Five Faves-brunch, Serenbe Showhouse, sales and more

Hi, all I hope you had a wonderful Christmas in spite of our current situation.  Ours was quiet but nice.  We were able to spend it with our son and daughter in law.  We are hoping to see Summer next week to celebrate. Today I am joining Annie and Mary Ann for our Sunday favorites.  I think you will enjoy this week’s five faves-brunch, Serenbe Showhouse, sales, and more.

WINTER ISSUE OF ATLANTA HOMES AND LIFESTYLES

If you have been reading this blog long you know I am a huge Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles fan.  The winter issue features the Serenbe Showhouse.  If you don’t subscribe you can subscribe here its only $19.95 and well worth it.  Here are some of the beautiful spaces featured. They describe the style as the New Rustic.

Serenbe Showhouse

Texture, Texture and more texture in this living room designed by Lorraine Enright. The vintage door above the fireplace is the icing on the cake.

This little vignette made me go gaga! The modern art mixed with the wine hotte filled with moss, and the creatively placed oyster sticks in that fabulous pot!

This kitchen and dining area by Elizabeth Ferguson is again awash in texture and interest.

Wouldn’t you love to sit down and enjoy a meal in this spot? Love the juxtaposition of the Schumacher floral pillows with the otherwise masculine space.

We celebrated Christmas eve and Christmas day with our son and daughter in law. Lauren prepared an amazing dinner on Christmas eve but it was hard to get good pictures other than the appetizers that I shared on Instagram.  They came to our house for Christmas brunch (recipes to follow) and we had a lovely day culminating with a simple soup dinner.

CHRISTMAS BRUNCH MENU

festive new years brunch on cindy hattersley's blog

Steve and I basically drink wine and no other alcoholic drinks. Our brunch menu had a bit of a bite to it. Our son and daughter in law make great cocktails so I attempted Bobby Flay’s Ginger Beer Margarita and we loved them!   I did add a bit of grated fresh ginger to the simple syrup.

The main dish was this egg casserole from Finding Lovely that I would highly recommend.  We like things with a little zip so I used an entire can of green chiles and added some red pepper flakes.  If you like it milder no need.  This recipe is really light and fluffy almost like a souffle.  It was her mother’s recipe.  We all agreed it was a keeper and we have made a lot of these egg things! Click over to hers it looks much prettier than my version!

For the salad, I made a variation of this salad from a Sweet Mess.  I used both basil and mint because I love that combination. It was a lovely accompaniment to the above.

We love roasted Brussel sprouts.  I have roasted them many ways but we prefer them roasted simply with onions, garlic, and olive oil.  You can find my basic recipe here where I served them as an appetizer.  I just thin the dip/sauce for the main course.

Lauren made Patricia’s (great cook and blog reader’s croissants) and I forgot to get a picture! I will post on another blog post.  Mary Ann reminded me about Ina Garten’s lemon cake that she made here.  The one I have made in the past and I made here has the addition of yourt.  I am sure they are both equally good as all of Ina’s recipes are. These Target cutting boards are cheap and great for serving.

FOOD 52 CREATIVE WAYS TO RECYCLE YOUR GIFT WRAP

My family makes fun of me for recyclcyling gift bags and tags (I always save them).  We usually toss (burn in the fireplace) the wrap and cheap boxes.  I think I will try and save most of the boxes and wrap this year as well. I love Food 52’s creative ways to reuse your giftwrap here

LETS TALK WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT?

So we survived 2020 well almost.  What have we learned, what have we gained, and what have we lost? I am working on my annual survey of what you would enjoy reading more or less of here.  It is always interesting for me to see what the most popular posts were here on the blog.  Please share your thoughts here and on the survey.  It is completely anonymous and oh so helpful for me going forward. This year I will reach out to the readers I have lost and gained in order to attempt to make this a place where women over 50 who love fashion & beauty, their homes and gardens, entertaining, travel, and anything else of interest, can come here to interact and enjoy.

Now let’s pop over and visit Mary Ann and Annie for their favorites.  I always love their creative picks! Thanks for reading Five Faves-brunch, Serenbe Showhouse, sales and more

Cindy Looks like you had a lovely Christmas. Your food always looks delicious and beautiful! I have saved the same photos from that show house. I especially loved her room with the banquette! I have to try that margarita too. Always love all your ideas. Happy New Year! xo

    Happy New Year, Cindy!!!
Like many of your previous writers, I, too, look forward to your weekly posts. I love everything about your blog! It’s beautifully done and visually gorgeous to read!
I do have one suggestion, I would love to see a ‘blog reference list’.
From time to time you refer to a source where we can go to purchase items or enjoy more of whatever subject your writing about. So when I remember that beautiful vase or crockery I’d love to gift, or recipe to share, I need to remember which blog I read to find the reference. Well, some days are better than others when it comes to remembering. haha! So having a resource list would truly be really helpful. Just a thought.
Wishing your 2021 a continued success!

I was interested in the Naomi Ballet Flats. The link went to Sundance and they don’t have shoes by that name. Are they from Eileen Fisher? Great post! Thanks so much

I like your blog the way it is. I am less fashion centric at 71, but still enjoy others who are. I’d love to hear more about the wines you and Steve enjoy. We still aren’t going to stores!!! We joined 3 wine clubs (priorities)! You might want to google putting Christmas wrap in fireplace. Years ago before we went gas fireplace, the fireplace cleaners warned us about burning wrapping paper. No bueno for inside air or inside of fireplace. Sorry, Debbie Downer reporting from Kansas! Hope your Christmas comes twice in one year works out.

I always saved the good boxes but they are so cheaply made now. I am on a mission to save them this year!! Blogger trip sounds fabulous!!

  7. Cheryl P says

I have made the egg dish for many years, but we called it “Diane’s Eggs” for some reason…it was always my mom’s favorite dish when I would make a Mother’s Day brunch. Leftovers are great for dinner as well! If it’s worth anything, I think your blog is perfect the way it is…a little bit of everything. Anyway, wishing you and your family a healthy and happy New Year’s! May 2021 be a great year for us all!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cheryl

That is so funny. It remnded me of something I grew up on as well, but I had never made. It is the beauty of the simplicity that makes it so tasty! Happy New Year to you too! Thanks for always being so supportive.

I appreciate fashion considerations for women over 50. Don’ want to look frumpy, yet dressing like a 20 year old is ridiculous. Also, keeping up with make up is helpful as we age. These things are helpful to me even if i’m not going anywhere ! Ha

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mala
At least we know there is a light at the end of the tunnel! So we need to step up our game!

  10. Cindy adams says

Always interested in design books and magazines that others enjoy, you and I have similar taste so your recommendations are important to me.
Look forward to every email from you

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cathy
I didn’t think they were made anymore. They are by Vietri. I linked to them below the picture. They come in white as well. I have had them bor probably 15 years!
