Five Favorites-Roses H&M & More

Happy Sunday Everyone.  I hope you are having a great weekend. If the sale of our house goes through, we will be moving into a cute two-bedroom rental that we own in Salinas until we figure out what we are doing.  The climate there is a little chillier and a little foggier than it is here.  There is a small courtyard garden in front and a smallish yard in back. It all needs to be redone after years of being rented.  I plan to take you along that journey with me.  Many of you often ask what are some easy-care roses. Three instantly come to mind. I don’t spray any of my roses, so if I plan to have any in Salinas they need to be easy-care. Let’s take a look at my five favorites-roses H&M & More

THREE EASY CARE ROSES YOU MIGHT WANT TO TRY

Iceberg is the only modern rose I have in my garden.  I have a couple of standards that are 30 years old.  It’s a great shrub, standard, and climber.  Here is the standard form. The rose behind is a mystery rose.  Below is nepeta fasseini another workhorse in my garden. I have had very good luck with all the roses I have purchased from David Austin Roses. You can purchase all three there.

Eden Rose.  This rose is from the Romantica family.  It now also comes in white.  It blooms all season and has a nice scent.

The climber Sally Holmes. What I love about this rose is it can tolerate part shade as well.

OUTFIT OF THE WEEK-SPRING NEUTRALS FROM H&M

You all are always asking for a cheap chic outfit, so here you go.  H&M does have some things that are of very good quality.  I like their jeans.  They are inexpensive and wear well.  They have nice quality poplin shirts and isn’t that crochet bag darling.  Someone asked for a neutral hat.  This one is a fun alternative if you don’t want to spend a bunch of money.  The sneaks look to be wide enough to accommodate a bunion. The trench is faux suede and has a great look. I have my eye on the cotton vest.  The glasses I threw in for fun. Love the sweatshirt tunic as well!  All items linked below.

CLASSIC CASUAL HOME

SHERI SILVER

On Tuesday Jennifer and I will be joining our friend Sandra for our monthly fashion edit.  We will be talking about color in your wardrobe.  We all need a little color right now, don’t we?  Things are looking up! On another note, I am working with my ad network on making my ads less intrusive.  If any of you are having issues and wouldn’t mind taking a screenshot and sending it to me, I would really appreciate it. Jennifer wrote a great article here on why we have to rely on ads in order to bring you quality material.

Perfect timing for me with roses information. I had just added climbing rose to my gardening shopping list. I don’t even need to research thanks to you, I’ll be adding all three to my garden this spring if I can find them. Merci.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Pam

You should be able to find all three at a local nursery. Have fun!

I can’t wait until you design your new home and garden! And thanks for the H and M ideas! I have been meaning to check out their chambray button down.
The fish tacos look very healthy ! I make them a lot when I need something quick and easy. I do eat salmon a lot but I have a Mango Ginger Habanero Sauce I slather on top before I grill the salmon. It is a mild sweet- hot flavor. If you don’t like salmon that much, mahi mahi makes a great fish taco.
The best of luck finding your new home!

      Hi Marcia

Do you purchase the mango ginger habanero sauce or do you make it? That sounds right up my alley. I love fish tacos and salmon as long as it is super fresh!

Cindy Fun post today. I am excited to sew what you do with the new place! You have so much talent it will be fun to follow along. I love all the ideas today- especially those walls! Thank you for the rose information. I still want some in my garden and it’s good to know which ones might be better climbers. Hope your weekend was great. xo Kim

Cindy! Where to begin? So much good stuff! Those wood walls are amazing – such a refreshing and modern look – I checked out that post and love them all! I’ve already noted the taco recipe and will be making this week! And I’m a neutrals girl so really appreciate your sifting through the endless H&M site to find these gems! Thank you for letting me crash your Sunday round up this week! xo

    Hi Cindy,
I love Sally Holmes and Eden roses. Icebergs are a staple too, for their ease and continuous blooming. Good luck with the sale of your lovely home and it will be fun to start in a new community.
    xo,

Fingers crossed for the sales and hope you two have many fine adventures ahead. When we remodeled our downstairs, we had poplar beadboard installed. Some walls have sheet mirrors, some walls have mirror in panels. Yes, it is painted black!!!!! Makes a nice background for art and much easier to install over the 4″ beadboard than some the of the other wood walls shown above, but I do like the look and the added texture. Have you gotten your second shot yet?

I don’t know if you are familiar with KarenBritChick, an awesome style person, YouTube and Instagram, but she just put out a spring trends video featuring, and wearing, that exact sweater vest. Lol, you are good. I love your style suggestions! Thanks

      HI GAIL

I THINK THERE ARE BARGAINS TO BE HAD BUT THEY HAVE TO FIT PROPERLY FOR SURE! I LOVE THE EYELET TUNIC I WILL SHOW IT WHEN WE DO OUR SPRING FASHION!

  8. Gail says

Those roses are outstanding and I’d love them in my garden. You always find great things at H & M, I bought the jeans and lace dress you shared awhile back that I loved but had fit issues so had to return. Those salmon tacos make look so delicious too.

  9. Alexis I says

I enjoyed your post on your favorite roses – my one rose is a Sally Holmes that is about 25years old, planted by my grandmother, and it has done well in it’s partial shade location! I look forward to reading about your work on your new home. I do not get much on the way of ads from your blog, for me they are not intrusive at all.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      HI ALEXIS

I DON’T EITHER. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT. I WOULD LOVE TO DO WITHOUT THEM BUT UNFORTUNATELY THEY ARE A BIG SOURCE OF INCOME FOR ME. IT’S ALWAYS A MYSTERY WHY THEY ARE PROBLEMATIC FOR SOME AND NOT OTHERS. A 25 YEAR OLD SALLY THAT IS FABULOUS! I THINK ONE OF MINE IS PROBABLY 20 AND STILL GOING STRONG!

  10. Wren says

Good morning. I hope you can mention colors for gray hair since I realize I need to revise some of my favs (which I’m not happy about). I like the idea of the wood wall as texture but I find the color too muddy for the rest of the decor in the room. I have iceberg roses and they look like they are about ready to bloom again after being pruned. Thanks for addressing the pesky ads!

    • Wren says

P.s. I’m glad you had an ace up your sleeve for where to move, at least temporarily.

      • Cindy Hattersley says

        HI WREN

YES, THANKFULLY. WE HAVE A GREAT RENTER THERE AND HATE TO LOSE HER BUT WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT WE WOULD SELL BOTH HOMES AT ONCE! THANKS FOR SENDING AD INFO. I WILL FORWARD TO MY AD PROVIDOR.

  11. mimi says

Cindy, Where do you suggest buying these roses? Can you link up the vendor? Hope you have a great week!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      HI MIMI
ICEBERG YOU CAN FIND ALMOST ANYWHERE. I ADDED THE LINK TO DAVID AUSTIN’S SITE AS HE HAS ALL THREE AND I HAVE HAD VERY GOOD LUCK WITH ALL OF HIS ROSES.

  12. Janet Arden says

I always love your Sunday posts. How fun to have a new garden and house to “polish” after the toil of moving. Change is good. Thanks for the tips on roses. I would love to give them a try. My luck in the past has been sketchy, although I don’t think I planted them in the best spots. Have a great week!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      HI JANET

THANK YOU SO MUCH! THE ADVANTAGE OF SALLY HOLMES IS SHE CAN TAKE PART SHADE. GIVE HER A TRY! I HAVE ONE PLANTED UNDER A PEPPER TREE WITH FILTERED LIGHT AND SHE IS DOING GREAT!
