How to Make Wardrobe Staples Party Ready Over 50

With the Uncertainty of the Omicron Variant now looming over us, some of us may be having more casual, smaller gatherings again this year. Let’s think about how we can work with what we have in our closets. Try and visualize them in a new light. Sometimes just small tweaks can take a simple outfit from blah to wow. If you have been reading long you know to me it is all about the accessories. Let’s talk about how to make wardrobe staples party-ready over 50.

CREATE DRAMA WITH A COLUMN OF BLACK

This fun sweater coat from Anthro could be worn to work, shopping, out to lunch, or even thrown on over your yoga clothes. It is well made and versatile. To make it more party-ready, add interesting jewelry. Here I styled it with a favorite ribbed turtleneck from Banana, faux suede leggings, and Gentle Souls boots.

SHOP THE ANTHRO HOLIDAY LOOK

Here I accessorized the uber-comfy Anthro sweater dress with a Kashmiri scarf anchored with a rhinestone pin, vintage rhinestone bracelets, and rhinestone earrings. I am wearing the super comfy Emma boots from Gentle Souls.

That fabulous sweater dress again with another great Anthro item the shawl cardigan (also very heavy and well made). I added turquoise jewelry inherited and some that I have had for years.

ACCESORIZE WITH PARTY READY SHOES

You know how much I love Artemis. I was just gifted (they let me choose!) these Ikat Velvet Smoking Shoes, that I have had on my wish list. FYI they are snug out of the box but loosen up after wearing only once. If you have a bunion they are wide enough to be comfortable and accommodate it. The pants are the fabulous sweater pants from J Crew, turtleneck from Banana, as well as Sweater Coat (extremely high quality). I am wearing the beautiful Onyx Chandelier Earrings from Rocky Gorman and a French Kande necklace no longer available. All linked below pic.

GET THE ARTEMIS SHOE LOOK

Here I am wearing the comfy sweater dress from Anthro (it seriously feels like pj’s) I will style it differently next week in our boot post. I am wearing it with my Artemis loafers, a beautiful necklace from IBU (no longer available but a similar necklace here). The earrings are old (similar earrings from IBU here), as well as the bracelets (similar bracelets from IBU here)

ADD RED

This poncho can be found almost anywhere very inexpensively. There are several on Ebay here. I have linked one at the bottom of the post. I am wearing it with the same BR turtleneck, faux suede leggings, and Native American jewelry from my collection.

The sweater dress has me swooning and I truly love how forgiving black is. It also is the perfect backdrop for statement jewelry. I saw the beige cropped, wide leg pants on your Instagram feed, I so love them. I’m so short that it’s hard to find a length that works for me. But when I do—I feel so chic!

Thanks for all of your ideas and beautiful modeling!

So many pieces here I love. The sweater pant! The smoking shoe! I appreciate the idea of looking to what’s already in our closet and restyling in a new way. So many great ideas … and you look amazing, Cindy. As always. xo
