My Outdoor Rooms-The Pool Area

If you are new here Welcome! Mary Ann, Annie, and I are so happy to be joining our blogging friends for a post on Outdoor Living.  You are going to love what these ladies have to share.  They all have beautiful outdoor spaces so grab a cup of coffee and enjoy. Don’t be afraid to blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors and create spaces where you can eat, read a book, enjoy a glass of wine, or sit by the fire. Welcome to My Outdoor Rooms- The Pool Area.  I am sharing a seldom seen area of my home. I often share photos of the rose garden and the front garden but have pretty much neglected the pool area.

Our house is almost 30 years old but there wasn’t a tree or plant on our 10 acres when we bought it.  At one end of our pool is the outdoor fireplace that we added when my daughter graduated from college about 15? years ago?

Outdoor Living-The Pool & Barn

The fireplace is surrounded on both sides by a trellis which is planted in wisteria.  It is green right now. The angel is vintage from Center Street Antiques many years ago.

We use this area to enjoy appetizers or a glass of wine before dinner, or to enjoy a fire after a cool evening. I filled these pots (old but similar inked at bottom of post) with succulents, peonies and greens from my friend Roxanne and my gardens. The pillows are outdoor from Pottery Barn.

At the other end of the pool is my herb garden. The fence is constructed of boards from my bil’s property that are over 100 years old.  The four entrances are anchored by cecile breuner roses, and super dorothy.

The Cecil Breuner rose on the arbor is underplanted with lavender and catmint.

The chairs are no longer available from Restoration Hardware but I have linked some similar ones at the bottom of the post.

This is our dining area near the house on the other side of the pool.  The table and chairs were purchased in Mexico many years ago.  The Umbrella is new this year from Pottery Barn.  It is linked below with the pillows also from PB. This area is pleasant almost any time of the year.

This area is adjacent to the table and chairs a step-down.  This console was purchased in Mexico as well several years ago.  A similar one is linked at the bottom of the post. We remove the plants and use it to serve from when entertaining outdoors.

I would love to smell those roses and enjoy that landscape with you someday, Cindy. I have never traveled to your part of the state, and I bet I would never want to leave. Just a couple more years here in the Midwest, and then we’ll be heading to the sunshine! 🙂

Love every single thing! I know how much work a garden this size can be and all of the years of hard work really show. I bet the pool area is wonderful in the summertime. I would love to have an herb garden again and a fireplace is on the list too. And….well I love everything in your garden!
Hopefully, we can connect in person this year and share some laughs and stories. This year has been so challenging for everyone and it feels like we deserve a break.
Thank you Cindy for including me. You are always so thoughtful and I really do appreciate that. And what a talented group!
    Talk soon! xxoo kelley

Cindy, your garden in beyond amazing. Ho lucky you are to have so much beauty surrounding you, every turn of your head sees something wonderful. I can tell how much your garden is loved. What got me though, was th Cecile Breuner climbing rose. My grandmother had one that covered the whole side of her little guest house. As a young girl, one of my favorite thing to do when I went to visit, was to pick a bouquet of her Cecile Breuner petite roses and put them on the table when we would have our tea parties. Thank you for bringing back that very special memory for me.

Thank you for sharing… What a lovely escape for all of us! There are so many wonderful elements but I have to confess, I’m coveting the iron furniture from Mexico.
    Stay safe, Lovely Lady!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Brenda

I linked to a shop on Etsy that carries similar items. We used to make regular trips to Mexico to source items for clients and ourselves, but that is over for the time being. Thank you so much for your comment!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Lorna

I am certainly no succulent expert (and most of mind need a good trim). My daughter in law is the succulent queen I am taking lessons from her!!

  11. Karen B. says

I’ve always loved the grounds surrounding your home. You’ve created inviting “rooms” in each area. I love some of the pieces you bought from Mexico. This is the time of year when being outdoors is preferable to being in!

      Hi Karen
Thank you so much for your kind words. We certainly have enjoyed our yard this year. As you know (like you) we will be downsizing in the next 2-3 years so we are enjoying it while we can.

      Hi Annie

We do have a lot of memories involving the gardens of this home. We have had four weddings, numerous graduations and too many parties to mention! Hopefully you will come visit soon!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Thank you so much! I should have reflected on the story of the fireplace. My husband a contractor had a sub that owed him money-whala! Fireplace!!

  13. Juliet says

Gorgeous, Cindy! I’m glad you shared the pool area … its absolutely charming with the climbing roses as a backdrop. Your back yard is like a resort. I’m ready to check-in with a good book and forget about the real world. Beautiful! xo

Oh, Cindy. so beautiful and inviting. We have just added a large multi-site outdoor living area, and we are loving it. Wayfair has been my ‘best friend’ in getting furniture and lighting. I afraid it may be too ‘matchy’….sure could use your touch. 🙂

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Old friend!

I doubt it is too matchy matchy! I know how well you put yourself together! Hope to see you in Indiana sometime soon!
