OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

I know many of you aren’t fans, but I love a good, ripped, distressed patchwork jean. I love anything with a vintage vibe. That being said, I would not spend a pile of money on a pair. I won’t mention any of the high end jeans peeps that are selling them for $$$. We are from the generation of cut-off’s, right? They are now marketed now for big $$. If I am going to buy a pair of “destroyed” jeans, I am going to buy them from a low end retailer or do my own. I had a pair from H&M that I had for a couple of years until they were in shreds. Would you really pay big $$$ to have the same thing happen? And…why do they always rip them in the knees, so we can rip them more every time we slide them on? I am pairing a fun pair of patriotic jeans from Walmart with a great J Crew cashmere sweater, Artemis Design Co slippers and a bandana from Etsy. Don’t be afraid to mix the high and low, or do your own, better yet.

THE BEAUTIFUL WORK OF TOM SCHEERER

I am a long time admirer of Tom Scheerer. I own both of his books and refer to them regularly. His designs are interesting, and comfortable with a fresh nod to tradition. You can follow him on Instagram here.

He says he doesn’t do red, but when he does…

THE CUBA LIBRE STORY ON NETFLIX

I am not a great sleeper, so I often listen to documentaries in the middle of the night. I found the Cube Libre Story on Netflix interesting. I think you might as well if you are interested in the history of the Castro regime.

I hope you have a great Sunday. If you missed any of my Sunday favorites, you can find them here. Thank you for reading, What do Cuban History, Paint Colors, and Beautiful Design Have in Common? Now let’s pop over and visit Mary Ann and Annie for their favorite finds this week.

Cindy! Ripped jeans is so on brand for you! I could see you wearing a pair of R13 ripped jeans! Classic, but worn in…so your style! And i mean this in the best possible way! And leave it to you to find the coolest pair at Walmart!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Annie

I really don’t understand expensive ripped jeans. I think you either need to rip them yourself or buy inexpensive ones because they are bound to rip more!! Now RL patch jeans yes!!

  2. Rita says

Thanks for the post Cindy and the memory it brought up. Many years ago I arrived home from work and on the kitchen bench were my son’s jeans and my daughter ripping them at the knees. My daughter was in primary school, about 10 years old. I refused to buy my son ripped jeans because of the cost, so he took an old pair and my daughter got to work. I burst into laughter.

  3. Elle says

Hey, Cindy! Thank you for the wonderful posts every week. You said you were not a great sleeper. Me too. Do you have any tips for people like us? I take melatonin, magnesium, ‘nighttime sleep aid’ (antihistamines) and Doxepin. I switch up what I take every night. Thank you, Elle

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Sadly Elle, I have not tips. Luckily, I do not require a lot of sleep so I am rarely if ever tired. What started the waking up after four hours was menopause and hot flashes. I am afraid to say this because I do not think there is any science to back this up, but I started taking collagen a couple of years ago. If I go off it for vacation or whatever, the hot flashes return. I have tried magnesium in the past but couldn’t tell much difference. As I said, I am no help at all!

i love all the warm colors and ocean colors wed often see like corals, terra cottas and turquoise , aqua , etc. i love going to Key West and Santa Fe, me two favorite I-could-live-there spots. Tom Scheerer loves them too I think! Hemingway has a lot of stories about Cuba. So interesting!
And I bought a pair of ripped , light blue denim jeans at the Nordstrom sale. i plan on rocking them in my 72 yr old body! Thanks for the inspiration! Stay safe ! and send us some rain! it is hot and dry in Texas!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Marcia

I love ripped jeans! I know many don’t but I think they are fun, especially with a cashmere sweater!

  5. Mary Ann Pickett says

I love Tom Sheerer of course….and now Franco Lagnese. That living room rug could be a cool stair runner (I have that on the brain as you know) 🙂

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mary Ann

I know you love Tom’s work as well. Love your stair runner ideas!!

  6. NancyO. says

As a sewer the high$$ Jean DS were an inspiration to make my own as did several of my friends. All are special and spectacular! Using cutouts from vintage and new fabrics they are wonderful beyond. Thanks for sharing
