Do you Love Understated Details and Quiet Elegance

Do you love understated details and quiet elegance? Today’s post is all about thoughtful details, timeless quality, and effortless sophistication with no need to shout about it.

A Writer’s Notting Hill Cottage

I adore this charming Notting Hill cottage in House and Garden UK. The beautiful garden is by the talented Butter Wakefield, photographed by Christopher Horwood. Need I say more? I featured Butter Wakefield’s beautiful London house in a former Sunday favorites post here.

Love the mixture of textures in this lovely space.

Great mix of textures here as well. Love the mix of the old wood, stone floors and interesting plaster.

The icing on the cake here is the woven pendant.

Life at Bella Terra

My friend Mary ( I know we have never met but I feel like I know her) lives in a beautiful historic home in Phoenix. She is multi-talented and shares her many talents on her blog Life at Bella Terra. In her last post she shared so many tempting recipes, you might want to take a look.

Outfit of the Week

As I’ve been poring over the new fall collections, I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly, as I always do—but that’s just my humble opinion, of course. My “ugly” is another person’s favorite! I’ll share my thoughts on the latest trends next Thursday. I don’t think we need to worry about trends at our age; it’s more important to focus on what we love and what truly suits us.

This leopard dress from Chico’s is the prettiest one I have seen this season (and it comes in extended sizing), this moto jacket from Quince gets great reviews and I love the color, I own the gentle souls booties, and the All Saints bag and I love them both.

Weekend Outfit of the Week

This beautiful cotton cable sweater is from Lands End, the Frame jeans are from Nordstrom Rack (I own and love this style),the comfy sneakers (I own two pairs of these) are from Dolce Vita, I have been coveting this Parker Thatch crossbody, the strap is from Etsy (much cheaper), and I need the NY cap!

Easy Healthy Whipped Lemon Feta Dip

This is a super easy dip to make in a pinch and the leftovers are delicious on avocado toast or sandwiches.

Sales of Note

Nordstrom Rack Frame Flash Sale Event

Including my favorite Le Palazzo Jeans, and this great wool and cashmere sweater, this vince camuto leopard scarf is a great buy as well.

I love this sweater for Steve, and I am ordering this all cotton sweater for myself

Thank you for reading “Do you Love Understated Details and Quiet Elegance”. I love color, but I also love timeless style, muted natural tones & textures in my home and wardrobe as well. How do you feel about “quiet luxury”?

Let’s pop over and visit Mary Ann and Annie to see what they are up to today! Annie is in France and Mary Ann is heading to Europe this week so they will have lots of fun to report.

  1. Can’t wear the warm dull colors out this fall. I did find a pale blue sweater and will wear with my dark wash jeans. I also found two pair of Bridgette ponte pants on sale in a light grey taupe and dark blue at Chicos. So far that is all I could find that fit and that I like. They are so flattering and comfortable.

  2. Cindy, I love that writer’s cottage. The kitchen has an open feel, with no upper cabinets and bare windows. So pretty! Love your outfits of the week, as always!

  3. Cindy—
Wowsa—I could move right into that featured home. I LOVE it. The epitome of quiet elegance for sure. And I have some company coming in Oct—may try that feta dip!

  4. Am loving how leopard print is popular this season, although I never stopped wearing it. Have seen it paired with red, but also navy and emerald green. I like to think of it as a neutral 🙂

  5. Hi Cindy,
Gorgeous post thank you! The suede jacket is wonderful such a beautiful color, I also love Sezane Will suede jacket,s the camel is amazing and I love the green! Happy weekend!

  6. As a light summer brown is very tough. But suede is in and I love it so bought some fantastic cognac suede “jeans” and will wear light denim fitted shirt, which will match my coloring much better…also, found a great blue suede fringe jacket which I’m loving, would love to see more Western trend items if you run across any!

  7. I couldn’t agree more with the comments on fall colors. Ugh! I’m looking everywhere for some brighter colors, but they don’t seem to exist. We don’t need to dress like the landscape – why not have colors that bring us out of the doldrums! Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. Your blog is my favorite and I always look forward to reading it. That feta dip looks scrumptious!

    1. Hi CK

I understand! Vent anytime!! We are doing fall fashion next week and I will be sharing more color!!

  8. No one, absolutely no one, does a kitchen better than the Brits! Thanks for showing us the Notting Hill kitchen. I agree with the comment about this season’s Fall colors. Incredibly dreary and uninspiring. I’m concentrating on shopping my closet, and only buying accessories.

    1. Susan

You are absolutely right! Everytime I am smitten with a kitchen, it is from Britain!

  9. I would love to see some fall fashion outfits that are not in brown/beige range. For those of us who can’t wear warm colors, this has, so far, been a fall fashion desert.

    1. Yes!!! It took me decades to get this!! Fall fashion needs to be fall weight clothing in colors of your own palette. Many people rush to buy/wear earth tone “fall” colors and they don’t look great. And this year has had the worst color choices I’ve seen in many years. I no longer waste my money on it.

      1. Hi Leslie

We should absolutely wear what we love and feel good in! Brown is enjoying a moment this year as well as another color that I absolutely abhor (on me anyway) the burgundy and oxblood shades that are also so popular. I love olive green so I am happy to see that!

      2. I am so grateful for the reminder of Mary at Bella Terra! I used to subscribe years ago but “lost track” over time. Now that I am living in the Phoenix area, I need all the help I can get. Thank you, Cindy!

    2. Hi Nancy

I totally understand. Brown is crazy popular this year and it is not very becoming on me either unless I accessorize with it away from my face!

  10. Thanks for the intro to Bella Terra! I popped over there…that peach tart!
Love that Quince moto jacket. I wish you could dress me every day.
