Good Morning! I hope you all are having a great weekend. We are enjoying our time at the lake. You know the drill if you are a regular here. Every Sunday Annie, Mary Ann and I share five things that caught our eye this week. Welcome to my Sunday Fab Five-Beth Webb and more
One Bray’s Island Beauty from Beth Webb
If you have read this blog for long you know that I am a huge fan of Beth Webb’s designs. This gorgeous home was recently featured in Veranda. You can read about this tiny house that is big on style in Veranda here. You can also see more of it in Beth’s portfolio here
Two-The Fascinating Life of Ruth Bader Ginsberg
Regardless of your political leanings, I think you will enjoy this article on the fascinating life of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg
This wonderful folk portrait is by Joan Baez. It is available for purchase here
Three-Anthro Day
IIt’s Anthro Day 20% off all clothing, accessories, and shoes
This is a good time to pick up anything you have your eye on for fall. I am not normally a big Camo fan but this sweater caught my eye. My office is on the Northside of the house and gets a little chilly once fall hits.
I bought a similar turtleneck from Anthro last year and love it. This beauty comes in five colors including black
Four-Timeless Kitchen Remodel from Carla Aston
When I spotted this kitchen remodel on Carla’s blog here. I knew I wanted to share it with you. For those of you who don’t follow Carla, she is a designer in Woodlands, Texas. She shares her projects and design tips on her blog. You might want to grab a cup of coffee and check out her blog.
Five-Spinach Salad with Feta, Apples and Walnuts from Kitchn
One of my favorite fall salads is a variation of this with romaine and bleu cheese. I like the healthier option of Spinach and Feta from the Kitchn. We have tons of apples from our trees right now, so I am always looking for salads that can include apples. Do you have any to share? You can find the Spinach, Feta, Apple and Walnut recipe here
This week you are getting six for the price of five since I added the article on Ruth Ginsberg. I have been meaning to devote an entire post to fashion designer Linda Allard’s beautiful gardens designed by her brother. Her garden was featured in its infancy in one of my garden books. I really enjoyed seeing it in maturity. Her kitchen garden is one of the prettiest I have ever seen. Her entire garden (it is massive) is featured in Cottages and Gardens here. Pre-covid the Garden Conservancy had open days where you could view the garden here
I hope You enjoyed my Sunday Fab Five-Beth Webb and more. Have a great Sunday! Grab a cup of coffee and pop over and visit Annie and Mary Ann for their five favorites.

RBG … what a woman, what a loss. Thanks for linking Nina’s article. I’ve been hearing many references to it but hadn’t time to read it … and now it’s time! Gorgeous garden, sweaters and salad … this post packed quite a punch! xo

Wow, that mural in the dining room! Reminds me of the English countryside. I am in love with the kitchen by Carla Aston and saved it to my pinterest. I also have dated oak cabinets but they are a little darker and not shiny, thank goodness. I am not into the white cabinet phase right now, so these updated oak ones were right up my alley. Thanks for sharing.

Cindy.
You had me at Beth Webb’s home. That photo! Omg. What a great post, enjoyed each one of your recommendations. I’m still so sad about RBG, such a heroic woman. I need to check out Carla’s kitchen and that gorgeous garden. BTW–your blog photos look great, I love the size of them. I need to leave Blogger, nothing but issues now. 🙁
xo

Hello, Cindy! Now I know where I’ll be hanging on Sundays. Can’t wait to check out the kitchen renos and the article on RBG. Have a wonderful week!
Nan says
Truly sad over RBG’s death! What she accomplished in legal precedence for women is the shocking reality it happened so recently in our US history. Beth Webb’s Bray’s Island project makes me smile. Thank you for all your Sunday spirit-brightening lists!
Lorna says
I think I have to make that salad. Thanks for sharing.
Linda Henderson says
Thank you for the wonderful article on Justice Ginsburg. I am so grateful to her. The spinach salad sounds delicious so I printed the instructions. Thank you again.
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Linda
I found the article fascinating. I think you will love the Spinach Salad.
Didi says
Wonderful garden. And, not only is the portrait fantastic, I had no idea Joan Baez was a painter. Very cool.
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Didi
You know it is really funny I have a passion for folk portraits and when I saw that it just appealed to me. I looked it up and what a surprise.
Karen B. says
Cindy,
I always love your Sunday posts. It is sad that RBG has passed. Such a great woman and wonderful role model. I love strong women who fight on when most would have given up.
That salad looks delicious.
I can’t wait to see more of this garden. Autumn is a favorite time to garden (cooler weather here in SoCal).
I hope you’re enjoying the lake.
xo,
Karen

You might have the garden book with her garden in it’s infancy. I had no idea it had become so expansive. Wouldn’t we love to tour that one!!

I have really enjoyed your posts, until today. I liked the posts because there was nothing political. I was not a fan of RBG. Not everyone was.
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Susie
To me there is nothing political about learning more about someone that has influenced our history whether we personally agree with their philosophies or not. It was not my intention to make any sort of political statement.
Karen Austin says
All women, regardless of political affiliation, owe Ruth Bader Ginsberg a debt of gratitude for advancing the cause of rights for women. She and Marti had a wonderful marriage – quite a positive role model. She set an example for us all that people of opposing views can be civil – even friends. Thank you, Cindy, for posting the portrait and the article.

I agree with Mary Ann about the passing of our rock star. Her life story is a vote for women’s rights, courage of conviction, brilliance of mind…and showed us all to fight adversity, you fight back and while donning great statement collars and gloves. Her death saddens me greatly. As for the duster, I think it is cool. I think if you squint your eyes, the camo becomes a modern abtract animal print! Does that help?
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Patricia
I found the NPR article about Ruth Bader Ginsberg fascinating. We forget that it wasn’t all that long ago that things were very different. And you are right about the duster! That is exactly what I was thinking!! Think something other that camo!!
Janet Arden says
Can’t get enough of Beth Webb’s design for Brays Island. Awesome! Linda Allard’s gardenia one green dreams are made of. Ruth Bader Ginsburg is such a huge loss, words fail me.
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Janet
I am a huge Beth Webb fan. I have never seen anything she has touched that isn’t wonderful .
Melinda says
A spinach salad is the only salad I will eat. I think I’ll put this one on the menu soon.
Enjoy your day.
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Melinda
I love the unexpected addition of Spinach. It is a food one!
Francesca B. says
Lovely salad Cindy I am going to make that! And gorgeous design blogs to look at thank you for that. Happy week 🙂
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Francesca
Thank you for your sweet comment. I think you will love the salad. I sure do!
Mary Ann Pickett says
Ruth Bader Ginsberg was a rockstar for women! The US flags are at halfmast around the city.
Love Carla’s kitchen and thanks for the Anthro day heads up!

Isn’t Carla’s kitchen pretty? So classic!!
