How to Create a Welcoming Thanksgiving Table that Celebrates the Bounty of the Season

Today I thought I would share my thanksgiving tablescapes in case any of you are in need of last minute ideas. We will have 19 guests in attendance, so it will be fun. We will have our immediate family, our wonderful neighbors, and our niece and family along with her in laws, and my daughter-in-law’s father, so it should be fun. We will be missing our nephew, his in-laws (whom we love) and their daughter and family because they just welcomed a new baby. Let’s chat about how to create a welcoming thanksgiving table that celebrates the bounty of the season and hopefully provides you with some last minute inspiration.

THANKSGIVING TABLE THAT CELEBRATES THE BOUNTY OF THE SEASON

I prefer to use natural elements in my Thanksgiving table decor when I can. Some years I create a floral centerpiece in a vintage wood box (from our friend Steve). I am not adverse to using the occasional faux element but I prefer natural .

The table in our dining area was crafted by Steve years ago so I prefer to keep it free of a table runner or tablecloth. The vintage wood bowl in the center of the table (from Patine several years ago) remains on the table throughout the seasons. This time of year it is filled with a mixture of cinderella pumpkins, gourds, mini pumpkins, leaves and moss. This year the color palette (pumpkins) is a little softer and I like it better since it is a part of our great room. The moss adds a little greenery to the thanksgiving table setting.

The carpet and pad had to be removed and replaced.

The “pewter look” chargers are from Pottery Barn from many years ago. My plates, “fancy glassware”, flatware, and linen napkins & napkin rings are all still available. I will link them at the bottom of the post.

I like the soft melange of colors from the mix of white pumpkins, orange, blush and green in the centerpiece. The mixture of votives with copper accents and silver compliment the centerpiece.

It looks like the weather may cooperate again this year and we can set up our outside tables but to be cautious we set up a round table adjacent to this table.

This is an ugly round plastic table so I layered it with a couple throws and a tablecloth from Etsy that you can see styled differently back in 2020 in this post How to Create a Collected Fall Tablescape here. The thanksgiving centerpiece was created with a few pumpkins I had outside for traditional fall colors. Fall leaves from my yard provide pops of color, and add to the harvest bounty.

The place setting features dinnerware and glasses from Fete Home. The grapevine chargers provide texture and continue the harvest theme (we just harvested our olives for olive oil). The grape leaves provide simple accents to the pumpkins. No need to add any fresh florals. I used a mixture of vintage silver napkin rings and rattan for interest.

This is our banquette which is the coziest spot for Thanksgiving dinner. The placemats are seagrass and very old from Pier 1. I will link similar at the bottom of the post. The linens

The centerpiece is an old french sink filled with heirloom pumpkins and leaves. The plates are no longer available. I have owned them for years. There is not enough room for any candles on this table without crowding.

I never purchase name tags, but unfortunately, I did not get my diy place cards finished before the pictures. I have several that I have designed that I use on different years. This year I think this one in traditional thanksgiving shades will go nicely with all three table settings. I made this verrsion on Canva.

You always set a beautiful table with all natural. I use to set table natural for years and then changed to a more glitzy look. Yours brings back good memories. I love different looks and it would be nice to have a house to do the mix. Have A Blessed Thanksgiving.

I love each and every table – the colors are so warm and subtle and welcoming! I, too, love all natural decor however i do have a few very old velvet pumpkins that are fun additions. I love Magnolia leaves, branches and pods and my hundreds of feathers fit in nicely.
Have the most amazing joyful Thanksgiving!
I wish this theme and these colors would last through the end of the year….. Cheers!

I always enjoy reading your posts….and always get some great new ideas for decorating, entertaining and fashion…thank you!
I wonder about the beautiful tablescapes and how you serve the meal. You must set up a buffet. I prefer to serve family style and put all the food on the table for ease in serving in my small dining area. Any thoughts on that?
    Happy Thanksgiving!

      Hi Judith

When we serve big groups like this the only way to do it is serve from the island!

You and Steve are consummate party planners and hosts. I know every one of your guests will have a wonderful day shared together. I’ll have fun being the guest this year at my daughter and SILs. He’s the cook in the family and an excellent one. Then it’s aloha time!
