you will love that sandwich it was beyond yummy! My daughter in law never fails !
Hi Cindy,
This was great, as usual. Now if only I could find a bathing suit that makes my body look like the model above. Haha. Your comment about your outfit and hair for Father’s Day cracked me up. 🙂 I’m certain you still looked as lovely as ever, wind swept hair and all.
xo,
Karen
I didn’t do the sleeveless dress (no one needs to see crepey arms), but I did get the wraps. The t-shirt dresses are also at Target. The problem is, if you have wide shoulders or you are busty, they just look like giant nighties – not a good look. The short ones would be better if they had pockets.
Hi Lissa
I agree the t-shirt dresses can be a challenge if they have no shape. I am hoping these two do. The reviews were good. My arms are crepey too darn it!
I COULD DEVOUR THOSE SANDWICHES THE GORGEOUS DAUGHTER IN LAW MADE!

400 DRESSES SOLD!!!!!!!!!!FANTASTIC!!!

Hi Birthday girl!
Yes the sandwiches were yummy! You can still wear the gorgeous looking sandals, but I am limited!
I just got the plastic white Birkenstock Arizona sandals. Very comfy and can be used as pool shoes too!
Try super comfy birkenstock sandals, can get them at the nordstrom rack!
When your blog hits my inbox, my thought is “Oh boy, “I enjoy each and every one. Thanks for sharing the cute fashions.
Hi Linda
You made my day! Thank you so much!!
Great post thank you! I am loving my Garnet Hill Kork Ease Menzie sandals…I bought the bronze and they are fab! Also I hear great things about the new Rothy’s sandals which is on my wish list.
Happy times to you and yours Cindy:)
I have those in two colors and also love them! They are comfy, cute and give you some height.
Hi Gray
Will check them out!!
Hi Francesca
I have two pairs of kork-ease and I LOVE them. I will check those out. Both of mine are discontinued now!! I must check out the Rothy’s as well. Thank you so much for the suggestions!
another fab post Cindy…..Lauren is quite the cook!
selling the lake house? that is a big decision, cannot wait to hear.
xx
debra
We have it listed but don’t expect it to sell quickly. We are looking at lake property in Indiana!!
Hi there
What a great time you are having! Oh to have a place at a lake – I’m envious.
Lunch looked so delicious – must try the recipes.
I’m fortunately not self conscious in a bathing suit – at 71 – body is showing its age – the main thing is I can swim.
Good for you Rosemarie! We have to still enjoy ourselves at whatever age don’t we? Why should we miss out on the fun?
I could not open the recipe for those amazing looking baguettes….
Hi Diane
It took some doing but I fixed it. There was a weird glitch! Thank you so much for telling me!!
Your daughter-in-law’s lunch menu has the little salivary glands in the back of my throat howling at the moon! Wow! I read recipes like I do books and both of these spoke to me!! My thanks to you and her for sharing.
I want some kaftans or teeshirt dresses with sleeves or partial sleeves and have been looking on and off for the last few days. The ones I want are obscenely expensive and the others look like they’re cheaply made. Will give a look at the ones you suggested. Great post, Cindy! xoxox, B
Brenda
So agree about the kaftan dilemna. It seems like they are either ridiculously priced or terribly inexpensive and cheap! I have since the post found some that seem like they might work. Try Ebay and Poshmark. You might be able to find the ones you love for less! I hope you are staying home, sounds like things are getting scary in Texas.
I’m intrigued by the potato chip salad. Directions say to serve immediately so was this done ahead for the picnic or tossed together on the spot? The flavors look amazing.
Hi Kathleen
She did bring the dressing and tossed it on the spot. It was delicious!
Hi Kathleen
I hope I am not replying twice. Lauren did dress the salad on the spot. It was absolutely delicious! I hope you enjoy it!
I have been wearing the Ugg Kamile sandal from Nordstrom’s, now on sale 40% off….it’s like walking in slippers….just ordered the Berryessa Esperilla from Ugg hope they are just as comfortable as the Kamile.
It’s a must buy…I’ve tried sofft, born, berkinstock, Naot, etc….nothing compares
Hi Debbie
I have fat clunky looking feet so I have stayed away from Birkenstocks. My daughter loves them. I like your suggestion. I wonder if they would accommodate bunions?
What a great post! Makes me hungry and fearful of being seen in a bathing suit…so the cover-ups work 🙂 Looking forward to seeing you.
Mary Ann
OMG swimsuit…yikes! Need to get back on the weight watchers wagon!
As for sandals, I would recommend Yellow Box brand… I live in Arizona and wear them year round… good price point and best selection on Amazon. They run true to size. And I love the way they fit and look! Did you know you look taller and your legs look longer and thinner if you have less coverage on your foot? Bev Marshall
