What do you Love Most, Old Friends, Movies or Moving?

Happy Easter. I hope you will be enoying some special time with your families. We are in moving mode, and we are off to Hawaii for a wedding next week, so it is a little crazy around here. Let’s talk about What do you love most, old friends, movies, or moving. I know tough question, right?

DESIGNER MOLLY SINGER

Molly Singer work is new to me. I found her when searching for banquette inspiration. That’s what I love about research, it always leads me to a talented person I may have missed. It looks like Molly specializes in kitchens and baths. I can see why. You can find her entire portfolio here, and follow Molly Singer on Instagram here.

PILLOW DESIGN OF THE WEEK

I thought you all might be on outfit overload this week so I am sharing my pillow choices for the banquette in our new kitchen. The beams in the house are sort of a cinnamon color. The leather barstools from Pottery Barn will be the same color, so I thought the banquette pillows should reflect the colors of the beams and the pool beyond. You can see the post I did on the simple changes we plan in the kitchen here.

Have you seen this one? I thought it was really fun with a lot of plot twists and a surprise ending. Let me know what you think if you have already seen it.

COLGATE ADVANCED WHITENING TOOTHPASTE

I know toothpaste? Really how can we get excited about toothpaste, aren’t they all just the same? I I was a Crest girl growing up (wait almost forever), then I decided to go natural. I used Toms for several years and loved it, and then Simpli White. Randomly I researched the best whitening toothpaste and started using Colgate Optic White Renewal Toothpaste. I told Steve to try it. I thought maybe it was just me. We are both obsessed. I don’t want to know the ingredients. I will just tell you it is the best whitening toothpaste we have ever used. Have you tried it?

ARE OLD FRIENDS THE BEST FRIENDS?

Laura, Steve, Mark, and I all knew each other in high school. Laura and Mark went off to other colleges, and Steve and I went to Purdue. Mark transferred to Purdue his Sophomore year. He and Steve became roommates. We loved Mark. Mark and Laura got married and moved back to our old hometown. We had moved on to California. We would see them for reunions and always had fun together. They just visited for a few days and we had the best time. I can’t remember where this line came from but “Old friends are the best friends because they can see where you are and they know where you have been.” How do you feel about that?

Well, that’s my Sunday fab five this week. Thanks for reading What do you Love Most, Old Friends, Movies or Moving? We took all of our patio (new and old) to the new house on Saturday, and we are heading back on Sunday with another load. Follow me on Instagram for updates. Now let’s pop over and visit Mary Ann and Annie for their Sunday faves.

Appreciate the toothpaste (these things are important)and movie recommendations. Love your pillow choices and can’t wait to see your banquette come together. Old friends truly are the best friends … whenever you get together its like you’ve never been apart. We’re off to a wedding this week too. In Chicago. Sounds like you got the better deal. Mahalo. xo

      Hi Juliet

Chicago is such a great city! Eat at one of Rick Bayless restaurants if you get a chance or The Girl and the Goat! Take the architectural boat tour as well!

Re friends: “It takes a long time to grow old friends “ is a favorite saying. People friends, movie friends, garden friends…all those people and things that we enjoy.

I don’t enjoy moving, but it is cathartic. And it does make you change your thinking, so that’s probably a good thing. It prevents stagnation.

This made me remember the song that we sang as Brownies, “Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold.” So, when you move, you will be taking your “gold” treasures to your new “silver” home. Exciting!

  3. Barb says

I second the Colgate recommendation; it really does do a great job! I’ve added the movie to my watch list. Can’t wait to see the changes to the new house!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Barb

Isn’t it crazy how good it is? I don’t know why I never tried it!

Old friends for me are a treasure. I have a group of friends that we met when raising our boys. We are all still close and our kids still stay in touch. You’re right, they know us and are always there when we need them.
I love Chris Pine but really didn’t care for Old Knives Out. I have a friend that read the book and saw the movie and she said the book was so much better. Oh well, there’s no shortage of programs to watch.
    I must try the toothpaste.
    Have a good move.
    xo,
    Karen B.

      Hi Karen

I think the books are almost always better, don’t you? I love that you are still close to your old friends…so fun…

    Hi Cindy,
I hate moving though we seem to be serial movers! Just almost completed one that literally has taken almost a year with renovations and temporary rentals. Love the pillows and can’t wait to see what you do with the new home.
My husband went to the Air Force Academy and we still are closely bonded with them and just attended a reunion in Asheville NC. Many of them still have a prayer meeting every Friday morning (and talk about a lot of other things as well) via Zoom. Old friends are still made of gold really!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Sharon

It is funny with old friends you can pick up where you left off even after several years. You guys are the serial movers!! You have to come to Paso when we get situated.

  6. Elizabeth says

Cindy, old friends, pillows and toothpaste! All great! I hope that you had a wonderful Easter.I will have to try this toothpaste. And I cannot wait to see the banquette, we have room for one in our remodel but are on the fence. As for the old friends, my husband and I get together yearly with friends that he has had since they were in grade school It is always fun to hear the old stories.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Elizabeth
Two of my old friends I have known since kindergarten and we still keep in touch even though we are on opposite sides of the country. Toothpaste seems so boring but this one works!

  7. Sarah says

Those pillows are beautiful! Please though, don’t EVER think we’re on outfit overload; you put together such great ones!

All the Old Knives was a terrific surprise. Chris Pine and Thandy Newton have quite the chemistry together, and the plot twists were unexpected.

Thanks for the tip on the whitening toothpaste! Just in time for my upcoming 50 year reunion, lol. (Isn’t yours coming up as well? And wouldn’t that be a good topic for a what-to-wear post?) 😉

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Sarah

Great idea for a post! Mine is not until next year but I am right behind you!! That toothpaste is amazing even my husband noticed!

  8. Annie Diamond says

Cindy! Loving the new warm browns mixed with blues for your new banquette. It’s going to be gorgeous!

You are such a great researcher, that of course I just ordered 4 boxes of Colgate toothpaste!

Mary Ann’s pocket dial comment is making me laugh!

    xx

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Annie

You will not be disappointed in the toothpaste even Steve noticed!!

I watched Knives Out (not All the Old Knives) yesterday! I think that’s the one you’re referencing?? Great cast and some unexpected twists and turns. New toothpaste sounds good too! Beautiful pillows as well. Happy Easter!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Sylvie

I am glad you like the pillows. Dang, they are expensive these days! I thought All the Old Knives was fun…love a good mystery

  11. Margot says

We have a group of friends from college that we don’t see often (yearly or less) but every time we do see them everyone falls into that easy rhythm like we just saw them yesterday.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Margot

You said it well…the old rhythm. That is what is so wonderful isn’t it??

  12. Mary Ann Pickett says

Mark sounds like a great storyteller (as I could tell from your pocket dial message 🙂

Love your pillow combo ideas and thanks for the Netflix suggestion!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Mark is a total character! I don’t know if you heard the peeing in the armoire story?!!

      • Lisa says

Ok, Cindy, I’m dying about your Mark and Laura story. Do I know them or are they from Monticello?
BTW, Lisa T says lovely things about you and all your talent.

        • Cindy Hattersley says

          Hi Lisa

Yes, Mark and Laura are from Monticello. Mark was one year ahead of me and Laura was in my class.
