Fall Décor and Simple Fall Dinner

Fall was one of my favorite times of year growing up in the midwest. We don’t really have a fall here in Northern California but we like to pretend. Fall Decor on my kitchen counter consists of a simple combination of pumpkins and gourds from The Farm in Salinas. Let’s take a look at Fall Decor and Simple Fall Dinner.

I decided to keep my coffee table simple mainly because the older I get the lazier I am.

I have coveted these napkins from Pottery Barn for a while. They are no longer available online but Amazon has these similar ones available. I think they could be used for Halloween, Thanksgiving, add a little red for Xmas…the possibilities are endless.

My son and daughter-in-law both celebrated their 35th birthdays this week so we had them over for a simple Sunday dinner. How did they get so old, or better yet how did I get so old?

I really love using the blue/green and white pumpkins in my dining room where it is mostly neutral with some blue.

Here is what we served.  Naturally, once again failed to take pictures of the food as I was too busy visiting and drinking wine.

I adore anything with mushrooms.  I substituted 3 T of truffle oil for part of the olive oil and added some truffle salt.

I am a terrible baker. I baked this Apple Cake with Maple Buttercream Frosting and I would definitely try it again.  Mine was a tad dry so don’t bake it quite as long as suggested.

I made this wreath for the lakehouse door.  People actually use the front door there.  I tried to use almost everything faux because the deer eat anything that isn’t.

There is nothing like a good dinner party to get one in the spirit to decorate. Like you, I had friends for dinner last night and it was just the inspiration I needed to get the house decorated for Fall. I simply love absolutely everything about your table. Exquisite!

Thanks for stopping by Cindy, in regards to the Osage Oranges: Hi Cindy — I have had them last for 6 – 8 weeks in cooler rooms. I think they are more common in the middle states and also on the east coast. I've seen them at farmer's markets in upstate New York and there is a huge tree in Central Park. I know they are also common in rural Britain. Because of the thorns on the branches they are pruned to create dense hedges that serve as fences in rural areas (hence the other common name, hedge apples). Emily

Hi Cindy, about getting old. When I was working on a development here in So Calif with 3 model homes shear exhaustion was taking over and I was a bit younger then, my daughter was 10 at the time and she looked up at me saying "I was still NEW" so I just keep reminding myself I am still new 12 years later 🙂

As for your son the handsome 35 year old and his beautiful wife Happy birthday to both of them, and what a wonderful mom you are to put on such a lovely dinner, love your settings and the Anthropologie dinnerware is up my alley, white, and lots of rough Luxe! 🙂
I also took notice of your silver flatware loving the way it looks and well as a rustic tone to it.

Everything here is simply beautiful and not over done with too much fall, just enough to make for a beautiful statement.
I have family in the salinas, Gilroy, Morgan hill area…. I too spent many years growing up in my teens to young adulthood in the Monterey Bay Area and know it well. Now I have been in Southern Calif. over 25 years and miss so many aspects of what the Bay Area offers and miss its unique beauty and culture.

See you soon and all the amazing beauty you offer us.

    Xx

Dore your comments are always so well thought out and kind. I bought the anthro dishes a few years ago as a gift to me! The flatware can be purchased at Horchow etc. It is Arte Italica. Both of my "children" have the same flatware so we can borrow if needed! Happy Fall!

    Cindy,
I love the table, napkins and centerpiece. The bits of moss among the pumpkins and twigs was inspired. I also love the front door wreath for the same reason, so natural and beautiful. Ha, yeah, I don't know how I have a 32 year old son and a 36 year old son. I'm a young (thinking) woman, how can this have happened?! 🙂
    xo,
    Karen

Hi Cindy! Everything looks simply beautiful, the tablescape, food…love those dishes! Yes, where did the time go? My boys are hitting their late thirties…young, old, just words, but I think about it more than I care to! We are celebrating our Thanksgiving this weekend here in Canada….I wish you a glorious fall, even if it's only in your mind and heart! Xoxo

I laughed out loud at your "pretending" to have fall! Too funny! Your table looks fabulous. 🙂 You did a great job with all the pumpkins- especially your centerpiece. And your menu made me hungry – even at 8:00 a.m. Yes, I am decorating for fall – with quite a bright color scheme this year.I just can't make myself bring home the beautiful pale ones when those happy orange ones keep calling, "Choose me. Choose me!"

    • Cindy says

I love the orange ones too Kelly! That's why I have orange in the kitchen and neutral in the dining room! Thanks for the kudos. Post pics of your decor!!

Your gords and all of the decor are beautifully subtle and seasonal, very nicely done. Guess what? I bought the same napkins! Saw them at PB on sale (not quite 50% though :() But I grabbed up several bundles because I could imagine them for a million different placesettings, and they will naturally camouflage stains! Meow!
