Outfits that Transition from Day to Night and More

When it comes to style, the beauty is in the versatility. The holidays are coming and we want outfits that transition seamlessly from day to night. Today, I’m sharing a couple outfits of the week that are stylish, timeless, and comfortable enough to keep up with your day and night. With a few simple tweaks, these outfits will effortlessly take you from a busy afternoon to an elegant evening – and maybe even beyond! Let’s join my pals Annie and Mary Ann for our Sunday faves. Let’s chat about Outfits that Transition from Day to Night and More.

Outfits of the Week

With the holidays coming up it’s time to start thinking about what you can wear to all the festivities. I have selected some J Crew separates from their sale that you can mix and match for evening daytime looks.

J Crew Daytime Outfit

For a great daytime look,I have this sweater from J Crew on order. I love the loose weave of it. It is cropped so I paired it with a white shirt that could be worn out if it is too short. I purchased the gentle souls loafers, and they are super comfortable. I paired the outfit with that great Amy Kesterberg bag, and shades from Caddis. You probably have options in your own closet you can sub out for this look. You could add a favorite leather jacket for warmth, one of your favorite belts, necklaces, my favorite silver sneakers , or my favorite silver crossbody.

J Crew Evening Outfit

Shop Silver Outfits of the Week

I love these flattering pleated midi skirts from J Crew. They are super flattering. For an evening vibe add simple silver mary janes, a tee, rhinestone earrings, one of Antho’s pretty silver clutches, and you are good to go! You could add one of your favorite blazers, heels if you wear them, or s dressy sandals if it isn’t too cold. This sweater would be great paired with a pair of high waist jeans and your favorite accessories for another look. Think CPW.

J Crew Day Outfit with boots & skirt

This embellished shirt could be worn to lunch or work with ankle boots, tortoise hoops and a leopard bag or tote. You could add a silk blouse from your closet for another look.

J Crew evening out outfit

For a nightime outing with the girls, pair the top with faux leather pants, the same leopard bag (from Amazon), or one of your favorite clutch bags, rhinestone earrings and ballet flats. You could add your own pretty statement jewelry, and throw on a denim jacket for another look. Switch the pants our for a pair of jeans and dressy flats or high heels (if you wear them), and throw on a cardigan for a casual holiday gathering as well.

Whipped Feta Dip

What to take to the girls night, simple whipped feta.

whipped feta dip

This dip is a simple fresh appetizer that everyone loves. I often have the ingredients on hand, so I can prepare it on the fly. I normally serve it with pita chips but I didn’t have any. I keep a small baguette in the freezer for emergencies.

Summer Love

Summer fall 2024

I took a couple days off this week to go visit my granddaughter. She is 6 now and it is such a fun age! Summer created quite a stir on Instagram with her Mannequin design here. If you aren’t following me on Instagram, please do. We are starting a new series called Mannequin Monday. Summer created the first installment, and will step in when she is here for Thanksgiving. FYI here is the link to Summer’s sweatshirt from Zara.

Check out my Amazon Store

If you are looking for ornaments or Christmas decor, I have added a Christmas Decor section to my Amazon store. I had no idea there were so many great holiday finds on Amazon. . You can check out my entire Amazon Store here, where I feature home decor, makeup, and even a few clothing & shoe finds.

Sales of Note

J Crew has a great sale going 30% off for women men and children and an extra 20% for cardholders. This is a good one, and a great opportunity to pick up a few gifts.

Saks Off Fifth 25% off Seasonal Favorites

Nordstrom’s Fall Sale up to 50% off

It isn’t necessary to run out and purchase holiday specific attire that you will only wear once or twice a year. Think about CPW (cost per wear). There are no holiday dress codes. Think about layering in what you already own with few versatile pieces. With some simple swaps and a touch of creativity, you can seamlessly take your look from daytime to nighttime. Amp up your makeup, and maybe do your hair in loose waves. Own your own style. it’s all about choosing pieces that make you feel confident and comfortable.

That’s it from my desk this week. As always thank you for being here and reading Outfits that Transition from Day to Night and More. If you missed last week’s Sunday favorites you can find it here. Let’s pop over and visit Mary Ann and Annie for their favorites.

  1. Hi Cindy,
I look forward to seeing some of your design work from years past.
I enjoy everything you have to share.
Summer is so so so adorable. She must keep you on your toes, and looks like a barrel of fun to be around. I can see her modeling for come top magazines. Summer poses so naturally, beautiful on the outside, I’m sure the inside is the same. You are all blessed to have one another.

  2. Cindy, I’m swooning over that cropped sweater. So versatile for the holidays and it’s on sale! You make the most beautiful platters and I’m going to make that delish dip. Summer’s mannequin was so good … I hope she’ll be a frequent contributor to mannequin Monday’s. xo

  3. J crew owes you! I just ordered the skirt you show. I have a silver slip skirt from Quince but it was snug when I got it and being delusional, thought maybe I could wear it some day. Then I took it on a cruise with me – ha! not the right strategy! Although Summer is the same age as my grandson, I will never have a little girl grandchild so am living vicariously through you. I hope to meet her someday.

  4. LOl I have a curly haired three yr old grand girlie who hates having her locks brushed! She’s the adored only grand daughter and like your sweet Summer, the apple of our eyes!!
Hmm once a month newsletter ideas.. as someone mentioned many of us are downsizing but it doesn’t mean we aren’t interested in having beautiful and functional spaces. Maybe a look at decorating smaller spaces? Dual function ideas ie guest room / gym space. After living in a big home for many years dressing the downsized house or condo can be daunting. Also cooking for one or two? I love the recipes you show so maybe that is an idea.
I find myself gravitating less and less to blogs based on fashion, spending, acquiring STUFF and more to blogs about aging well, it’s inescapable…and would very much appreciate articles on that subject. The incomparable Lyn Slater in her current season of no longer carrying the weight of being an icon is my muse…
    Have a great week!

  5. On gosh that outfit with the J Crew grey sweater is sheer perfection! I would wear that sweater a lot!!!
Want to make that feta dip…a newsletter is a fabulous idea. Not sure what content you will include but knowing how great your blog is I am sure it will be great!
    Stay cozy,

  6. Cindy I really loved this post. Excited to try the dip. And I love love love the silver outfits. Yes I also want to know the gray sweater is? I had my 55th high school reunion last night and wore a silver gray origami dress I purchased in Carmel two years ago. With red patent leather slings. I’m telling you my outfit was the big hit.
So your new newsletter might want to tackle the subject of traveling with a dog. It’s a lot like taking a toddler. But fun. Also a soup recipe of the month. And possibly how to reconnect with friends as you age. How to support them through various health situations. I love the decorating posts you do but frankly most of us are downsizing or moving somewhere that is best for our sunset years. We don’t need more stuff!! And maybe a favorite vacation destination. Big topic among my friends.

  7. Cindy, somehow I can not find the link for the cropped gray J.Crew sweater & could not find it on their site. If there is a link because I missed it on their site could you please send it? Thank you!

  8. Hi Cindy,
Thank you for the lovely post! I have just got back from London seeing family and I did not see a great deal of women wearing silver and it’s such a classy color especially now coming up to the holidays! I love this outfit you put together the top reminds me of Eileen Fisher. I do have a beautiful Smokey grey color eyeshadow from Jones Road which is beautiful on and a sparkly one called So Pretty which I dab over the top and I am loving those.
Summer’s mannequin was so excellent she has such an eye! Take care happy week!

  9. Summer is absolutely adorable — you’re so lucky to be a grandmother, and a doting one, I can tell! Thanks for the feta dip recipe, which looks delicious. And beautiful silver items — my favorite.

  10. I love the idea of a monthly newsletter. While I look forward to you fashion and food ideas, I wish you would include more on design and decorating. For instance if you are designing a guest/grandchild guest room how does one start the process? Start first with a color scheme? Placement of furniture ? Concept? Would love help identifying a process.

    1. Hi Kathy

You know it is interesting since I started doing fashion my fashion peeps have taken over. No one wants to hear about design! I am so glad that you do. I no longer do design for a living so I cannot use my real projects anymore. You have given me an idea though. I need to do a roundup of projects that I have done on the blog. I should also update the post I did on Summer’s nursery. Thank you so much for your input!

I want to hang out with Summer, too!

    1. Hi Mary Ann

Summer is so fun to be with!! Just wait until little Louisa is this age!

  13. Besides the great outfits, Summer has grown up! She looks like she could stand in for you when you might need an extra hand modeling fashionable outfits. 😉💙
    Have a wonderful week

    1. Hi Karen
