When I was researching my five favorites on Sunday I noticed that one of my favorite sheleter magazines (Milieu) was featuring a designer I much admire, Betsy Brown in their 10th Anniversary Issue. I noted that Haris Kenjar was the photographer of Betsy’s feature. I couldn’t resist taking a closer look at his work on Instagram and was completely gobsmacked. Let’s chat about how to Fall in Love with Haris Kenjar’s Captivating Photography.
His photographs tell a compelling story of each room he photographs with a melancholy nod.
He recently collaborated with the wonderful Heidi Callier on her latest book The Memories of Home available now on Amazon here. I am anxiously awaiting mine. In the forward Haris shares what inspires and shepherds him on his photographic journey. “I am from Bosnia. When the war started my dad stayed behind and fought, and my mother and I left our home. We ended up in Jordan in the refugee system. Home for me was a big open room shared by two families.” “From the time I was ten years old my escape was creativity” in the form of ” books, photos, and magazines”. “I ended up in this field because I seek the comfort of home through imagining in and creating spaces. “To this day I try to give that feeling to others”.
Haris Kenjar often photographs the beautiful interiors of Sean Anderson. Sean Anderson with the assistance of Haris invites us to want to know more about the owner of this vignette.
I love how Haris captured just the right amount of light to illuminate the huge hydrangea bouquet, while not disturbing the moodiness of the room’s decor.
His collaborations with the brilliant Meghan Eisenberg are stunning.

Hi Cindy,
I like reading about an artists background. Jordan being his home in a refugee system and living in one big room with two families.
Through all of this he found his salvation perhaps through his photographs.
I always find reflections in photography great to look at and an element of surprise. Haris knows how to set the mood.
Thank you for sharing his talent.

What do you guys think about that patterned sofa???

Thank you for helping me look at these photographs with a more discerning eye. A photo can be just a photo unless you really look at how the “artist” is capturing the scene.

Thank you for following up on Haris Kenjar. If not for you, I doubt he would have crossed my radar. There is something beyond moody about his photos…solitude and maybe sorrow. I love that he focuses on natural light and nature.

Cindy — Thank you for the introduction to Haris Kenjar. What a talented eye he has! I like the unstyled look many of his photos have, despite the fact that you know he has carefully arranged each detail. What a find!
