Fall Closet Heroes for Creative Women Over 60
For this month’s Signature Style, Kim suggested we spill the beans on our tried-and-true wardrobe favorites that we reach for on repeat. Ironically, one of my long time readers Arlene requested the same thing over the weekend. Hopefully this post will be a win. I would describe my personal style as timeless and relaxed with an artistic bent. Let’s take a look at my fall closet heroes for creative women over 60.
Fall Closet Heroes for Creative Women Over 60
I consider myself a creative woman over 60, so let’s see where we can go with this!! The pieces I reach for most (the true heroes of my closet) might look a little different than the usual suspects for most because I love a collected look in my wardrobe and my home.
Jeans
A great pair of jeans tops my list. While I reach for denim rarely in summer, once fall rolls around, jeans quickly become my uniform of choice.

We live a very casual life style here and denim is appropriate dressed up or down at most events. My favorites include: Left to right: Love the Ayr the Getup (for that old school 501 look). Jacket is from Ralph Lauren here.
Frame the Modernist, sweater is from Ann Mashburn here.
Kut from the Kloth Rachel (a long time fave for a slimmer look), sweater coat is from Lyssee here.
ThePaige Anessa wide leg, linen shirt is from J Crew here.
My new favorite wide legs, Frame Le Slim Palazzo , shirt is from Alex Mill here.
Another long time fave from J Jill their Boyfriend (another great summer option or with loafers in fall). Sweater is from Quince here. Scarf very old and no longer available.
The Frank and Eileen Galway (love this one in both white and blue particularly in the Summer for it’s shorter length). Sweater is from COS not currently available in this color but other colors available. This is a really nice cashmere sweater but pricey!!

A Great Blazer
A long time favorite of mine is the Slade blazer from Rag and Bone.

I own this blazer in olive green wool and the camel ponte. The ponte is no longer available but there are several on eBay here. They do run small so size up. I really love this years version with the silver buttons. J crew’s Madeline blazer is very similar, and a better price point. The leopard crossbody is old from Rag and Bone. There are a few on Poshmark here.
I am also loving this knit blazer from Garnet Hill. It has a bit of a looser fit, and can transcend the seasons.

It comes in multiple colors. I would wear it all buttoned up with vintage pins as buttons or as I have above. I am wearing an 8.
Utility Jacket/Vest
I’ve always been a big fan of casual utility jackets. I find them so versatile. The popular chore or work coats (so popular now) aren’t as flattering on me. For my shape, I prefer a jacket that nips in at the waist and flares out a bit. A utility vest can be worn year round. Ebay, Poshmark, Velstaire Collective, Thred Up, and the Real Real are great places to find utility jackets from years past.

The utility vest is several years old from Banana Republic (I am constantly asked about where to purchase this). The good news is they brought it back this year. The bad news is it sold out. Amazon has a reasonable option here, and LL Bean has a fabulous one here. I purchased the green Rag and Bone utility jacket on eBay. You can find several of the Rag and Bone Lorenz jackets on eBay here, and on Poshmark here.
An Interesting Handbag
I love the convenience of a small crossbody bag for everyday. I do want it to be big enough to hold my small wallet, sunglasses, and lipstick! I prefer a bigger tote for travel (big enough for my laptop & cords), preferably with a crossbody strap for convenience as well.

A fun statement bag for a pop of color (this one is from Artemis here), a great leather tote from Quince here (big enough to carry my laptop if necessary, and a small (handsfree) crossbody that is big enough to hold sunglasses, wallet, and a lipstick. I purchased this Tory Burch one on sale recently but have yet to photograph it!! You can find all of the fall bags that are on my radar here.
A Great Hat

I really like Gigi Pip’s felt hats. One of my favorites is the Wren. It has a chin strap, the crown is not too high (so many of them are now), and it comes in several colors. I own it in ivory and brown. I might just grab another color this year!! The dress is from Ann Taylor here, and the wonderful jacket is from Paige here.
I also really love the Rue from Gigi Pip. You can also find all of my favorite Fall belts and hats here. I am really loving thid black gaucho hat. The poncho is several years old from Madewell. I found one on eBay here.
CP Shades Lily Maxi
This has become a signature piece for me. It is no longer available on their website and sadly they are closing their doors at the end of the year. If you love this skirt and can find them snap them up!

You can contact them here to see if they have any available. There are many on eBay here, and on Poshmark here.
The denim trench is from Rollas here.
You can Never Have too Many Scarves
I collect scarves. I admit to being a scarfaholic. Many of mine come from online resale outlets and resale boutiques, and museum stores. I do have a section dedicated to scarves here on ShopMy.
Stylish Comfortable Boots
I just ordered a pair of cowboy boots from Ariat. They carry wide widths ( I am hoping they work) I am a longtime fan of the Gentle Souls line. They are comfortable, and plenty stylish enough for me. You can find all of my favorite boots and shoes here.
As we ease into fall, I hope my fall closet heroes for creative women Over 60 inspire you to get creative with what’s already hanging in your closet and perhaps add a few thoughtful pieces that make you feel confident and comfortable. Celebrate your individuality, by expressing your creativity, and own your own style. Do you have any closet heroes in your wardrobe? I would love to hear what they are.
Here’s to a season of owning our own style! Now let’s pop over and visit Kim for her closet heroes.
Northern California Style

Such an informative post, as usual! Can you share any details about the amazing scarf you are wearing with your army green utility jacket? Thank you!
Hi Jerilyne
That scarf is from a company called Sophie Store in New Zealand. That scarf is no longer available. I tried to find a good substitute and could not. Many of my readers have purchased that scarf. So many that the Sophie ladies sent me a very nice gift! I have had it for a couple years. I am so sorry they no longer carry it.
Thanks for the info and getting back to me! It is such a cool one!
Of course!!
Great post! Loved shopping in your closet! I have my OG LLBean barn jacket from college. I will try to restyle it and where it this fall!
Hi Gray
Those darn barn jackets are so popular but not very flattering on my physique. Kim and I have a love hate relationship with them!!
Hi Cindy,
Thanks for your wonderful post you have such incredible style l love it all!
I wish l could feel better about barrel jeans and wide leg but for me being so petite l think l will stick to my straight jeans. You look amazing in red ❤️Happy weekend!
Hi Francesca
I totally understand. I have yet to purchase a pair of barrel jeans. I need to try them!
Love your wardrobe favorites Cindy! You always look chic and fashionable.
I wear jeans begrudgingly. It is hard to find a cut that fits. Not to mention here in the south Winter is the only time we wear jeans, otherwise it is too hot.
Have a great weekend.
Hi Eliz
You are a dress girl, aren’t you? I always love the dresses you select on your blog!!
I live in jeans and can wear them just about year round.I live just south of you nearer to the coast by Pismo, so jeans and casual style is my jam. This was a great post and your choices were great!
Just have to say, you look amazing in red, you need to add more of that color to your wardrobe!!
Hi Mary Ann
I do love a good red!! Thank you!
Cindy, what size are you wearing in the Lorenz jacket? I enjoy your blog very much.
Hi Sharon
It is a small I am sorry I forgot to say, and it is plenty roomy!
Dear Cindy! I can’t wait for the heat to subside in Arizona so I can pull out my jeans! You look fantastic in all of your outfits, I love the oversized white shirt with the vest! Kut from the Kluth is a fabulous brand, Evereve carries all their styles. As always – I’m inspired to exercise and eat healthy so I look good in jeans! 🤣 Anna in AZ! 🌞
Hi Anna
We have had a couple of days where we could wear jeans but not many!!
You make me want to shop Cindy. But it’s just been too hot!!! Still I cleaned out my closet to prepare for a switch over. I even sent a bag to Thred Up. And I appreciate your post sixty creative choices. Brava!! Thank you for this fabulous, timely post.
Hi Leslie
I bet it has been cooking in Sac! Thank you so much!!
Your closet heroes are wonderful. It’s too hot here still for jeans but very soon they will be my daily uniform. I too use scarves to jazz things up. Your button did not work for me. However I also like to look for them when traveling such a great souvenir and easy to pack!
Hi Cristi
It is too hot here too but I know fall has arrived in other places! What button are you speaking of? The scarves? I will check it!
Hi Again Cristi

Cindy, I adore your closet heroes. I think the Slade jacket looks fantastic on you. I wish I had gotten that light color too. I wear my black wool one tons. I have to go check out some of these jeans!! I am with you, they are my one main. Love the AYR. They are such a great brand. That green utility jacket is the best! I’d love to see more of your closet. This was so fun. xo
