One Kings Lane There’s More to Love

image
Many of you have found One Kings Lane to be a great resource for home decor enthusiasts to find wonderful home decor and vintage items that are often only available to designers.  Now in their effort to constantly improve their site they have  created a resource center https://www.onekingslane.com/info/time-period/home-decor-shopping-handbook/  to inspire and educate their buyers when purchasing items for their homes.
I was recently contacted by One Kings Lane to try it out.  I have a chair in my home that my kids still shudder at the memory of hauling it to the upholsterers.  It is a wing back chair that resided in a historical home that housed the office of the Junior League of Monterey County at the time. They were doing some redecorating and   no one wanted the chair.  Being the “chairaholic” that I am , I gladly stepped  up to the plate and took possession to my children’s chagrin.  They thought it was the ugliest chair they had ever seen (and according to them they had seen many). I have long been curious about the origin of this chair. I began my research here https://www.onekingslane.com/info/type/chairs/.  It was originally upholstered in a drab tapestry that to me was reminiscent of the twenties or thirties but I really had no idea. Ironically my extensive One Kings Lane Research led me to a site where I found a wing chair upholstered in the exact same tapestry that mine once was.  Now you know why my children were not impressed.

My husband and I once had an antique business and have collected American Antiques for almost forty years.  Our expertise (what little there is) is in seventeenth and early eighteenth century pieces.  I honestly do not know  much about  anything from the twenties on. Here is what the chair looks like today in my guest room.

Note the boxy style of the wing

and the stretcher base that is rather delicate (and dusty as you can see). apparently I need to pull that skirt up a little more often!!

I continued my research here https://www.onekingslane.com/info/time-period/1800-1900/ .  The stretcher base of the chair is oak (spanish revival?) so I continued on here https://www.onekingslane.com/info/home/spanish-mission-style-furniture/.  After exhausting the wealth of information I found on One Kings Lane I thought I should look for another source that might be more comprehensive.  I really didn’t find anything that compared to what they are offering.
I ended up getting bored with searching for my chair and became immersed in all the information that OKL has to offer. We have many windsor chairs in our home and I found a wealth of information regarding their heritage here https://www.onekingslane.com/info?s=windsor+chair. My advice is this, if you are looking for anything other than my crazy chair, you will love this new resource.  You will find information about the history and origins of all styles and periods of furniture. You can search by period, style or if you have an anomaly like me you will end up immersed in the entire site.
I kept bouncing back and forth from my book work to their pages.  Hmmmm… book work or research? To find the Home Design Resource on One King’s Lane, visit the Sitemap at the bottom of the home page and select History of Furniture.  Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy!!!
The moral of the chair’s story is I picked an anomaly (leave it to me) I think. Anyone have any ideas?
